Love this!

Unsure if your dog will take to hydrotherapy, please get in touch and we can talk through any concerns or worries. We have lots of happy dogs that come and see us but they weren’t all keen to start with. Time and patience are key to successfully introducing hydrotherapy 🐾

Some of you may already have heard, but on Monday we had to say goodbye to Skippy.

He was certainly one of a kind and it’s going to take a while to get used him not being around.

Give your furry friends and an extra cuddle today!

Love being part of the Pawfit team ❤️🐾🎉

🐾 Meet the Team 🐾

Suzi has been a part of the Pawfit Team as a Canine Hydrotherapist since December 2020 when the rehabilitation centre first opened. Suzi trained at Hawksmoor Hydrotherapy where she gained her Level 3 Certificate in Small Animal Hydrotherapy.

When not working Suzi is busy studying for her Veterinary Physiotherapy MSc at Nottingham University. At home Suzi is kept busy by her nearly 15 year old Kelpie, Skippy, who despite his age is always up to something, so you are sure to hear tales of his antics.

It was because of Skippy and Westy(her previous 32yr old ex-racehorse) that Suzi became interested in rehabilitation. She has a particular interest in helping our golden oldies and seeing how the application of hydrotherapy can help improve their mobility and quality of life. Additionally she loves working as part of the team to help dogs as they progress through their rehabilitation and recovery.

Being part team Pawfit over the last three years has been amazing as it is the best Job!

Should my older dog wear a coat in winter

We get asked this quite a bit, a the answer is mostly yes.

Older dogs, particularly those with arthritic joints and other mobility issues benefit from keeping their joints and muscles warm when out on walk. Especially when it is cold and damp.

The kind of coat you choose is dependent on your individual dog but there are lots of options from fleece to waterproof, insulated to just a waterproof shell.

In terms of design some older dogs will struggle with coats where they have to put their front/back legs into ‘sleeves’. There are plenty of options though for coats with zips along the back to make this easier or coats that have a fasten that goes round the dogs torso to secure it.

When fitting a coat ensure it is long enough to provide cover to length of the back and wide enough to wrap round the body well covering the most of their tummy and hind legs well. It needs to allow good movement and not restrict the shoulders.

A number of coats now have reflective details to improve vis ability on dark nights and plenty of hi vis options are round too to make your dogs really visible in the day.

Also if you dog it attending hydrotherapy, having a fleece type drying coat for after their session really helps all dogs keep warm on their journey home as they will usually still be a bit damp. We want to make sure their muscles and joints are kept warm after their treatment session to avoid stiffness.
