Album of the week: “For The First Time” Black Country, New Road. If you picked up on it yet, I’m a big fan of UK Post Punk. Black Country, New Road consists Tyler Hyde (bass, vocals), Lewis Evans (Sax, flute, vocals) , Georgia Ellery (violin, vocals), Luke Mark (guitar), Charlie Wanye (drums) and Issac Wood (lead vocals, guitar) who left the band this year. Bursting on to the UK Post Punk in 2019, Black Country, New Road came in hot with the release of two singles “Athens, France” and “Sunglasses.” It would be another 2 years for the band to release the album “For The First Time”.
Track Breakdown:
Athens, France- A rollercoaster from the beginning to the end. Saxophone🫣 do I have to say anymore.
Opus- Probably more of a roller coaster than Athens, France. From start to finish there’s not a single second of filler or crappy song writing. Just pure s*x for the ears.
Track X- Sweet lyrics, beautiful hypnotic violin, solid song.
Science Fair- One of the more experimental tracks on the album. Which they did a good job on. Chaotic guitar in the beginning, screeching saxophone in the end. 10/10.
Instrumental- Like the track name says, this is indeed a instrumental track. A trifecta of the saxophone, drums, and flute make for a surprisingly beautiful piece of music. I wonder what this would sound like with lyrics though.
Sunglasses- Keep Kanye Out of it. Sexy saxophone, cheeky lyrics, perfect drums.
I prefer this album to Ants From Up There.
