Update 2:
Talked to the vet this morning. Raina is doing so well that she is being discharged home this afternoon!! The cherry on top is she can still continue to nurse her babies☺️. They will be so happy to have their mama back! Stay tuned for homecoming pics…

Update: I was able to visit Raina today for a short time. She continues to recover and is doing well. She was very happy to see her mama and perked up while I was there. This girl is such a fighter!

Part 2…
The decision was made to go ahead, do the surgery and give her a fighting chance. Surgery was then scheduled for first thing the next morning. One of the hardest things I’ve done was leaving my beautiful girl for the night not knowing if it would be the last time I ever saw her again.
The next morning after a final consult with the vet she went in for surgery. All I could do was sit and wait for word of the outcome. After what seemed like forever, which was actually only 2 hours I get the call. She had made it out of surgery and was stable!!! After the surgeon was able to get in there and see exactly what the damage was they ended up only having to remove 1 lobe of her lung instead of the whole thing! Although this increased her chances of survival she was not completely out of the woods yet. Only time would tell.
I am so pleased to say as of today she is doing very well. They were able to remove her chest tube and are hopeful they can take her out of her oxygen kennel by this evening. If everything continues to go well we should be able to finally be discharged and home by Wednesday ☺️. Lucien is anxious for us all to be home lol. I will update everyone as soon as I can.
I’m sure most of you are wondering “what about the babies during all this?”. Never fear they are healthy and doing very well. Took a bit to adjust from nursing on mom to being bottle fed but they’ve finally got it down and are gaining weight daily. I will post a few pics of Raina as she recovers and some of the puppies as well🥰

Good evening everyone! I apologize for not posting the last few days. It’s been a rough ride thus far. Buckle up cause this is gonna be a bumpy ride. This will be a 2 part post so stay tuned.
Last Thursday afternoon I took Raina into the emergency vet at Healing Hands thinking she just had a case of mastitis. Doc and I agreed to add a second antibiotic to combat a possible secondary infection and went home to recoup. By that evening she wasn’t looking good and seemed to be going downhill.
The following morning she clearly appeared to be worse and was starting to have very labored breathing. We rushed back to the emergency vet where the they could look her over and run some tests. Little did we know this would be the start of a 3 day nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
X-ray and ultrasound revealed she had massive fluid in her right lung. They were able to drain the fluid but were unsure as to why it was there and what else was going on. The decision was made to transfer her urgently to West Vet emergency hospital in Boise. So off we go with puppies in tow.
After arriving they immediately took her back for an exam and more tests. Results were devastating. Her right lung had flipped and was preventing her from breathing. I was then faced with the decision of having to have her lung completely removed to give her a slim chance of survival or to have her put to sleep💔.

Well after a very rough and emotional night last night I’m happy to announce the birth of Lucien and Raina’s babies. Babies came into this world at 9:30 PM last night. Although unfortunately we did lose one puppy I am so beyond grateful for the health and safety of Reina and her two little babies, a boy who looks just like mama and a girl who is the spitting image of her dad. Huge thank you to Dr Green and staff at Sawtooth Veterinary Services for taking the time to see us after hours and for taking such good care of my babies. I will post updates and pics as to their progress and journey into this new life💕
