So what started as an ā€œoh crap, I have an extra roma tomato plantā€¦I canā€™t let it go to waste, so what the heck, Iā€™ll plant it in the front flowerbed, wrap it with bird netting to detour the deer from eating it and weā€™ll see how it goes!ā€

I had to cut the bird netting at the top because this tomato plant be all like ā€œHELLLLLLOOO WORLD!ā€ šŸ¤£

Hello, friends! I hope this yearā€™s gardening journey is going extremely well for you all šŸ„°

I am in need of your assistance and expertise!

This year has been the first year that critters didnā€™t devour a cabbage plant in our garden, yay!

Now, I just donā€™t know when is the appropriate time to harvest. Based on these pictures where I tried to include my hand as a reference, can you please help me?

Iā€™m in Michigan Zone 6a.

Thank you all so much šŸ˜Š

This is our first year growing garlic, and weā€™ve purposefully grown hardneck varieties in our garden here in zone 6a. Now that itā€™s time to harvest and use the garlic scapes, we needed to educate ourselves on exactly how to do that.

GardenerScott to the rescue šŸ„°

We are still looking for other recipes and ideas on how to use garlic scapes as well! Feel free to share in the comments below what yā€™all do with them šŸ˜Š

Easy demonstration of how to harvest garlic scapes and some recommendations on how to use them in the kitchen. Garlic scapes are a delicious part of hardneck...

JM and I took all of our extra seedlings of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and pepper plants and distributed them to JMā€™s daycare and DaDaā€™s elementary school (State Road Elementary) as donations today.

We also went to Carlsons' Greenhouse this afternoon and got some planter pots and other goodies to help facilitate growing spaces at JMā€™s daycare. Between Carlsonsā€™ generosity and support combined with Jordan Marieā€™s gardening expertise to share at her daycare will lead to many learning opportunities and beautiful memories will be made possible!

Support your local greenhouses and nurseries, friends! They deeply care about including children in the garden and providing them with all of the tools and knowledge they need to succeed ā¤ļø

Springtime here in Michigan Zone 6a reminds us that this pivotal time continues to offer fluctuations in temperatures. Itā€™s hard to resist planting warm weather crops that prefer not only warm air temps, but also warm soil temps like peppers and tomatoes when a few warm days arrive!

Iā€¦mustā€¦resist! šŸ¤£

Dan and Laurie continue to inspire us in our gardens šŸ„°

We have had a beautiful boost of new followers over the last couple of week, so I would like to WELCOME everyone, say hello and THANK YOU for choosing to follow our journey - to ALL of our followers - New and longstanding šŸ‘‹šŸ¼šŸ’ššŸ™

It looks like many of you are from all over the globe, which I find very EXCITING and INSPIRING.
We would LOVE it if you would drop a comment below, sharing the country you are in and what your FAVOURITE or BEST crop is that you grow or what you most DREAM of growing? šŸ’¬šŸ‘‡

We are Dan, Laurie (and Murphy the Border Collie) and we started growing food here in 2017, with a passion for Self Sufficiency. We are currently around 60-80% self sufficient in ALL of our food needs from our 3 acres of land in the South of England - year round. We are constantly learning new methods, trialing new crops and finding ways we can be gentler on our beautiful planet as we experience the amazing journey that is LIFE šŸŒŸ

We post fairly regularly on Facebook and Instagram, sharing whatever is inspiring us the most through the seasons, we also share 2-4 videos per month on Youtube, where we post Season and Crops specific videos, Garden TOURS and monthly VLOGS.

I'll put video links in the comments below for the videos we've shared this month and hopefully you will enjoy following our videos too.
