INCOMING testimonial from Distinctive Dog Trainer Darren Wiltshire from DW Dog Training and Pet Care 🤩🤩🤩
"I have really enjoyed the whole course; each week was really informative and made you stop and think about the way you were running your business and each week made you want to challenge the way you were doing things. The guest speakers were just fantastic, I especially found the talks given by Catherine Phoenix Hallam MSc, Carrie-Anne Selwyn and Robin Waite the most beneficial to me and my business model.
It was nice to know that just the same as PPN we are in a ‘Safe’ environment and we were able to share experiences and opinions without fear or any judgement from each other or anyone thinking what we said was stupid.
Writing my core story was initially very challenging, but by writing it this reminded me why I wanted to become a dog trainer in the first place and also how much people value what we do for them. The core story has also meant I have people now contacting me after reading it and getting a feel for the face behind the business, this also gives them the sense that you can relate to the issues they are having, something Helen taught us early on.
I was also found writing longer relatable posts on my Facebook feed challenging, but once you start to get in the flow things do start to get easier, I normally find the most challenging thing is having the time to write them.
I have also managed to build new relationships with members of our course, especially Nathan Dunleavy, and we often have a text or a chat about things, even if it’s just to say Hi and have a quick check in.
I now do discovery calls more often, and from the call I gain a more in depth understanding of the issues the client is having, this means I can they tailor the sessions better to that client and can prepare myself better before I arrive. It also gives me a chance to offer more sessions so we can cover everything the client needs help with.
Safety has always been on my mind, but the course really made me think about that, especially the meeting clients outside or on neutral ground when they may have a reactive dog, it’s something I question more now than I ever did.
Since the talk by Robin Waite and the same information from Helen, I now look at the full service I provide and realise that it’s not just the one hours 1-1 session that I need to be charging for, it’s the session, and preparation time, emails, following up calls, travelling time etc etc, I have now increased my prices to try and reflect this better."
