Where does one begin, Dottie came into my life on May 5,2013 when I picked her up from her breeder, Donna Yielding in Birmingham, AL. She was only 17 weeks old at the time and weighed just over 2 lbs. As she went from puppyhood into adult hood she doubled her weight to 4 lbs 3 oz. A snuggler and a sweetheart from the very start. She adored cuddling especially at times of thunderstorms or fireworks because those loud noises scared her. At points, she would climb on my chest cuddle her self around my neck and want to jump in my throat to hide. I always petted her and calmed her down. She rarely would bark but if she did is was normally to scare a much larger dog. There was a time she growled and showed her teeth at a great dane who ran with her tail between her legs. Dottie kind of grinned like yeah you better run.
She loved my mom's yellow lab, Jennie and they would play on the sofa with Dottie climbing on her playing queen of the mountain top. Jennie was very gentle with her. Surprisingly enough Jennie is still hanging in there and will be 17 years of age on her birthday in a couple of months.
We would celebrate Dottie's birthday every year and she would get gifts and cake a bite of carrot cake. She enjoyed getting new toys, but her all time favorite gift was one she got for Easter this year which was a snuggle bed. Immediately claiming it as Dottie's bed by laying on it paws up in the air and falling asleep.
Her second favorite gift was sling snuggly, where she could get in and I could carry her where she wanted to go whether it was to one of her favorite pet stores, or to other places.
I had the pleasure of owning Dottie for 9 years 5 mo. and what a joy she was to have around.
Dottie loved when we would watch sporting events on tv like baseball games or ice hockey and even football games. Before moving to FL almost 3 years ago I would get her cheerleading uniforms for the different sports and she would be like a team mascot running back and forth either on the hardwood floors or on the sofa. When we moved to FL we have tile floors which made it hard for her to walk on with no traction so she would walk on the sofa, or the bed. Cheering the teams on Go Bucs or Go Bolts....
She always ate well and drank her water and rarely had issues except one time with her tummy. We got her on the right track though with some canned pumpkin and some pro biotics and she was good to go.
Dottie was a great traveler as well. Many trips up to KY for Nationals, there was one trip where there was 14 in of snow and Dottie was NOT impressed. It was too cold for her dainty tiny paws. She preferred to be in a blanket. Now mind you in winter she would be in a parka before stepping on paw outside. She preferred winter in FL as it rarely got cold except for maybe a day or two.
Even though I have a pool here in the back yard, Dottie never got in the pool. She didn't mind baths too much as long as you put her under the dryer. She did have a thing though with me trimming the hair from her paws it was like don't touch the feet.
This page is meant as a memorial page so any fond memories you have or pictures feel free to share.
There were times where we had private times where she would lay on the tile floor on her snuggle bed in the bathroom and she'd actually talk to me in her soft voice wondering what Mother Nature was going to do would she be playing with her thunder toys would she be throwing hail at the car or at the windows. I would always ask her if we needed to send a memo to the big guys upstairs to take her thunder toys away from her sandbox if she wasn't playing nice with others. To which she replied yeah mom do that please. I know that she missed her buddies Tad and Toto when they both went to rainbow bridge. Now sadly it was Dottie's turn on Thursday morning at 9:53 a.m. she passed away in her sleep. If she had made it to Dec 28 she would have be 10 years old. Instead she gained her angel wings.
I remember taking her to a Pom Summer Specialty in DeLand, FL. I had to bring the equipment down for the specialty and I was going to a grooming seminar done by Tony Cabera where Dottie was going to get her first professional grooming. Well she was not amused about Tony grooming her and she let it be known that she wasn't amused by peeing on his dress shirt not once, but several times. Oops sorry Tony lol She always had a way with letting you know if you weren't doing something to her satisfaction.
After she would eat her meals she wanted to cuddle next to my left thigh.
Unfortunately, in 2020 in Sept I had an issue with my good eye and required immediate surgery to fix it. That meant that I would spend almost two weeks apart from all my animals while I healed from surgery. Well, that proved to be very detrimental to Dottie as we had never been apart from each other for that long. She ended up having severe distress emotionally and whenever she would wake up after a nap or sleeping through the night she would howl like she was all alone. I would always hug her and say Dottie, Mom is right here you aren't alone. To which she would calm down. I miss her with all my heart and soul, dear Dottie RIP my dear Mommy loves you and please wait for me at rainbow bridge.
Love always,
Mom
