URGENT APPEAL: UPDATE
Thank you so much for the response to our recent post about our financial situation. So far, we’ve raised £792 in monthly donations, which is an incredible start and we are so grateful to you all. However we still have a long way to go.
To secure the long-term care our residents deserve, we need to reach our goal of raising an additional £5,000 a month in recurring donations. We can only do this with your help, our wonderful supporters 💚
If you’re able to help, please set up a monthly donation. This can be done through the link in our bio.
Alternatively, donate via BACS:
Account name: Surge Sanctuary CIC
Sort Code: 55-61-17
Account number: 68689519
We really appreciate all of our current monthly donators; you all make such a huge difference to the animals’ lives here and, without you, we wouldn’t be able to care for them. But if there is any room for you to increase your support, it would help us hugely during this time 🐖🐄🐑🦃
Thank you so much 💚🌱
URGENT: we need your help!
Unfortunately due to increasing costs and a decrease in our monthly donations, we’re now facing a shortfall each month which threatens the ongoing running of the sanctuary. To be able to continue caring for the animals, we need help from you, our amazing supporters 💚
We need to raise an extra £5000 per month. This will ensure we can pay for feed, bedding, ongoing maintenance and veterinary costs.
The sanctuary is entirely run by volunteers who do not take a wage, so all of your money goes towards the animals’ care.
If you’re able to help, please set up a monthly donation. We can’t put into words how much we appreciate all of our current monthly donators, you all make such a huge difference to the animals’ lives here. But if there is any room for you to increase your support, that would help us hugely during this time 🐖🐄🐑🦃

The sheep have moved to the courtyard for winter! Keep watching to the end to see some of the flock meeting our newest residents, Ralph and Delilah 🥹
There are a few reasons we bring the sheep in each year:
🐑 It’s better for them to have the concrete flooring of the courtyard to stand on, as they are very prone to hoof problems when the ground is wetter. Hard standing means we are more able to manage this and can keep a closer eye on them so can spot any potential health issues quickly.
🐑 The courtyard has shelter for the sheep to go to when the weather is bad. It’s important for them to have the option to go in if they want to.
🐑 It allows the top fields to rest in the wetter months. This means the grass will be thick and lush for them when they go back next year! It will be worth the wait for them.
🐑 The front field still has good grass for them, so they’re enjoying that now before winter truly hits us and then they will need lots of hay.
Winter at the sanctuary is the most expensive time with additional hay and straw and feed bills doubling. Monthly donations help us out so much so if you are able to donate, please go to the link in our bio! Thank you ❤️
The sheep coming down means more cleaning for us. But we do love getting to spend more time with our woolly friends and always find time to stop for a cuddle 🤗 #sanctuary #rescueanimals #sheep
Joy and Jasmine get very impatient for cuddles! They are the friendliest girls - being born here at the sanctuary means they are so used to people and feel safe with us. As you can see, they make sure to tell us when they want more fuss and, of course, we oblige! 💚
Welcome back to Throwback Thursday!
Today we’ve lined up a video of our lovely broiler chicken Ben and his friends as babies from 2021! Ben and his friends came to live at Surge when they were just a few weeks old, but sadly due to generations of selective breeding by humans they have all suffered from multiple health issues during their short lives. Broiler chickens are bred to grow as fast and big as possible, so they can be slaughtered at just 6 weeks old. By this point many can’t even stand due to the weight of their gigantic bodies. Luckily for Ben and his friends, they were rescued from this fate and are able to enjoy their sadly shortened lives in peace. If you would like to contribute to Ben’s ongoing care and that of all our lovely residents please click the link in our bio to donate - we are so grateful 🐔💕
This September, we need your help to win a donation in the My Favourite Voucher Codes charity poll!
https://www.myfavouritevouchercodes.co.uk
Every month, money saving website My Favourite Voucher Codes hosts a charity poll where 4 charities compete to win a donation of 20% of the site’s profits. Throughout the month, the public can vote for free for the charity they want to see win - and the one with the most votes at the end of the month wins the donation.
Surge Sanctuary are taking part in the poll this September and we need as many votes as possible to secure the donation. If you have a few seconds to spare, please vote for Surge this September and help us win a much needed donation.
Everyone gets one vote and the poll will run from 1st September 2024 to midnight on 30th September 2024.
My Favourite Voucher Codes are a small company who provide free voucher codes to online shoppers in the UK. Their team finds the best deals, offers and discount codes for a variety of online retailers, and gives visitors to the site the opportunity to save money on everything from homewares to holidays. What makes them stand out however, is that every voucher you use also helps raise money for charity whilst helping you save money on your shop, as they donate 20% of their profits to charity every month.
If we win this donation, it will help us with the cost of essential feed, bedding, veterinary and everyday care for the animals at the Surge sanctuary.
Thank you for your support!

The winner of spot the bull has been contacted!!
We played a game @vegancampout called ‘Spot the Bull’ where the aim of the game was to pin on a board of one of the sanctuary fields, where you think Paul is hiding. He was digitally added so he could be anywhere. The top prize for finding him was a weekend trip to relax at the lovely @vegan_glamping 🥰🏕️
Huge thank you to everyone at camp out that entered and played along. It helped us rise some vital funds for the sanctuary. All the winners of the rest of the incredible prizes have also been contacted, so if you played, check your messages! Also, thank you to @vegan_glamping and @vegancampout for providing us this opportunity 🤍
The cows have finally come out of the cowshed and look how happy they are! 🥰
We had been hoping to let them out sooner, but the ongoing wet spring we’ve been having meant the date kept being pushed back.
The cows spend the winter months inside to protect the fields during the wetter weather. If they didn’t, the fields would be damaged and then wouldn’t grow back as the healthy fresh grass the cows love. During this time, they are fed hay which they really enjoy! However, because it has been a particularly wet winter and they’ve been in for longer, this has meant our costs have been higher as we’ve needed to use a lot more straw and hay than the previous years.
This year should be the year the cows finally get their barn, thanks to the amazing donations we have had! We’re hoping to get it sorted this summer so by next winter, the cows will have more space in their permanent winter home. It will be much more practical for us and cosier for them. Until then, the cows are enjoying their lovely long grass 😋
If you’d like to donate to help us cover some of the added costs we’ve had this winter and towards their barn, please tap the link in our bio!
They all think, feel, play, cry, and feel fear & love!
All the rescued animals at Surge Sanctuary are given equal love and care; Dogs, cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, cats, sheep, goats and rabbits… they all deserve a happy life free from harm 💚
Why love some and eat others?
Best buds, Luke and Rambo! ✨
These two guys arrived at the sanctuary in May 2021 together from a loving home. They were very cheeky uncastrated rams, who after castration have turned into the biggest cuddle bugs!
During the 3 years they’ve lived with us, they have found a firm place within the flock of sheep here at the sanctuary. Their bond to each other has never weakened though; these boys are family and they never wander far from each other!
It’s so lovely to see the deep individual friendships that exist between the residents, and know that they will never be separated 💚
Send to your friends and family who need to choose kindness this year 💚
