Roost'n Roots Craig and Jennifer started their homestead in March of 2019 with a flock of chickens and two guineas.

They now have ducks and rabbits and are working hard to establish their gardens for fresh food year round.

Today, November 17, Craig harvested the last of our Apocalypse Scorpion, Scotch Bonnet and Thai Chilies. Hands down this was our best pepper season since starting our homestead.

Rifle hunting season is upon us. Christian bought a 12 gauge Mossberg 500 with interchangeable barrels and a Savage 270 XP II Pro.

It will be the first time hunting together. Jennifer will be joining us and has her eyes set on a Henry 22 LR Lever Action Rifle for small game and protecting the homestead from racoons, foxes and coyotes.

I'll be using my longtime favorite caliber for 45 years, the 30 Aught 6 which supports the most gun powders, and can be used for varmint to moose.

Also, the 30 Aught 6 supports grains from 110 to 220 with extremely variable shell lengths.

Things have winded down here on the homestead. We're in maintenance and care mode through March. However, we will do some experiments with new species of plants in our indoor plant room.

Be safe. Stay warm. Enjoy your loved ones.

Keep a positive outlook 🙂

Celebrating our 6th year on Facebook. Thank you for your continuing support. We could never have made it without you. 🙏🤗🎉

Last night we lost 6 hens and a rooster to racoons. This was the first incident since we started our homestead 6 years ago. None of our Muscovy ducks were attacked.

The drive-thru might be quick, but it can’t replace the nourishment of a homecooked meal. The store shelf might be easy, but it won’t give you the same satisfaction as pulling jars from your own pantry. Every shortcut comes with a price tag..sometimes visible, sometimes hidden. Choosing slow, simple, and intentional isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.
