Is there anything cuter than a sleeping kitten?
The kitten with the face injury is doing well! She (the smaller one in this picture) is recovering with no apparent life-long issues. And yes, that is her litter mate beside her. He’s a big boy!

Adoption Update:
Precious little Pumpkin is adjusting to having younger siblings. Not being the baby of the house was a shock to her orange brain but she is learning to live with it. She may even LIKE the kittens … someday.

Photo three may be disturbing so swipe with caution.
A couple within our organization was kind enough to take in three kittens in need of help. While two of them were fine, tiny Tama had an injury that caused quite a fright! She may have been attacked by something, causing an injury to her face and, well, you can see what happened. She is good now (as the last slide shows) but THIS is why we advocate for fixing animals, even if they don’t come inside. TNR is often deemed ineffective because you don’t see the immediate result but the truth is that it is effective because you’re limiting situations like this as well as lessening the stress on future generations. PLEASE fix them.
If you’d like to donate to our organization, we have PayPal (ButtonsStrays) and Venmo (Buttons_Strays) for one-time donations and a Patreon for monthly donations.

We’re still here.
Engagement has dropped significantly, which we understand. We haven’t been updating either. I (the ringleader) have taken a job out of state so I haven’t been around.
But the cats are here. Well, not this one but he’s cute, right? They’re waiting for the right people to come along. I’m trying to get them a place to call their own.

Looks like we have a new guest at the Stray Buffet! At first I thought this was my feral friend Benny, who was not been around for several months. Upon closer inspection I realized it was NOT Benny.
Note: Please do not approach wildlife. You are not a Disney Princess and they do not want to be your friends. They are only trying to survive in an ever-shrinking area.

(I’m not getting paid to tell you this but I think you should know…)

PetSmart has 10x treat points online through June 9th! If you’re looking to rack up those points toward future savings, this is a good time to do it! Let someone else do your shopping, pickup in store, curbside or deliver to home.

A happy tail coming your way!
Shortly after Sunshine passed, her adopter was ready for another black female cat. I told her about Morticia, who came to us as a TNR from another rescue and decided she would rather be a cuddle buddy than live on the streets. They had a meet and greet and their connection was instant. She has settled in almost as quickly, finding the best places to watch the world around her and cuddling with everyone who comes by. As her new mom says, “she loves to have play time once I get home from work. She’s a maniac!”

This is the worst part of loving an animal.

Sunshine passed away yesterday. Though we do not know the cause, we are working with her mom to get the appropriate testing done.

Please give your pets a little extra love this weekend. ❤️

This is Bernie. There’s nothing wrong with him, he’s just orange.

Bernie was adopted late 2022 by a couple who had been looking for a bonded pair of kittens for a while. They saw a litter of kittens had been born here and fell in love with Bernie and his tabby sister Betty.

Good morning, cat people!

A community member reached out about a cat that showed up on his doorstep around Christmas. He is fixed and friendly with people but seems to be questionable when other cats are around his food. The person who is currently caring for him thinks he was either kicked out when a lease expired, or his owner passed away and he was left to fend for himself. A trip to the vet showed no microchip.

While the cat is not currently in our care, we are trying to place him with a new indoor family. If you or someone you know is looking to add an orange boy to their life, please reach out!

************
UPDATE: A wonderful foster has stepped forward to take care of him until his family can be found. She is willing to adopt if no one comes forward.

Since we have gained a lot of new followers over the last few days, I wanted to say hello again!

We are Button’s Strays, a small cat care effort run from a home in central Pennsylvania. Our adoptable cats were either abandoned as adults (average age 6-7 years old) or captured as kittens.

We do TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) with local groups to reduce the stray cat population as well as adopt eligible cats into appropriate homes. We also work to convince stray and otherwise unfriendly cats that people are not the enemy so that they can become pets.

Our goal is to have a building of our own so that we can expand our efforts and help more people find their new furry friends.

Thank you for following, sharing, liking … every interaction helps increase our visibility!

Two new cats were seemingly dropped here right before the snow started a few days ago. Though we are not happy with someone doing so without reaching out to us, we will care for them.

We need to get more of our current cats adopted to make room to get these two fixed, moved inside and socialized to be adopted. They are very fearful so it’s a LOT of work but we are confident we can do it!

Here’s where you come in. To start earning from our posts and views and make our dream of having a building for the cats a reality, we need at least 1,000 followers. We have 102.

Please share our posts, invite your friends, spread the word! Every interaction helps.

Callie is getting very good at knowing what time it is.

Did you hit your snooze for an extra 10 minutes? Don’t worry, Callie knows you were supposed to be up and she is ready to greet you and show you where her bowl is (just in case you forgot).

Are you binging your new favorite show late into the night? Callie will tell you it’s time to turn off the tv by laying down nearby and giving you the stink eye until you go to bed.

She’s just responsible like that! If you’re interested in adopting Callie, reach out via message!

We had a snowy first weekend of 2024. Though the outside cats have several options to stay warm (including a heated house), a few have put their freedom and fear aside to be inside where the food is plentiful and the beds are fluffy. Jodi had a bit of a regression in our socializing but she is trying again and I am so proud of her.

Another week has gone by and Sunshine’s (formerly Martini) future is looking bright! She is grooming herself, finishing all of her meals, and even showing some interest in playtime!
She is still a little wobbly but that is understandable; when we found her, she couldn’t even stand on her own. It will take time to get her muscles moving again. Luckily she is in good hands!

(Sunshine is not available for adoption. We just like a happy tail ☺️)

Seymour is making progress! Today he came in and allowed me to close the door behind him. He was nervous but didn’t freak out so I released him. It’s important to remember when I’m socializing animals that I do not push them beyond their comfort zones.

I’ll let you guess which resident is behind me gearing up for a showdown they wouldn’t win.

Adoptable Callie only wants affection on her own terms and we respect that. Forcing interaction is NOT the way to her heart and may result in a slap or two. Crunchy treats, however …

These two photos are under 48 hours apart. This cat was found under a bush, so bony and exhausted she couldn’t even move. But she purred so we had hope that she had a family and someone was missing her. With no microchip, we had no way of knowing anything about her except that she wanted to love and be loved. Thanks to the amazing staff at Newville Animal Hospital, she is on the mend with her new, loving mom. We aren’t 100% sure what is going on with her but she is finally eating and grooming herself so we are taking it as a good sign.

PLEASE microchip your pets, get them fixed and vaccinated, and keep them inside as much as possible. This little girl could have met a horrible fate if not for one caring person.

Ruby is not a fan of being inside, but as it gets colder, she considers it again and again. Of course, she quickly changes her mind and demands to go outside again as soon as the food is gone.

Ruby is approximately 7 years old, fixed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is vocal but not as feisty as other torties. She has been around dogs and cats and shown no issues with either, though she should not be dropped into a new home without proper socialization and understanding of her situation.
