R.I.P. Gentle George
George was the oldest steer at Patch’s Animal Sanctuary, and he will be sorely missed. He was 30 years old.
Every morning, George would trudge down to the main house, where he was hand-fed his breakfast. Even though his cancer was progressing and his arthritis made him very slow on his feet, George still loved his food and a good pat first thing.
The big gentle giant went peacefully with his favourite human by his side. Fly Free big fella.🐂

Good news, New Zealand has just banned greyhound racing. Well done NZ!
There have been three reviews in recent years highlighting animal welfare concerns.

It's a very sad time at Patch's Sanctuary. Our beloved Sanctuary "clown" Marvin the goat has passed away. He was rushed to the vet but it was too late. Blood test results revealed he had been bitten by a snake. He will be sorely missed by both humans and his animal friends. R.I.P Marvin.😭

Meet our new resident. Lucky came to Patch's after his mother died. He still loves his bottle but is learning to munch on his calf crumble.

Happy Birthday George. George is 26 years old. He's been through many adventures in his life. He is a cancer survivor and is still under going treatment for his eye tumour. Thank you to all his kind donors and sponsors for helping George have a long and happy life. We love you George, from everyone at Patch's Animal Sanctuary.

Patch’s Animal Sanctuary
Patch’s Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity, a not for profit sanctuary for farm animals and wildlife, where domesticated and wild animals can live together safely and happily. Wybelena Farm was purchased specifically for Patch, but soon, others would join her.
Our cow story began with Patch. Patch was rescued when she was 6 months old on her way to the sale yards. She had survived against the odds without ever knowing her mother. It’s not possible to save all the animals from being slaughtered, but we believe that even saving one life is very significant, and worthwhile.
What We Do
We currently have 18 cows at the sanctuary who are of different ages and backgrounds. Some have been saved as young animals when they were weeks or less away from slaughter, others are old cows who have had numerous calves and would also been sent to the sale yards, being too old or in too poor a condition to raise further calves. All can now live a long and happy life free roaming.
The farm also has a significant number of koalas. Sadly, koalas everywhere are in a perilous situation, mainly due to lack of habitat. The koala forage trees on the farm are often eaten extensively by hungry koalas. They desperately need more trees. Our vision is to continue planting koala forage trees and protect the existing trees for the benefit of wildlife.
