There are two things that I discovered people really love, dogs and craft beer. And while some dogs really love to lap up a clean German Pils or a crisp American Wheat, hops are harmful to the health of our four-legged friends. So I asked myself, "how can I share my love for craft beer with Fish, Brewpup Bites' first official taste tester, and the dogs of my friends?" The answer was dog treats tha
t are made from brewer's spent grain, and three other simple ingredients. When brewing beer, the first step in the process is boiling water and adding grains and malts to create the wort needed to make beer. Typically that spent grain, which accounts for roughly 85% of brewing waste, is dumped into a dumpster, hauled off to community gardens, or ends up in the hands of local farmers used feed their livestock. We haul away a portion of brewer's spent grain from a local, award-winning brewery that is located in the Great Lakes Bay Region of Michigan. Once we have the brewer's spent grain, we simply add in whole wheat flour, eggs, and the complimenting flavor ingredient - which may be natural peanut butter, blueberries, or pumpkin puree. So for those of us with thumbs, we don't have an issue finding beers we can enjoy. We are able to place our trust in our favorite craft breweries with the job of concocting delicious libations for us to enjoy. And now, it's your turn to put your trust in Brewpup Bites to provide that same promise of crafting dog treats that your partner-in-crime will find just as great, if not better!
