A few more posts showing some pics o this darling boy.
This one...my cat has a coffee table in front of the bedroom window. She has a bed and had her food on it. She likes to lie there in the sun.
Here's Jukku using it too.

Three weeks and three days and he's gone to his new family. Such a beautiful boy. Howdy will miss playing with him. I got a photo of him sleeping on the sofa bed next to Darren last night. I'll post later. Got a busy afternoon to stop me crying. I am glad to do this for him. But...I will miss him terribly for the next three weeks and three days. Such a wonderful experience. I've foster failed on my last two dogs. Only been good with cats. I have a bit more confidence now that I can do it again. Not just yet though, time for two dogs on the bed and extra cuddles for Dhara. Thanks for following. A pic on the sofa to follow, and a pic when he finally sits still at his new home. Hopefully he doesn't knock the kids over. Good luck Jukku.

Jukku has his first meet and greet on Wednesday. He's been getting lots of cuddles just in case.
We were sitting outside with the dogs the other night and I mentioned to my husband how he seemed like the "typical" dog.
His favourite things are:
Going outside
Coming inside
Laying on the bed
Laying on the couch
Following Darren around the yard
Going for a walk
Eating
Treats
Drinking
Chasing Howdy
Play fighting with Howdy
Spooning on the bed
Laying in doorways
Going in the car
Sleeping
Running
Eating again
Showing how good he can sit
Resting his chin on your arms and staring into your eyes
Watching the other dogs
Going on more walks
Going outside
Coming inside...
These are all his favourite thing. And I mean "going outside - my favourite thing", " coming inside - my favourite thing", repeat ...

My latest update on my foster.

03/12/2020

My Maremmas have quite loose collars. They sit in the neck fur and don't fall off. I use a harness to walk them. Tonight Howdy and Jukku were playing, and suddenly Jukku is laying on the ground chewing Howdy's collar. I am glad we taught him "leave" first. Still need to work on "drop".
Last night Jukku decided to chase the Geese in the dam. He responded reasonably to leave and stopped in his tracks at UTTT. Problem was he then came to bed smelling of slimey dam water. I got some photos of the boys playing yesterday. I'll post those when I am back on the computer. I'll get his weight again in the next two days. He doesn't look so skinny to me anymore. I can just see his ribs now when he walks.
I'm going to have to set up a sniff-ari for him to tire him mentally. Dhara is now 5. I seem to have forgotten that large breeds are puppies until they are three.
He's conked out on the bed now...until I move. Lol.

We are up to day 11.
Jukku had Santa photos done on Saturday. He got to see some of his favourite vet nurses and meet some new people and new doggies.
He is getting quieter around home and settling quicker around us.
It's been pretty hot the last few days, my other dogs are happy to stay in the air conditioned bedroom, but Jukku will still follow me around the house.
He cried a little when Darren left him Saturday to bring the other dogs for Santa pics. It was his first time home alone, and he was pretty well behaved. He did eat a leftover bag of renal cat food. I needed reassurance from Belinda that I didn't need to supplement that somehow. But otherwise furniture, remote controls, etc were all in tact. What a good boy. He was only left about an hour, so all day might bring out boredom behaviour.
All in all he's such a good loving boy.
He gained two kg last week, so we have dropped him from four cups twice a day to three and a half cups twice a day. He still gulps initially, but is starting to eat the second half slower.
He still has a poor sense of how big he is. If you let him on all the furniture, you are bound to get stood on at some point. Something to think about for adopting him to anyone with young kids. My poor cat moves pretty quick at times.
He still wants to lick the cat, but has learnt "leave".
He has finally convinced Howdy to play with him when we go out at night. I should try a video. They are very boisterous. Dugald still frets a little that they might get hurt. Dugald is my sensitive Greyhound. Here's some pics recently outside.

So...updating the past few days. Jukku has met the cat and wants to lick her. We think we have finally taught him "leave". He is also learning "drop". We have discovered that when he sIts next to us on the couch he can still reach whatever we are eating or drinking.
Drop is the only way to eat in peace. A normal person would have him sit on the floor.
He got on the bed Monday morning and got so excited he started mouthing me. He also grabbed my shorts pocket and chewed it a bit yesterday. He seems to revert to puppy mode when he gets over excited. We had friends visit yesterday and he barked at them and then one introduced wanted to jump on them. We are working on "down", but again he gets so excited at times. We have seen that when he jumps, he clears the ground by about one foot. I thought he was just jumping on me, but I am getting his paws on my chest on his way down. LOL.
Here's a pick of him with two of my other dogs and the cat on the bed.
I hope to have him for a photo for an hour or so Saturday morning at the bbq and Xmas photo shoot, somewhere around 10am. Come down and meet him at Helping Paws Vet at Park Ridge.

Monday 23rd...Day 3.
Jukku is starting to sleep when we sit still. He must be exhausted. Whenever one of us moves he has to come with us. I'm trying to remember how long the other dogs obsessively followed us around. Dugald did it for weeks on end. Howdy still follows me, but not obsessively. He just follows me and then lays down near me. Jukku jumps up for a cuddle if you move. I have three dogs and a cat in the bedroom in the a/c. Jukku in the loungeroom with me.
I started brushing him last night with one of those Kong rubber static brushes. He lost a lot of fur. I'm not sure if he's moulting in the heat or he's replacing his coat based on the fact that Belinda has had his diet vastly improved.
My phone isn't taking the best pics as there is a bit of plastic part way across the lens. I'll get more pics soon.
Just want to repeat what a lovely dog he is. Sat on my knee last night. Loves his cuddles.

I think he is a bit stressed. LOL.

Day 1 and 2. 21st and 22nd Nov 2020.
So, a few days ago there was a call out for someone to take a Great Dane Cross from my local rescue.
Guess what. We brought him home around 3pm yesterday.
His name is Jukku. The top of his head reaches almost to my navel. He is pretty small compared to some great Danes I have seen. We believe he is crossed with a Bull Arab.
I was a little concerned as he had been happily living outdoors and all our dogs live indoors in the current heat. They go out for a few hours each day, but are inside at night. I also wasn't sure how Howdy would react to him.
Well, I have to say what a wonderful experience it is fostering a happy balance dog. He is awesome.
He got on the bed this morning, but Howdy wasn't really happy about it. Howdy is letting him on the sofa bed, so long as he doesn't kick Howdy in the head as he turns around. Dugald is defending his couch. Dhara seemed a bit scared initially, but went on a walk with him this morning, and had a play before I got up.
Jukku ignored the cat yesterday, but is fascinated today. I'm separating them until he has been here a few days. So far everything is so new and exciting to him. He is an absolute cuddle bug and just wants to sit on your knee and lick your face. He has also licked Howdy's face, but Dugald was not so keen.
Here is a pic of him on the sofa bed in the lounge. He is starting to calm down enough to actually sleep. It's only day two. Give me a week or two and I think he'll be pretty good. He is up or adoption already. I think he really needs someone with him pretty much constantly. I was thinking Tradies dog or SAHM with teenage kids. He is not huge, but still 38.5Kg and still a little on the thin side. I will work on him not to jump on people. Other option for him would be a home with another dog for him to love and play with during the day.
I'll try to post the adoption link to the top of this page to make it easy to find.

21/11/2020

So...today I picked up my new foster dog. He is a Great Dane Cross, about 2 years old and completely normal. I'll do an update on his first few hours at home shortly. Just getting his page started.

21/11/2020

Here's my first test post. I've created a page so people can follow Jukku's progress, without being unindated by my Dad Jokes.
