We’ve received word that the Leadon Vale Bassets are disbanding!

This is welcome news to the hares of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

In recent years, this hunt has faced increasing sab attention from Severn Vale Hunt Saboteurs, Herefordshire Hunt Sabs and others.

☀️☀️☀️ Please take ultra care with your pets in this warmer weather, especially older dogs, brachycephalic (flat faced) & young 🐶s. Don’t forget the small furries too - make sure their cages & runs have loads of shade and water 💧 bowls as well as bottles for your 🐇 & guinea pigs.

Never rub a dog's nose in urine or f***s, or punish a dog for an “accident.” This will teach your dog to fear you, and he may hide when he has to “go.” It is not instinctive for dogs to relieve themselves outside; it is only natural for them to not go where they sleep. ... It is up to you to train your dog. ❤️

Exercise!

Border Collie puppies have some of the highest energy levels of any breed. They need significant amounts of physical & mental exercise.

First of all;

⚠️Do not take your puppy out in public before they’ve received all of their vaccinations. They should not interact with other dogs before they’re fully vaccinated.⚠️

Your Border Collie puppy responds well to training, so they can easily learn new games to play with you. Whether you exercise them indoors or outdoors, make sure your puppy gets the opportunity to play daily, although you might think that exercise is of upmost importance it is actually mental stimulation that does this breed more good, some good ideas for mental stimulation include; (working, puzzle games, fetch, scent work, use of a flirt pole, hide & seek, obedience, training sessions.)

- Many dog owners are tempted to push their puppy too far too fast. Having a new puppy is fun and exciting, so you'll want to spend lots of time walking it and playing games. However, your puppy isn't ready for a lot of exercise, and giving it too much could harm its joints in the long run. This could eventually cause arthritis. Fortunately, you can avoid this issue by setting limits for your puppy.
Exercise for a shorter amount of time and engage their brain more! 🐶

- Limit what activities your puppy engages in to light exercise. Focus more on training and bonding with your pup instead. 💞

- It's easy to over-exercise a puppy, which can harm the dog over time. To determine how often you should exercise your puppy, multiply the number of months old your puppy is by 5 minutes. This is called the "5 minute rule." Keep your puppy's exercise session under this time limit. For example, a 4-month-old puppy should not exercise more than 20 minutes. 🎾

- Avoid activities that stress your dog's joints. Your puppy should not be jumping off walls or doing agility training, as this can damage your pup's joints. Dogs should not participate in agility training until they are at least 12-months-old. 🐶

-Choose an easier exercise like taking a walk, playing fetch, or jogging with your puppy.

Let’s talk puppies! 🐶🖤

🖤 Border collie puppies have fragile bones and ligaments while they grow into a young adult.

🖤 While you may think that they need more exercise when they are a few months old, it’s the opposite until they are over a year old. It is best not to over-exercise them up until this point because it can lead to problems down the line as an adult.

🖤 For the first 8 months of your border collie’s life, you should keep the exercise to a minimum. Daily walks are not needed.

🖤 Take the first 8 months to socialize your pup, take them to obedience training, and spend time with them at home. You can even play fetch or throw a ball for them in short distances to enhance their herding instinct.

Out here in the barren wastelands of the kitchen, food is scarcer than ever. Benji ( A rare Dutch sheep wolf) is determined and extremely patient. He spends hours observing and stalking this young hippopotamus, his potential prey. He even memorises every hippo herd in his territory. Eventually his patience pays off. A huge hippo, this time a huge male with deadly teeth. He needs to get close before he attacks. The chair and table provide the perfect cover. The young hippo has fallen for his ambush, he goes in for the kill. Mission accomplished.
