Believe it or not, there's a Black Mottled Satin Pullet from Velveteen Bostons & Feather Friends under all of that plumage 🐔

Its giving crow of the chicken world. It's giving phoenix. Its giving Scuttle from the Little Mermaid after using a dinglehopper🍴(hence the name)

Meet Hank.
Hank finally made his way to his forever home with Jes & Phil today! Jes requested an albino white bunny as an homage to a pet she had as a child. I held out until the perfect white rabbit came along to finally be able to create her a custom piece. When I got my hands on Hank, I knew exactly where he belonged.
Hank is a Holland Lop that came from a local bunny breeder that unfortunately failed to thrive. No harm is ever done to any animal I work with.

Remember Biscuit? This sweet little bunny was originally mounted on a simple raw edge wood base. My customer asked if I'd be able to re-mount Biscuit in a dome with botanicals and add a butterfly and I was happy to accept the challenge! I included local moss, flowers and mushrooms to help Biscuit compliment her other pieces.

Sometimes, the world feels so small -- in a good way! I recently had a custom order consultation at and ran into the manager who is a customer of mine from my previous job. We got to chatting about what I'm up to these days and the conversation ended with a custom order for his wife for Christmas! I'm so grateful to have gotten to do this special piece for him and I know it has a very special meaning to her and that's what makes all the hard work worth it 🥰

Here's some great information why I do not work with bats 🦇This can also be seen with ducklings and snakes some others buy in bulk.

Do research with who you're buying your nature art, taxidermy and oddities from and where they're sourcing their specimens. You can learn where I source all of my specimens on my website here > https://www.southerncuriosities.com/faq

Update: PLEASE do not feel internalize fault or guilt for owning a specimen already. Many of the time there is a lie by the seller claiming ethical sourcing. Sometimes it goes even further up the chain where the truth is known.

Don’t dogpile small sellers who are reselling, rather encourage them to question everything about where they are truly coming from. It is highly likely a small artist might not have that knowledge.

This post is to educate people who aren’t aware of how poaching can be quietly done as it pertains to bats. However bats are not the only species that falls victim to quiet poaching. Always treat wet and dry specimens with the same caution as they’re incredibly easily to import unethically.

If you are still with a sour taste in your mouth I would always recommend batcon.org to be a great organization to make donations to relating to bat conservation. 🦇

Time flies—literally! 🦋 This custom order is set inside of an upcycled clock and features a local Giant Eastern Swallowtail with steampunk-inspired gears. This unique project is a little outside my wheelhouse (pun intended).

When you fill out my custom order form, we will have a full consultation to collaborate on a unique and one-of-a-kind piece specially made for *you*. This request was for a butterfly she found and wanted it in a copper clock with gears and a steampunk vibe with a black background. If a budget wasn't an issue and you could have me create *any* piece for you, what would your requests be??

2024 was my year of "Yes". Yes to new opportunities, yes to things that I was afraid to do, yes to growth. I took on new projects that I never thought I'd be doing and learned a lot. I rebranded with a fresh logo. I did my first podcast as well as multiple TV interviews. I also taught my first pinning class! It was an absolutely incredible year both for my business and me personally. I cannot wait for what 2025 has in store! Thank you so much to everyone who has made this year so special -- I couldn't have done it without you all 🩷✨️

Back story: My nephew is absolutely *obsessed* with and his Becorns -- he got one of his calendars for Xmas and he wanted to take photos like him so my parents got him his first camera and I created him his very own acorn man! This was created with nothing but the utmost respect for David Bird and his incredible artistry! This is not something I will recreate or intend to carry -- it was made special just for my nephew.

Now that this has been gifted, I can finally share this "shrunken head" that we made for my brother for Xmas! The head is 3D-printed in resin by my talented husband .tattoos, while I hand-painted it and added all of the finishing details -- though not for sale and not part of my usual collection, I really had a lot of fun creating this piece for him. NGL, in the dark, it really creeped me out 😬
Can anyone name where this head is originally from?
