🏠 Provides a secure, moist hiding place
🐍 Helps to prevent stress and aids the shedding process
🥚 Provides an ideal egg-laying site
🌡 Reduces extreme temperature and moisture fluctuations
🌄Creates more 3-dimensional dwelling space
🧹 Removable lid allows easy access

Without a proper hide and sleeping area, reptiles can easily develop stress that may affect their well-being and appetite. The Exo Terra® Big Rock offers your reptiles, amphibians or invertebrates a secure place to hide and sleep, while the moist microclimate will support thermo-regulation, hydration, and aid the natural shedding process of reptiles.

The unique hygroscopic properties of the ceramic material regulate the hide’s humidity and temperature in a natural way by absorbing and slowly releasing moisture from the water reservoir. Adequate air humidity levels create a healthy environment and help prevent respiratory infections.

This eco-friendly ceramic hide can be easily integrated into any type of terrarium, and by simply adding moistened Exo Terra® Forest Moss or Sphagnum Moss, the hide provides an ideal egg-laying site for various species. The removable lid allows easy access to check on your reptiles or to remove an egg clutch for incubating purposes.
The Big Rock water reservoir should be filled with water at all times to assure that the microclimate retains optimal temperature and humidity levels for your animals (and their eggs).

Reptiles are ectotherm, and use heat from an external source to thermoregulate their optimal body temperature. Most reptiles use direct radiant heat from the sun in combination with conductive heat from sun-heated surfaces such as branches, rocks or other heat accumulating structures. Next to heat, overall humidity is a very important factor for the health and wellbeing of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Providing such a species related temperature gradient, in combination with appropriate humidity levels, in the terrarium is an important factor in successful reptile and amphibian keeping.

The Exo Terra® Monsoon Solo II and Multi II are programmable misting systems suitable for all types of terrariums and greenhouses. They help maintain optimal humidity by generating a fine mist at programmed intervals, the duration and frequency of which can be easily adjusted depending on the type of animal or plant housed. Frequent misting helps stimulate breeding behaviour, and is a necessity when housing live tropical plants such as Bromeliads, orchids, mosses, etc. The systems can be programmed to mist multiple times per 24-hour cycle, with spray durations ranging from 2 seconds up to 2 minutes. The reservoir ensures continuous operation for several days without the need for refilling (ideal for vacations!), and can be easily replenished without needing to uninstall the entire system.

The Exo Terra Stone Desert mimics the natural soil found in arid regions, like deserts or savannahs. Most desert soils are not purely sand-based but rather a combination of sand, decomposed granite and clay resulting in interesting and sometimes colourful rock formations. Exo Terra’s Stone Desert allows you to create your own desert or savannah landscape, including cool-humid burrows as well as warmer elevated basking areas.

With 3 different colours to match different landscapes, Stone Desert is perfect for recreating an arid environment inside your terrarium!

The Ukinga hornless chameleon or Trioceros incornutus is a small to medium-sized chameleon that can grow up to 20 cm or 8". This species inhabits bushes in montane rainforests of the Ukinga, Rungwe, and the Poroto mountain ranges of Tanzania. You can see its large occipital lobes and a low dorsal crest, partially composed of relatively widely spaced sharply spinose scales. The specific epithet "incornutus" (hornless) of the scientific name refers to the lack of horns for both sexes of this species.

Grass snakes are proficient swimmers and are often found near freshwater, although some specimens have been observed not to need bodies of water throughout the entire season. They actively hunt for prey, using their sight and sense of smell, and are known to consume their prey without using constriction.

Today is International Day for Biological Diversity!

The Tropical Climbing Salamanders belong to the Bolitoglossa genus and exhibit unique behavior for salamanders - they have fully webbed feet and prehensile tails that allow them to navigate through vegetation easily. These traits enable them to thrive in their leafy habitats: low vegetation, close to the forest floor in the lush rainforests of Central and South America.

🤩 Paludariums combine the best of two worlds! With a bottom part that has an extra high front bottom glass, they provide a higher water level and an increased water volume compared to common terrariums. This enables you to incorporate a substantial water part or aquarium section which allows you to keep aquatic animals and plants adjacent to the land or terrarium section.

💪 Part of the aquatic section can consist of a false bottom to support the land section, accommodate and hide the aquatic appliances like filters, pumps and water heaters and can double as a biological filtration media. Guide the water from the filter pump through your terrarium along a background with live plants and moss, or by creating waterfalls that gradually drop the water back into to the water basin. Waterfalls add aesthetic appeal and will help oxygenate and biologically filter the water, while live plants and moss will contribute to the filtration capacities of your terrarium. This type of setup allows you to create an effective filtration system, mirroring the process of natural biological filtration. A fully functioning paludarium will provide a constant source of clean water, imperative to keep semi-aquatic species. It's like creating your own small, closed ecosystem at home!
