I guess you could look at the beginning of our story as either happy or sad.
My name is Lisa, I live on a family owned farm with my husband and our 14-year-old son on the central coast of California.
In March of this year( 2019 )on our way to town my son and I found a little white puppy hiding in the tall damp grass on our property. It appeared he had been dumped, he was very scared, when I got out of the car to get him he hid, but after calling to him for a few moments he came out and I was able to grab him and take him to the car. He was shaking, he was a little cold, and a little wet and looked very scared, I put his age at 8 to 10 weeks, his breed, terrier mix, so sad people do things like that, how could you dump a little dog, or any creature in that manner.
Now within a few minutes of having him my son had named him Duck, as I had no intention of keeping him I didn’t protest a name I wasn’t that fond of.
Honestly I figured I would have him vaccinated, neutered and then find him a good home. We already had four dogs, all girl dogs, I had no interest in a little boy dog, with extremely course wiry hair, shedding white hair!
Oh well, best laid plans are not always the way things turn out, plan B can be just as good!
Plan B- we fell in love, with his charm, he’s a sweet, loving, smilie guy, pure forward motion in a compact package, he’s sturdy, strong, and terrier smart!
So add a funny thing that happened after he was neutered, lol, after the ten days that he had to wear a (cone of shame), I took it off to find one of his ears was standing up (when I took him to the vet both ears were down)!
Not sure what happened but it just made him more enduring to us!
Fast forward to today (November 2019), Duck the Dog has been an inspiration to our family and all that meet him, he wakes everyday with a smile and his springy little trotting gate, and as a result of his presence lots of dog toys, beds, clothes etc have found their way to our home.
I realized after my many years of training ( I trained horses for 20 yrs, I also taught puppy raising, obedience and problem solving), and having pets that I was a good judge (IMO) of quality products, and I enjoyed shopping for them, also I am frequently asked by friends to help pick out what was a good fit for them and their pets.
I retired from training when I had my son at 41 yrs old, I was told I couldn’t get pregnant so you can imagine our surprise when we found out we were!
I decided to be a stay at home mom, and for the last fourteen years I’ve done just that, PTA, science fairs, field trips, Birthday parties have been my life, but as my son has become more independent I found myself with no direction in my day.
Thinking about what I could do to be more productive while still enjoying the things I loved lead to me deciding to open an online pet store.
And as two heads are better than one I asked my bestie Anna to join me in this new venture, and happily she came on board.
That’s our story for now...we look forward to many more chapters, and serving you the best content and products is our goal.
Ps. Coming soon- Duck the Little Farm Dog children’s books!
