Accusations of dog abuse at crufts are nothing new and this year they seem to have almost leaned in and said ‘yeah we know and we just don’t care’
Respected British trainers like Victoria Stilwell are starting to speak out against crufts and asking us all to hold them to a higher standard.
This years best in show was a Clumber Spaniel named Bruin, owned and trained by Lee Cox and both of these individuals have their problems
Lee Cox was convicted of dog abuse in 2001 after letting an old stud dog live in terrible conditions.
Think about that for a second. He used the dog up then discarded it with no care for its wellbeing.
This is the person crufts have rewarded with national media attention.
Then there is his dog where we can see he has learnt nothing from his past.
Take a look at Bruin’s eyes as they appear to be very exaggerated and you can see the skin drooping away at the bottom. This breed are notorious for health problems.
Bruin is the latest in a long line of examples of crufts winning dogs that appear to have genetic deformities though. These are caused by pure bloodline breeding practices crufts has endorsed for years. Crufts holds itself up as the worlds most famous dog show and should therefore be the biggest advocates for healthy dogs. But their obsession with purebreeds and questionable backstage conditions that the dogs are kept in, show that more change is desperately needed for the sake of the dogs.
