If your dog had a human job, what would it be?

Hunter, my oldest and hungriest GSD, would thrive as a food critic or taste tester!

Samus, my samoyed, is loud as can be, making her a great opera singer.

Ahri, my young GSD, loves to move and exercise and would push people to work their hardest as a personal trainer.

Tell me, what cool job would your dogs have?

Life update: we moved!

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a little MIA lately, it’s because life has been… a lot! But I’m finally settling in, and the dogs are too.

Moving with dogs can be tough! Here’s what helped big time, and some things I’d do differently next time:

✅ Boarding them/leaving them with trusted friends while we physically moved.

✅ Unpacking dog stuff first, so they’d have familiar beds, toys, and smells right away.

✅ Decompression time and indoor enrichment activities, such as nosework and natural chews.

✅ Event medication to address short term anxiety and stress.

What I’d do differently next time:

➡️ Consider boarding the dogs an extra day to give us more time to unpack before adding the pups back in.

➡️ Practice settling on cue more at the old house prior to the move.

We are getting back into the groove now, and I’m excited to be back on here sharing more dog training content with you all! Have you moved with dogs before? What were your biggest challenges? Any game-changing tips? Drop a comment below! 👇

✨ Trickmas may be over, but the lessons we learned during those 25 days will stick with us year-round! ✨

This year, Trickmas showed us just how powerful virtual training can be. Here’s what we discovered:

1️⃣ Connection Knows No Boundaries: From local clients to participants across the globe, Trickmas brought dog lovers together. Virtual training allows us to connect, support, and learn no matter where we are!

2️⃣ Learning Can Be Bite-Sized: Trickmas proved that training in short, fun sessions (just a few minutes a day!) is super effective. Virtual coaching makes it easy to incorporate these mini-sessions into daily routines.

3️⃣ Accountability is Key: The Trickmas challenge motivated participants to stay consistent. Virtual training programs can include progress tracking, check-ins, and video submissions to keep everyone on track.

4️⃣ Individualized Support Works Wonders: Even in a group challenge like Trickmas, personalized advice helped participants tailor tricks to their dogs’ unique needs. Virtual training is all about customizing the approach to your dog!

5️⃣ Training is Fun! Trickmas reminded us that training can be a game—and virtual training platforms help keep it interactive, engaging, and rewarding for both dogs and their humans.

Ready to take the lessons of Trickmas and make your training goals a reality? Let’s talk about how virtual coaching could work for you and your dog!

Day 1: Sit (+ Out of Motion)

A simple one to start! But can you add the challenge of asking your dog to sit and stay while you keep walking?

1. With a food lure, lure your dog’s nose up and back.

2. Mark and reward when their butt hits the floor.

3. Repeat, gradually fading the lure, and add a verbal cue.

Out of Motion:

1. Walk backwards with your dog following you.

2. As you’re moving, say “sit” and lure them back into a sit.

3. Mark and reward when their butt hits the floor.

4. Gradually delay your marker so that you continue walking for a step, then two, etc. before you reward.

5. Transition to walking forward with your dog at your side, pausing after the sit at first.

6. Finally say “sit” and continue walking normally.

Let’s see this twist on a simple behavior!

Proud to announce I have been certified as a behavior consultant through !

A behavior consultant specializes in helping dogs with more complex behavioral challenges like fear, anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. Unlike general obedience training, behavior consulting focuses on addressing the underlying emotions driving these behaviors to create long-term change.

I’m excited to have my knowledge of behavior modification officially recognized!

The beginning of a lesson ——> the end of a lesson

Tali finished up the Practical Puppy Program today! She’s turning into quite the nice young lady. We worked on:

🔸 Puppy biting and how to manage it
🔸 Age appropriate exercise and mental stimulation
🔸 Attention around distractions
🔸 Introduction to leash skills
🔸 Door manners (including not jumping)
… and more!

Puppies are a lot of work, but the good news is you don’t have to do it alone.

Tag someone with a puppy down below! 👇

Next up in my series on dog sport: how to choose one!

These are just a few of the considerations that I think about when deciding on what sports to try with my dogs.

Choosing the right sport for you and your dog depends on factors like energy levels, natural instincts, and lifestyle.

From agility and nosework to rally obedience, there’s something for every dog-human duo. Even with my dog Samus who isn’t quite confident enough to compete in sports, we still have a blast training them!

Remember, it’s all about finding an activity that’s fun for both of you! Try out a few options and discover the joy of bonding with your dog through training.

What sport do you think your dog would love?

‘Alyse really is a master at her craft...I couldn’t believe my eyes when he stood there like a perfect gentleman and needed zero restraint whatsoever. Even the vet staff was amazed by the huge difference in his behavior in just a few short weeks.’

Stories like these make my day! This is exactly why I created the Hands Off! Cooperative Care course—helping dogs feel calm, safe, and even cooperative for vet visits, grooming, and more.

Seeing this fearful pup go from needing multiple people to hold him down to standing calmly on his own is a huge win for everyone involved. 🎉

If you have a dog who struggles with vet visits or grooming, Hands Off! might be for you. Comment ‘VET VISIT’ below to get an exclusive discount code on the course! (Available to the first 5 commenters!)

Imagine a week packed with non-stop work. Little time for rest, hobbies, or meaningful moments with friends and family—pretty exhausting, right?

The constant cycle of go-go-go can leave us feeling drained, moody, or even burnt out. In a capitalist society, this is all too familiar.

But here’s a thought: our dogs may be experiencing the opposite—with just as frustrating results.

Most dogs have endless opportunities to rest, often lounging for hours on end. But while they may have plenty of sleep, they’re often missing out on chances for what really excites them: active play, exploring the outdoors, hiking, training, or off-leash adventures.

When their need for activity isn’t met, they may feel stressed, frustrated, and act out—kind of like us when we’re overworked and under-rested.

By balancing their needs, we can help our dogs feel more content. So, whether it’s a sniff-walk, an off-leash hike, or an engaging training session, these little adventures can make a huge difference in our dog’s mood AND behavior.

When both of our needs are met, we’re happier, healthier, and way more fun to be around.

How do you make sure you meet your dog’s needs? Share your ideas with us below!

🎃 Halloween Safety Tips for a Happy Pup! 👻

Halloween fun doesn’t have to be spooky for your dog! Here are a few quick tips to keep them safe and relaxed:

1️⃣ Create a calm space: If your dog gets anxious with doorbell sounds or strangers, set them up in a quiet room away from the action. Play calming music and give them a snack, or try leaving candy outside in a bowl to avoid door traffic altogether!

2️⃣ Keep candy out of reach: Remember, chocolate and most sweets are toxic for dogs! Store treats safely out of paw’s reach. 🙅🍫

3️⃣ Skip the costume if they’re not into it: If your dog doesn’t love wearing costumes, don’t force it! They’ll enjoy the night much more when they’re comfy and relaxed.

Enjoy a safe and happy Halloween together!
