It's one of the best days of the year - National Kitten Day! Today we are celebrating and thanking everyone who is a part of our Kitten College program, from staff to fosters to transporters. These amazing people work hard, sometimes around the clock, to care for our tiniest and most fragile charges. In the past year, they have helped AWLA care for and adopt out thousands of adorable kittens, and we couldn't be more grateful!

Looking for an adopter!

Edmond is looking for that special someone...maybe that someone is you? 14-year-old Edmond shouldn't have to spend his golden years in a shelter. He hates being in a kennel so much that he spends most days at a staff member's cubicle (which makes him as happy as a clam, of course). Instead of a kennel he should be spending his days in a home with a family that loves him and spoils him rotten. Edmond is the kind of dog that would become part of the family right away - he loves all people, he's playful, house-trained, and is happy to nap while you're busy at work.

With the emergency surrender of 3 dogs this morning, we are now OVER capacity. In an attempt to do everything we can to make space at the shelter, we are waiving all adoption fees for dogs today. Please, if you or anyone you know has been thinking of adding a furry friend to your family, stop by and consider saving the life of a shelter dog. We really need your help, now more than ever.

Stafford County Animal Shelter is located at 26 Frosty Ln, Stafford, VA 22554 and we are open until 4:00 today - no appointment needed. Please note, adoption restrictions for dogs that are not spayed or neutered still apply.

Kuro didn’t make it. She tried hard but it was too much for her tiny body. Thank you for all the kind words of support today. She had a really cool personality and I’m sad she won’t get to grow up and be someone’s best friend. But she was warm and had her sisters. This is her first day photo when I brought her home from the shelter.

A bunny needs your help!

🐰 Special Fundraiser: Luciana needs your support: www.awla.org/donate/donate-special-fundraiser/. A few days ago, Luciana was rushed to the vet when our animal care technicians discovered she was very sick - she had a fever of 105, her heart rate was low, and she was having trouble breathing.

Luciana has now been at the vet for 4 days, receiving medication, breathing treatments, and round-the-clock care. She’s spending most of her time in an oxygen tank to help with her breathing and make sure she gets enough oxygen into her system. While Luciana is still in intensive care, the veterinarians report she is doing well and is a good patient!

Espurr hasn't been gaining weight so she's at for am emergency vet visit right now. We might have to continue to separate the kittens if she's sick. Hopefully I can pick her up later today.

Do you know this dog?

Do you recognize this dog? This female white and tan dog was found yesterday (July 13) at the 800 block of S Frederick St in Arlington. She looks recently groomed and is wearing a yellow bandana with a watermelon print. She is also wearing a gray canvas collar. She does not have a microchip.
