We're looking for UK cat owners currently caring for a cat with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to complete a survey to help veterinary researchers gather more information on this condition, which commonly affects older cats.

If you can help and have 15–20 minutes to spare, please consider taking the survey 👉 https://forms.office.com/r/JFUMCZBxUs

Thank you for taking the time to collaborate for cats! 😺

When it comes to cat beds, provide open and hidden options so your cat always has a choice. In a multicat household, ensure there are ample options for everyone.

Timid cats often like beds that provide a little concealment because it provides security. This way, they remain hidden while they evaluate what's going on in the environment and it also prevents them from being ambushed from behind.

Cats approach each other and engage in a round of nose-to-nose sniffing to determine familiarity and do an initial scent investigation. When you extend your finger at the same height as the cat’s nose, without making any other move, you give the cat the option to approach or not.

Great news

Great news

🔥Hot from the press! 🔥ABCD's Katrin Hartmann's team (including Regina Hofmann-Lehmann and this year's Young Scientist Awardee Katharina Zwicklbauer) just published proof that a 6-week treatment of FIP cats with oral GS-441524 is equally effective as the 12-week protocol. Great news for cats and cat owners alike!

🚧 A1 Southbound lane closures near Gateshead continue 🚧

Drivers on the A1 southbound in Gateshead are advised to allow extra time for journeys this Bank Holiday weekend due to mine workings issues.

❗⌚Significant delays are expected with full overnight closures and continued daytime lane closures between J68 (Lobley Hill) and J65 (Birtley) until at least early next week.

🚨🚧An emergency full closure was implemented last night. Further full closures will continue tonight (23 May) and tomorrow night, with diversions from J69.

More overnight closures are planned between J66 (Eighton Lodge) and J65 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights.

Daytime lane 1 closures between J66 and just past J65 will also remain into next week, reducing the A1 to a single lane.

The J65 southbound exit slip will stay closed, with no access to the A1231 from the A1 southbound. Non-motorway traffic will be diverted at J66.

Project Manager Helen Burrow stated, "These closures are necessary to ensure safety while we investigate and repair the area. We aim to reopen the road fully as soon as it’s safe."

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and avoid the area if possible. Updates will be provided as the situation progresses.

🚧 Emergency lane closures on A1 southbound junction 65 near Gateshead 🚧

Significant delays are expected to continue on the A1 Gateshead today

This emergency closure is due to issues with mine workings near the carriageway. We need to carry out further investigations before a we can repair the road.

🔹 Junction 65 southbound exit slip will remain closed, meaning no access to the A1231 from the A1 southbound.
🔹 Lane 1 southbound between Junctions 66 (Eighton Lodge) and just past the Junction 65 (Birtley) exit slip will remain closed for safety.

Please expect significant delays and consider alternative routes or avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary. We will keep you updated as we progress with the repairs.

National Highways Project Manager Helen Burrow says, “These closures and diversions, though inconvenient, are crucial to ensure everyone's safety while we perform essential repairs. Please plan ahead, allow extra time for your journeys, and avoid peak travel times if possible.”

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
