WHO WE ARE
Welcome to "Hounds in Homes" a rehoming and rescue of ex-racing greyhounds and some sighthounds. As volunteers at a previous rescue and re-homing many wonderful ex-racing greyhounds, it's now time for us to expand and create a breed-sp

ecific platform for potential foster carers, adopters and enthusiasts to connect. We have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this special breed. Based in Sydney, we have a wonderful team of advisors, owners and dog trainers from around the globe. All of our greyhounds are ex-racing dogs who have been slowly introduced to life in the home. They have been rehabilitated, nurtured and most of all loved! We rely solely on donations to support our carers and seek specialised veterinary care for more complex medical issues not covered by GRNSW. We also like to provide our foster carers with support by providing Behaviour training, when needed. All donations are truly appreciated, making our jobs so much easier to bring more greyhounds into homes. You can donate either via GoFundme OR via direct deposit. Hounds in Homes

🐾 Ever wonder why we started Hounds in Homes? 🐾

It’s been a long journey — full of learning, mistakes, growth, and finding our voice. In 2021, we created Hounds in Homes to stand apart from industry-backed groups.

We’ve just published a short piece about our story—where we came from, what we believe in, and why we do things differently.

💛 If you're part of our journey or curious about what makes us tick, this one’s for you.

Do you have: ✔️ A quiet, safe environment.
✔️ Time and patience to help one of our newer greyhounds settle.
✔️ A willingness to learn and be supported by our team.

…you could make a life-changing difference.

We supply all essentials and full support — you supply the love. 🖤

📩 Please get in touch ASAP if you can help, or share this with someone who might.
Together, we can make sure greyhounds get the gentle landing they deserve and set standards high for the future of rehoming.

No big funding. Just big hearts and ethical care.

Phone dropped in the ocean, taking pics of the dogs. We need two-factor authentication to retrieve text messages and calls, but the phone is wrecked, and it was an AGL E-sim (Long story, but what a nightmare getting a new sim has been). Look at our poster girl Hani – a true survivor and symbol of resilience.

Hani suffered an unimaginable injury that led to the loss of her leg. But despite everything, she never lost her gentle spirit or her will to live a life full of love and dignity.

Today, she stands strong – not just on three legs, but with a heart that inspires everyone who meets her.

Here she is with Senator Nick McKim from the Greens, a dedicated advocate against animal cruelty and a voice for animals like Hani.

Hani’s story is a powerful reminder of why we fight for change.

Three legs, one beautiful soul – and a future worth protecting.

Rommy’s latest obsession? Anything with wheels. If it moves, he’s in. Vans are his true love, but he won’t say no to a car, bus, or even a removal truck. Honestly starting to think he just wants to join a courier service. Anyone else got a transport-mad hound?

This is him with his dog walker and pet sitter 😂

Remember Peanut?

Her owner was frantic looking for a new home for her. We stepped in to help monitor applications and not allow Peanut to enter the “Merry go round” and “rehoming crisis”

Here she is, what a wonderful and happy ending! Peanut’s owner can now move in to her retirement village knowing that peanut will be loved and cared for by her wonderful new owners.

We are all so happy for everyone especially Peanut, Paige and Jason, both animal lovers and very special guardians.

Happy life beautiful Peanut, we look forward to receiving many more updates.

Another hound gently moved on to newer adventures.

We can see in Winters eyes that she is loving having Memphis. He is a little all over the place on walks at the moment, but he will get there.

Absolutely deserving of her very own Brother to nurture and love.

So lovely to receive this sweet pic of beautiful Maggie, who was adopted in Canberra 3 years ago.

Maggie has a little grey muzzle now but still looks the same, such a gorgeous girl!

She loved her toys so much! So we know how precious that bear would be to her ❤️

Both Maggie and Duke (Besties) moved on to beautiful loving homes after sharing their foster journey together.

This story is very sad. If anyone can step in to help Benny age 6 years old.

He is at the end of the line now, with the owner not able to take care of him.

Back story, adopted in April 2023 from one of the GAP adoption days. Although at first he was perfect, with his bigger home and garden, things changed after a move to a smaller home in a main/busy road. Benny is struggling.

He has apparently been fine at the owners friends/pet sitters house with no dramas. This is all we know and all we have been told.

It seems that the smaller space has caused some resource guarding, or in our own words desperate attempts to request the needing of space when resting/sleeping.

- We would say a home as the only greyhound until new experienced owner can make their own assessments.

- No apartments (Obviously as his space has reduced in size he is struggling)

- Benny does have some seperation anxieties, more so now so a home with someone home, who can work with him would be best.

We were asked if we could take him, but we don’t have the support network or carers to help this boy.

If you are in a position to help him, we are happy to oversee potential homes as we did with Peanut.
