Hounds in Homes At Hounds in Homes, we rescue greyhounds & provide loving foster homes where they can rehabilitate & adjust to life as pets.

Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to ensure each greyhound is treated as a family until they find their forever homes. REHOMING NUMBER R251000253

WHO WE ARE
Welcome to "Hounds in Homes" a rehoming and rescue of ex-racing greyhounds and some sighthounds. As volunteers at a previous rescue and re-homing many wonderful ex-racing greyhounds, it's now time for us to expand and create a breed-sp

ecific platform for potential foster carers, adopters and enthusiasts to connect. We have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this special breed. Based in Sydney, we have a wonderful team of advisors, owners and dog trainers from around the globe. All of our greyhounds are ex-racing dogs who have been slowly introduced to life in the home. They have been rehabilitated, nurtured and most of all loved! We rely solely on donations to support our carers and seek specialised veterinary care for more complex medical issues not covered by GRNSW. We also like to provide our foster carers with support by providing Behaviour training, when needed. All donations are truly appreciated, making our jobs so much easier to bring more greyhounds into homes. You can donate either via GoFundme OR via direct deposit. Hounds in Homes

Hi, I’m Mavis, a 4-year-old greyhound with a heart full of love and a zest for life! I’m always ready for some quality time with my humans, soaking up all the love and attention you have to offer. I absolutely adore my daily walks—twice a day, please! I’m a social butterfly and love meeting new furry friends during my outings, especially if they’re medium to large dogs who can keep up with my playful energy.

I’ve had great experiences with kids of all ages, but because I can get pretty excited, I might be a better fit for a home with older children who can enjoy my lively spirit. I’m happy to be left alone during the day as long as I’ve had my walk and have some toys to keep me entertained until you’re back.

Stay hydrated everyone!

What are you giving your hounds to cool off?

We cannot thank our amazing greyhound community enough for your generous donations. Fundraising can be fun, but it often involves significant expenses and time away from our families and pets. Our vet bills had begun to pile up again, and things were becoming quite stressful.

Thanks to your support, our funds tracker is looking much better now! We will provide more updates as we get back on track with our rescue efforts.

Thank you once again for your incredible kindness!

A Bit About Me
Hi there! My name is Pepper, and I’m a 7-year-old brindle beauty with a heart as warm as my coat. I’ve been living with two other greyhounds, and I love nothing more than snuggling up with them at night. I’m easy-going and laid-back, so I’ll fit in perfectly with most families, especially if your home is quiet and relaxed—just like me!

When it comes to walks, I’m happy to trot along and enjoy the fresh air. I’m good around other dogs, though I haven’t met many smaller breeds. I get along just fine with medium to large dogs, so a furry friend my size would be great.

I should mention that I’ve got a corn on one of my paws that’s being assessed and treated. I’m rocking my little booties and getting used to them while we sort it out. Don’t worry—we can chat about how to manage it in the future to keep me comfortable and happy.

We urgently need your help to support our rescue efforts. Our latest, HIH gal Pepper, was injured by another dog while in her foster home, and her medical care will require additional funding. Also beautiful Winter, had a terrible accident. Unfortunately, we haven't had any adoptions recently, so we’re reaching out for your support. Every donation helps us provide care for our greyhounds and ensure they all find loving homes.

Call out for a foster carer for our boy Buster!

I’ve been living as an only dog in an apartment, and I’ve been loving it - soaking up all the attention from my carers.

I adore the company of my carers and like to be involved in whatever they’re doing. I’m toilet trained and have never had an accident. My carers work from home, so I’ve only been left by myself for a few hours at a time without any issues. With time, I believe I can manage longer periods alone, especially if I have access to a yard to go to the bathroom. Ideally, my new family would be home more often than not, so we can spend lots of time together.

I love toys and morning cuddles in bed. When we go for walks, I wear a harness because I sometimes pull and am quite strong. But I’m a quick learner—I mastered the three flights of stairs to the apartment in just a few days (though I initially had to be carried).

I must be an only dog at home, and I am not suitable for dog parks.

I’m not destructive at all, but I do like to “rearrange” the couch cushions and blankets for my comfort. I haven’t been tested with cats and am an inside dog. I wouldn’t recommend living with small children because I sometimes forget my size.

Foster Home Urgently Required for Buster - Beautiful Boy with Resource Guarding Issues (Not with people)

Buster is a beautiful boy, age 4 years old. He does require an only dog home due to his resource guarding toys/food.

This is URGENT as he cannot be in an home with other dogs.

He is fine in an apartment but would love a garden.

Please call 04 2257 0822 if you can help.

With adoptions almost ground to a hault, we are pretty desperate. He deserves a wonderful home.

Greyhound experience preferred.

If anyone can join our foster team, please get in touch.

As the founder of Hounds in Homes, I find it difficult to consider taking a break from my work.

If I did, adopting a rescue greyhound would be an instantaneous decision for me, as I cannot imagine my home without one.

The additional challenges we face within the rescue world, have made our work even harder and it’s been very difficult to navigate.

This post serves as a reflection on my own fostering experience, I have a phone full of beautiful photos of all the fosters who have passed through and I would love to share some of the wonderful memories with you.

Hounds in Homes will still be around but we definitely need to reassess where we are situated and how we move forward.

We would love to hear from you all!

Jax, formerly known as Jack, was rehomed by his trainer to a family with cats, a bird, and a small dog. Although he got along with the dog, he had issues with the cats. His behavior put both him and the other pets at risk.

Jax has also been diagnosed with symmetrical lupoid onchodystrophy, which explained his nail problems.

He is still undergoing testing for his thyroid, but so far, so good! He seems to be adjusting well to his new home and is pain-free, finally.

We love receiving updates on this gorgeous boy!

Greyhounds, like many dogs, can develop sensitive or sore areas, and their ears are particularly vulnerable. If your normally chilled Greyhound almost snapped at you when you touched their ears, they're likely experiencing discomfort or pain. Ear infections, mites, or even general sensitivity can cause dogs to react defensively when those areas are handled.

It's important to approach the situation cautiously. If you notice signs like head shaking, redness, or a bad odor, it could be an ear issue that needs veterinary attention. Always observe your dog’s body language; if they seem uncomfortable, avoid touching the sore area until it’s checked out. In the meantime, using a gentle voice and slow, careful movements can help reassure them.

Great article here:

Ear care is a critical aspect of maintaining the overall health of Greyhounds. These athletic dogs are known for their speed and elegance, but they are just

Winter update: Her leg is healing well! It's been a challenge keeping her calm, though, as she loves fun and games.

Dougie likes her, but she can be a bit of a boss she, for him 😂

Dougie is usually Mr. Cool until the leash rattles, and then he becomes a madman. Both have struggled due to injuries and other dogs staying here, but things will be back to normal on Thursday, when the real work begins, especially for Winter, who is one smart cookie!

We have been doing lots of training on her mat, she must have learnt quite allot at the pound.

Dougie is ready for adoption, he is a sweet boy who has been learning to like other breeds, not sure if he realises Winter isn’t a greyhound 😂

It's official, Cora's foster carers have 'foster failed,' which is no surprise to us.

Cora needed some puppy energy loving parents who love to train their hounds since she is a fast learner and soaks up all her praise and rewards.

We love you Cora girl, happy life sweet darling 🐾

Just one more of our perfect brindle girls to find their forever homes, Mavis has been nothing but amazing but still no enquiries.
