I spent some time this morning looking through old pics. These are some shelter pups from several years ago when I first started grooming. It was truly amazing to see the transformations in personality once these babies were cleaned up. They were always adopted almost immediately after being groomed.

Good morning my lovely clients. I've already let some of you know that you'll be getting price increases. Unfortunately due to increasing gas prices & general inflation I cannot avoid it if I want to stay in business. I've absorbed this cost over several months & cannot afford to continue. I understand that you all are facing the same challenges & I hate it. I appreciate every one of you & love your babies.

Little Milo was kind enough to model the new Trach Saver restraint I purchased at the Atlanta Pet Fair as well as before & after use of the new Zolita shampoo. I wish I had gotten photos of how he looked before & after his groom but unfortunately I didn't. I can assure you he was just as cute as he is in these.

My final haul....some new products including the new to the market Trach Saver which I'm excited to use. This particular restraint is designed for pups who may have throat issues. It goes around a dogs front legs & shoulders & there is 0 contact with the throat. I'll be using it on my seniors, special needs dogs, puppies & all small dogs that can be prone to trachea injury. I also have some proven products I keep in my arsenal, new tools to try & replacements for things that are worn. Between travel cost, education classes, certifications, equipment maintenance, equipment replacement & supplies, trade shows get expensive. My theory is if I learn one thing in a class it's well worth it. Anything that helps me do a better jobs for your pups is well worth it. It is an investment in my business, myself & your pups.

Atlanta Pet Fair has been an absolute blast! I'm super excited to get back to work & try out the new products, knowledge & skills I've acquired over the weekend. Four more hours of continuing education today & then we're heading back to Greenville. The picture is of me with some other mobile groomers from the Greenville area. Yes the little silver poodle wearing jeans is real. His name is Frog & everyone wants to take him home!

So happy to be at the Atlanta Pet Fair once again. Trade shows are an opportunity for groomers to network, continue their education & reconnect with old friends. I've got a bit more shopping to do & I'll spend the major portion of today recertifying for my pet first aid & CPR. It's always good to stay up to date on any changes & just to keep skills up to date. Groomers always hope to never need these skills but I'm committed to providing care to your precious family members in the event of an emergency.

Meet Cocoa, she's 6 months old & this was her first groom. I don't typically recommend waiting that length of time for a puppy's first groom but she has some anxiety issues.. Groomers put in a good bit of time teaching your puppy how to behave for grooming & also giving you things to work on at home so the process is easier for everyone involved. If you're adding a new family member contact groomers ASAP to get your first appointment set up even if it will be a month or two.

After taking some time to warm up to me I think I have a new best friend & she did great! Welcome Cocoa

Five years ago I was a volunteer at Greenville County Animal Care. I still remember how bad these guys smelled. It was special for sure. Joanne Powner is still there helping the pups by getting them spiffed up. Shelters are a great place to start if you're looking for a furry friend.

Eww, fleas. In addition to being carriers of disease & other parasites they really skeeze me out. They've been an issue this year & it's still warm which means they're still around. Please make sure you're keeping your pups current on their flea prevention and in our area that means year round. I do require all clients to maintain prevention. Finding fleas on your pup means I have to reschedule others in order to avoid spreading the little creatures. Additional fees will apply to cover the expense of treating my equipment & the additional cleaning time I spend. Consult with your veterinarian about the appropriate medication for your pet.

Here's a picture of my little crazy guy for attention 😅 I just want to let my wonderful clients know that I'm working on my schedule through the end of the year. As I schedule around the holidays that might mean that your appointments shift to a week earlier or later. I'm trying to accommodate everyone so they can enjoy clean pups for all of the festivities as well as making sure that I'm able to enjoy some family time & a short vacation between Christmas & New Years. Thank you in advance for your flexibility & understanding!

Meet Raymond, he really wants to be a good boy & he is until you attempt to handle his back end for anything at all. See, Raymond's mom tries to clean his rear end sometimes & when he bites her she stops. This is a natural reaction for any sane person because no one likes being bitten. This also spells trouble for his groomer. For his health Raymond needs his sanitary area trimmed as well as his back feet & nails. At a little over a year old Raymond has many years ahead of having those things done. Cones give a groomer a little more space to avoid being bitten & the use of the sling frees up both hands to work. With a small dog like Raymond restraining them poses a challenge as we don't want them to hurt themselves. Both of these items are what I refer to as passive restraint. Neither restrict his breathing in any way nor do they put pressure on his body which could increase his impulse to struggle. Groomers strive to use only the amount of restraint necessary to get the job done while keeping everyone safe & we use a variety of tools to do so. Many times taking away a dog's ability to bite causes them to stop trying. My goal for Raymond is to one day not need these tools but in the meantime I can rock him like a baby in the sling to settle him down.

Y'all meet Boots. He just hit the lottery with his new mom, dad, brother & sisters. He was very nervous as he's just started settling in with his new family & his sister Lily told him to watch out for the groomer. He's just the sweetest and I can't wait to see how he settles in. Plus I got to practice handstripping.

This is Pepe. He was such a sweet older gentleman but has some health issues. He hasn't had a full groom in some time since Mom & Dad moved from Tennessee. They have taken him to a local shop that was unable to finish because he was too stressed & they were concerned about his safety. The groomer was so right to make this call & kudos to her!

He did great with the lower stress level of mobile. He was the only dog so didn't have to deal with the stress of other dogs being around & the constant noise of a busy shop.

At some point in your pup's life they will transition to what is called a "comfort groom." Typically that will include priority things like nails, paw pads, sanitary, clearing out the eyes to avoid irritation & then anything else your pup is able to tolerate. It won't be perfect.

Your groomer may decide that they can no longer groom your dog in the environment of a busy salon. They may refer you to someone that does one on one grooming, mobile or a groomer on staff at a veterinarian. It's completely because they love your dog & it's a hard choice for your groomer to make because we become very attached to our clients.

Black dogs are so hard to photograph. Here's little Bon Bon after much editing. This was her first actual grooming & she did great. Just a bath, face, feet, sanitary & a very light trim. Mom does a great job of home maintenance even though she doesn't like it yet. Puppies are busy by nature & want to wiggle & chew on brushes. The more you do at home, the better your puppy is for the groomer! We introduce them to all kinds of things they haven't seen before so if they're at least comfortable with part of the process they do much better. Time, patience & keeping the experience positive is the best way to handle a baby dog. Don't be afraid to ask your groomer or trainer about tips & techniques.
