We are drowning in bills right now.
And still, the calls for help keep coming.

We’ve been trying so hard to support cases without taking them on — because the truth is, we are stretched beyond what we can manage.

Bella was one of those cases.

We were told she had tick fever, liver damage, and only days to live.
But something didn’t sit right.
She came with a stack of reports, multiple prescriptions… and a story that didn’t add up.

So we stepped in — not to take her over, but to help.
We asked for her to be brought to our critical care vet and covered the cost of tests for the day, just to understand what was really going on.
It wasn’t tick fever.

It was kidney damage. Renal failure.
She was also severely dehydrated.
Even then, because of how difficult things are for us financially, we didn’t take her in.

We started her treatment and gave her owners a full treatment plan. We explained everything. We tried to support from the outside.
We asked them to bring her back in 5 days.

We checked in after 4.
Nothing had been done.
Not a single step of her treatment had been followed.
So yesterday, we asked them to surrender her.
Because Bella was not getting the help she needed.
She is now in hospital, fighting.
We don’t know if she will make it.
But we will do everything we can.
We hear this question often — even from our own vets:

“If they are already struggling, if they don’t understand care, why get a dog like this? Why not give a home to a street dog who could live simply and happily without any extreme care needs. ?”

We ask the same thing, over and over again.
Right now, we are trying to help more than we have the capacity for.
But how do you turn away when you know what happens if you do?

Adoptees LK

Adoptees LK was founded on the 3rd of September, 2019 as a means of contributing to animal welfare in Sri Lanka. Adoptees LK puts dogs and cats up for free adoption and urges compassionate citizens to adopt instead of shop for pets.

We are an online pet adoption service. We only provide a platform for fosters/owners looking to put strays/pets up for adoption to get their message across. We are a messenger platform, of sorts - we carry the message to those interested in adopting a pet.

Adoption Process

We don’t act as the middle man or get involved in the adoption process as those interested directly contact the foster/owner. The foster/owner is the decision maker in choosing the best home for their cat or dog from those who’ve reached out to them. Of course, we’ve advised all fosters/owners to screen the homes and take their time in making a decision.
