Roost'n Roots Craig and Jennifer started their homestead in March of 2019 with a flock of chickens and two guineas.

They now have ducks and rabbits and are working hard to establish their gardens for fresh food year round.

With the exception of harmful pesticides both organic and treated produce have the same nutrients and minerals.

Tonight's dinner is Roasted Spaghetti Squash stuffed with onions, peppers, tomatoes and tomato sauce all from our homestead garden.

We added sweet ground sausage, mushrooms and shredded Parmesan cheese.

It's amazing seeing these vibrant Habanero peppers ripen. We will make our first varieties of hot sauces next week. It'll be our first attempt doing it.

The great thing is we get to decide the combination of peppers and other ingredients that are grown on our Homestead.

My son, Christian, has been really helping Jen and I on the homestead. Whether it be: feeding, watering, and nurturing the fowl or rabbits; or harvesting vegetables; tending the grounds; amending the soil; sifting the homestead fertilizer; or cooking and cleaning.... he has been amazing to have at home and he tries and learns new things. Thank you, son.

Creative ways to play with your food.

Homestead Margarita Pizza made with our fresh Sweet Basil, Tomatoes, Pizza Sauce, Gypsy Peppers, and Garlic.

P.s Added a Nasturtium and Sweet Basil flower for the center. And drizzled olive oil across the pizza.

We used organic Buffalo Mozzarella, Parmesan and Cheddar cheeses from the store.

"Ripening on the vine is for the birds!" - Craig Sour

Peppers don't quite ripen the same way as tomatoes however waiting for either to ripen on the vine increases the chance for animals to eat / pests dwell inside them. But not so much for the spicy peppers.

We usually keep the sweet peppers on the vine until at least a third has changed to orange/red.

Good morning from our homestead and homestead garden. We're not a business but enjoy sharing with our friends, family and community much of what we grow, cook, etc. We also enjoy learning from people nearby and far.

How long did it take the two of you to build your homestead? It has taken us 4 years to get this far. Jen and Craig talk it, plan it, prep it, do it, maintain it, adjust it. Our homestead is nearly done with the main footprint of the homestead garden is the the back of our property. If we want to maximize yields we'll focus on vertical, functional and aesthetic adjustments. We've transformed a clay slope into an erosion free and productive garden.

This is ELLE. She is a beautiful 8 week old puppy. My son, Christian, is trying to find the right owner for her. His dog, BELLA, had birth complications which resulted in ELLE having to be resuscitated to live. She is very docile, loving, shy, and a calm Aura. ELLE may have suffered some neurological damage during the resuscitation process as her vision may be affected. She has no other known issues. ELLE will make the perfect companion for the person that is also gentle, loving and caring.

I had to see for myself with personal experience raising Jumbo Cornish X. I'm blown away with how stupendously big they are week after week If you take a close look you'll notice that at the same age as the Buff Orpingtons they're twice as large (18 days old 2lbs vs 1.2lbs)
