Finding of the week: This is an older patient who came in to have a mass removed. While she was anesthetized her parents decided to have her teeth cleaned as well. Look what we found under all the tartar build up…..a fractured tooth that over time has decayed creating the hole you see, causing pain and infection. This is why it’s so important to get your pet’s teeth cleaned on a regular basis. Tartar build up can hide disease that we didn’t know was there. This pet is now all fixed up and on its way to a pain-free mouth!😁🦷

Teeth are like icebergs! You only see about 1/3 of the tooth- the rest is under the gums. Can you see at the 2cm mark where the “hidden” part of the tooth begins? That means this K9 tooth is over 2 inches long! We needed to remove this tooth because it was broken exposing the pulp cavity! The pulp cavity can be seen as the dark spot at the bottom of the tooth. Concerned about your pet’s teeth? If so, call us today at (480) 233-7276.

Do chickens have teeth? Well… teeth, no. But a tooth, yes! Chicks develop an egg tooth on the tip of their beak while in the egg to help them break through the inner membrane at the blunt end of the egg before they hatch! 🐣🐥

This is a slide from a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT), one of the most common tumors we see in dogs. See the needle? It’s pointing to one of the tumor cells. MCT’s can change in size due to them containing histamine. See the little dots all around the image? Those are the histamine granules! If you have ever taken an antihistamine like Benadryl, this is what you’re fighting! If you are concerned about a bump then give us a call (480) 233-7276.

This is a ruptured tooth root abscess causing a furcation defect. A furcation defect is bone loss due to dental disease where the tooth roots separate. This can be painful and requires tooth extraction to cure. Fortunately, we were able to easily resolve this with a teeth cleaning and this pup is now on his way to a pain free mouth! 😁 Concerned about dental disease? Call us today at (480) 233-7276.

Periodontal disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed conditions we see in our 4-legged friends. This is the result of a ruptured tooth root abscess from significant tartar accumulation. Good news though- a dental cleaning and a little TLC will get this little man back to his normal self in no time! Does your pet have bad breath? Do you see tartar buildup? If so, call us today at (480) 233-7276 to schedule an oral examination.
