During these trying times Living Rocks Tortoise Rescue is open & here to help out in whatever way we can. After a late-night road trip we picked up these 3 Box Turtles (enjoying a much needed warm soak)! Unfortunately, with all that is going on, their previous owners found themselves not able to care for them but we are overjoyed to be entrusted with this beautiful group of turtles. Welcome to LRTR little guys, we love you!
After a quarantine period and a visit to the Vet, they will be up for adoption. Check our website for updates! www.LivingRocksTortoiseRescue.com
Be safe out there everyone! Let us know if we can help in any way! 💜

Welcome Bitzy, a Mojave Desert Tortoise, to !! He is so curious and LOVES neck rubs! Desert Torts normally brumate during this time, but he’s awake because of an ongoing runny nose. We are overjoyed to have Bitzy and will have him at 💯 % in no time! Desert Tortoises are native to southwestern US and northwestern Mexico and are sadly listed as a “threatened” species. CA Fish & Wildlife requires that all captive Desert Tortoises be permitted (a process we’d be happy to help you with) 🐢🌵We love you Bitzy!!!

🐢This is Lumpy, aptly named by our founder’s 5yr old daughter! Lumpy came to Living Rocks Tortoise Rescue in Sept. 2019. 🐢We know nothing about her history but clearly, her previous owner(s) did not properly care for her. She has a mildly soft shell and shell pyramiding and concaving, effects from Metabolic Bone Disease. The first day we had Lumpy we noticed a wheeze and bubbles coming from her nose. It was clear she had an upper respiratory infection. The next day she was at the Vet, where we also found that she had intestinal parasites and a large bladder stone. Swipe ➡️ to 2nd pic for x-ray of the Bladder Stone 😳😢. Lumpy is a very unfortunate example of why it is SO IMPORTANT to do thorough research on the kind of tortoise you want and make sure you know and are able to meet their husbandry and diet needs before you welcome them into your home. Despite all of Lumpy’s health issues, it does not slow her down one bit! She loves to cruise around and chow down on all the dandelion flowers she can find! Lumpy has now completed her course of anabiotic’s and a round of de-worming. She is now on the long road to recovery but is soaking up all the sunlight Sonoma County has to offer! With her voracious appetite. She is enjoying a wide range of healthy hays, grasses, wildflowers and veggies. Lumpy is not available for adoption. She is one of our Tortoise Ambassadors that we use for our educational events. 🐢If you would like to help support Living Rocks Tortoise Rescue and the tortoises here, like Lumpy, go to our website, at the bottom of the page click the ‘donatiom’ button. 100% of all donations received go directly to the care of our tortoises. @ Petaluma, California
