Teach them while they are young! 🙌 🐶
How often have I heard this over the years? "He is only a puppy! He is too young for training. I will wait until he is older."
Most unwanted behavioural issues start developing in a young puppy because the correct consistent rules and boundaries were not set from day one. It's so much easier and a lot less stressful for both the puppy's owner, and future dog their puppy will become, to start training what is acceptable behaviour and what isn't during the first few months of bringing the pup into its new home.
When a person states that their puppy is too young, in reality, it really means all they want to do is give their cute little puppy lots of love and cuddles. Then 6 months down the track they find the pup is no longer that cute little puppy they brought home. But a terror.
It's usually around 6 to 18 months of age when most dogs end up being abandoned, and for no other reason than the cute little puppy they brought home is no longer that cute little puppy. Now he or she is an overly anxious, aggressive, overly dependant, destructive terror, that the owner can no longer love or control any more. Or they desperately seek out the services of a professional to guide and assist them with months of what can be stressful (for both owner and dog) behaviour modification training, to reprogram their dogs behaviour and psychological state, which should never have been required in the first place, if only a few simple rules were consistently followed from day one.
Start setting the rules and boundaries in your puppy that you expect your older dog to abide by, while it is still virtually a blank slate.
Don't just live in the moment with your new puppy, dishing out nothing but cuteness, love and cuddles, and not plan for the future dog it will become. I can assure you, if you don't, then in most cases, you will regret not having put in the time and effort teaching your puppy. And therefore, its the future dog your puppy will become, that will end up suffering the most, due to the lack of early training that you should have put into your puppy from day one.
