NEW PHOTOS - What my friends at ACC say about me:
I can go home today!
I'm an independent kitty who likes to do my own thing.
I am looking for a home with a patient person.
I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.
I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them.
Pretty Midi wants to spend her golden years in a cozy home!
13 year old Midi is an owner dump. She is already spayed and generally healthy. Midi is not a happy camper in the shelter and would love to meet a new furever friend who will give her a new home. Come meet her at MACC. What my friends at ACC say about me:

Hello, my name is Midi. My animal id is #154216. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 13 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/23/2022, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.
Midi is on the emergency placement list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to their stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Behavior History
Behavior Assessment
Midi was stressed upon intake. She hissed and remained in a tight body. The owner warned us endlessly about her being very feral and advised us to make the least amount of contact with her as possible. We set a feral den in front of her crate and she did not want to go inside. We ended up picking her up with cat gloves and placing her inside the feral den.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/1/22
Crouched down facing out toward me. Started growling a few seconds after I approached the door. Offered dry treats on scratcher. Sniffed and ignored. Left dry treats nearby in front of her. Offered Squeeze up on scratcher from a slight distance. Sniffed the air to find the squeeze up and then came up to the scratcher and ate squeeze up. approached a tiny bit closer with scratcher. swatted. Offered more squeeze up on scratcher from a slight distance. Came up to scratcher to eat squeeze up. repeat 2 or 3 times. (no growling) Left more squeeze up on a tray nearby.
10/2/22
Crouched down with rear facing the front. When spoken to and opening the door, she gets up and walks to the front. Midi eagerly accepts chicken fillet but pulls head back attempting to pet her head. She hisses at the environment and flicks her tail. When petting her cheeks, she sits up and bats the tool away. She curiously takes a few steps forward to explore. During pick up, she tenses up, lowers her body, growls, stress meows, and tries to squirm out of my hands. After placing her back down, begins to calm down and continues to appreciate more chicken as a reward for calm behavior.
10/3/22
At the front, sitting quietly shows interest in treats and sniffs them but when I go to pet her she hisses and attempts a swat. I offer catnip which she enjoys and she rubs it and when I attempt petting again with the scratching tool she growls/hisses and attempts to swat again.
10/5/22
Independent Lady! She was sitting upright by the front alert with soft eyes. Easily got annoyed when fixing her kennel card by the cage door and began to hiss and strike. Unable to interact and left offered treats.
10/6/22
At middle of kennel lying down in loaf position. Ignores treats offered and allows gentle petting on head with scratcher tool. Leans in hard and rolls over for cheek rubs, but gets easily overstimulated with the attention and nips the tool. I wait for her to calm down and she continues to tolerate petting on her head, but tenses up when reaching close to pet with my hand. When I stroke her back, she whines and quickly turns around to nip the tool, possible pet-induced aggression or sensitive to touch on her back.
10/7/22
Resting softly on top of the den on approach. Alert with soft eyes. When attempting to pet with the scratcher tool she hisses and swats with no claws. Midi escalates, growls and avoids contact.
10/11/22
Still very conflict. Hiding in den, walks out to greet me at the front. Very affectionate with scratcher tool; she head bunts for petting and leans in hard for cheek rubs. When stroking her back, she flicks her tail and looks back, then short-stress meows when receiving too much attention. Recovers fairly quickly and continues to appreciate petting with tool. Allows me to pet with my hand when leaning in, but once she looks up and sees my hand, she short-stress meows and tries to swat.
*Enrichment notes continued in GAN*

VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Sweet,Curious,Social,Bold,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Adult cat socialization,Fearful,New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home,Single-pet home

Midi tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
