🐴 SANCTUARY UNDER WATER
Fall and winter. It's always the worst part of the year for my heart. While we have made great progress on the new shelters, there are two that desperately need upgrades. While Shonee and Liebchen have A very well drained pasture which allows them to get safe exercise during the muddy fall and winter months, their stall continues to fill with water. I have the barrier to put down so we can get gravel in there but we need gravel.
I will be having back surgery on the 18th of this month. I have been putting that off for almost a year and I just have to get it done before more damage is done. I have about two weeks to finish this project.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
We want to order from Kitsap Topsoil as they are the closest.
We need to raise $700.00 for 12 yards. The other repairs and upgrades I can get figured out.
Winter donations mean the most as this is the hardest season to keep Happy and healthy horses... especially senior horses. The winters are hard on them.
No amount is ever too small as we are trying to keep up with everything.
We still need Timothy pellets and triple crown senior for Tawa, Whiskey, Breeze, Charlie, Shonnee, Liebchen, Dee and Tziuni.

Back in 2009 we started a rescue Project Buddy Alumni where we rescued 200+ dogs in just 6 years. We took in a lot of hard cases, rehabilitated, and rehomed. This was Ryker. Not only did this poor guy have demodex mange and kennel cough but he had parvo as well. With round the clock care from his foster, vet care, and a holistic approach to treat parvo he survived. Odds were against him but he bloomed into an amazing dog and eventually found his family. I often think about the dogs from PBR and I am sure most have since passed. But they truly made a huge impact on me and took a little piece of my heart with every goodbye.

The things I learned because of them was a true gift.

When the vet got here Thursday they wanted his blanket off. It wasn't raining but I just didn't want to take it off. I am not sure why but perhaps it was because I knew that was going to be it. That somehow the blanket kept him here...it was letting go.

Last night in the clearest form he stood in my dream and I began to fasten his blanket back on.

♥️I miss you old man. You Wild Red horse.

Beautiful hawk in the lower pasture this evening. Hopefully helping with the mice control. 🙏❤️

Grief is the last act of love we give to those we love.
Days like today remind me that my heart is in it. Like many...I fear letting go. Gathering courage to make that appointment. Facing the sunrise the morning of. Holding strong as they drift to sleep....."You are a good boy/girl" is spoken into their ear. Running my hands over their eyes, ears, cheeks as if I am downloading a map of their face to my memory. So when I get to heaven and my hands touch their face once more it will reload all our memories...like some sort of time capsule software.

Providing end of life care for senior animals is where my heart is. It's what I was sent here to do.

Just like that his spirit was free.
He was our Wild Red...a big horse with an even bigger soul.
The herd one by one ran circles around his now empty vessel. For he is now the wind beneath their hooves.

We love you Redman. Forever.

Thank you Sound Equine Veterinary Hospital and Dr Adams for helping us send him off. We appreciate your love and kindness.
