REPOST: Support in Letter Writing to Women Prisoners this Sunday with Samidoun Seattle 📨

Join us at Cal Anderson Park near the Farmer’s Market 12pm - 3pm (drop in any time) to write letters to Palestinian prisoners incarcerated by the Zionist occupation. Given META repression of the Palestine movement and Samidoun, our Instagram and FB accounts have been taken down. Spread the word for this event and follow us on Telegram!

In response to the call to make August 3rd, the 300th day of the ongoing siege on Gaza, International Day of Action for Gaza and the Prisoners, we hope to come together in solidarity with the prisoners’ struggle. Zionist prisons are known for torture, starvation, and abuse, and used by occupation forces in futile attempts to break the Palestinian spirit and the resistance, but the Palestinian Prisoners’ Movement remains on the frontline of the liberation struggle.

No experience needed - bring yourself, friends, comrades, and your belief that we will soon win a Free Palestine.

Long live the Palestinian Resistance and Free Palestine!

Invitation for New Holly Garden Day TODAY from approx 1-4PM per usual; at 2PM we will join the call from for a national day of mourning for Sonya Massey and hold vigil and sharing circle while we tend the garden together to make space for collective processing and dialogue. Please dress appropriately for the weather, bring water and snacks for yourself and to share if you’d like. Hand tools, gardening gloves, and a bag to bring home harvest are all helpful but not a barrier for attending! Today will be different as we will collectively hold space for Sonya Massey at 2PM.

Rest in Power to Sonya Massey. Cops don’t keep anyone safe, least of all Black and Brown and poor people living with neurodivergence as a result of this exploitative capitalistic world. The horrifying murder of Sonya Massey, Daniel Prude, Walter Wallace Jr., Janisha Fonville, and countless others, in their homes, in front of their mothers, babies, and partners, shows that the police system cannot and will not ever be reformed. Organizing towards the abolition of the police state and the total overturn of this imperialist global order is the ONLY way we will be able to achieve liberation for all of us.

This is why we call for - not here in Lacey, WA, not in the West Side of Chicago, not in the Weelaunee Forest in Atlanta, and NOT IN PALESTINE.

From movie (showing tonight at 7:30PM in New Holly (outdoors) or on Friday with ): “The majority [of us] have been pleading for investments in education, employment, housing, mental health clinics, and y’all have thrown at us a $95 million police academy that will do nothing for the community of Garfield Park. You are implementing a thing that is going to continue [to] over-criminalize Black folks.”

Through the film, the youth organizers of and Mariame Kaba call all of us to action - what we will do now? Will we organize our communities to fight? Will we refuse the apathy that overwhelms the need for more of us to be engaged in struggle?

We look forward to the discussion tonight.

On July 24 at 7:30PM at New Holly Rockery Market Garden, we will host a screening of No Cop Academy, a documentary about Black youth and other youth of color organizers in Chicago mobilizing against Rahm Emanuel’s plans to spend $95 million dollar for a massive training center for Chicago police on the city’s West Side. The campaign composed of 104 organizations, refused any expansion of policing in Chicago, and demanded that the city fund youth and communities instead.

This one-hour documentary chronicles the explosive campaign through first hand experiences. Fund Communities! Abolish the Police! From Seattle to Chicago to Atlanta, to Haiti, Congo, Sudan and a FREE PALESTINE!

There will be a panel discussion after the film with the directors from 🔥

Content warning for visuals and discussion of police violence.

English & Spanish captions available.

Please test for COVID prior to coming to the screening. We will be outdoors, masking is nevertheless always encouraged. If you have any sick symptoms, please stay home!

is also hosting a screening on Friday July 26th at Washington Hall!

Join us this Sunday June 9th 12:30-4:30PM as we continue to tend to our Milpa planting. We will deepen into our learning about intercropping and water conservation methods. These will be increasingly important skills to cultivate as we navigate ongoing climate crisis.

As we reflect on the interconnected relationships of the corn, beans, and squash sisters, we will also discuss the interconnectedness of our roles for social change within our human ecosystems as well as the interconnectedness of our local struggles to the struggles for liberation across the globe.

What role do you play in social change? Are you a builder? A storyteller? A nurturer? All roles are needed.

Chef Carmen will be preparing a delicious meal! Snacks or drinks to share are always welcome. Please bring a water bottle and check on the weather. Hand tools & garden gloves are helpful to bring if you have them!

We are also excited to celebrate .revolution Resiliency Laboratory students for the completion of the community shed! We will open the floor for them to reflect on their experiences around 1PM.

we were blessed with sun at our may gathering 😎
and also bc of the sun + our watering system needing repair… we chose not to transplant our milpa babies in the early may heat.

instead, we engaged in dialogue and learning about la milpa, why this method of interplanting is beneficial for the plants and the soil, and all the different planting patterns practiced by various Indigenous peoples from the Wampanoag to the Maya people in Mesoamerica.

have you planted a milpa garden before? what methods/patterns did you use, and what were the results?

our collective altar to honor our mothers, from the mothers and mother figures in our own lives to the mothers in Palestine, Haiti, Congo, Sudan, the Philippines, and all over the world. grief & hope, held together amongst the mugwort.

what can we learn from our mothers?
from our ultimate mother, earth.
nourishing us despite the neglect, the destruction.
the definition of unconditional love.

the altar feels at home amongst the mugwort in the corner of the new holly garden. mugwort is a powerful medicinal herb and sacred plant in many indigenous cultures. mugwort invites us into deeper consciousness and is often used to assist in times of grief and death, as well as birth and healing.

have you worked with mugwort before? what is your favorite way to engage with this powerful healer?

currently, I am using mugwort topically in infused oil to help with lower back pain after giving birth and mugwort root decoction in a bath tea. along with other anti-inflammatory herbs like chamomile, calendula, and yarrow, mugwort has helped me avoid breast engorgement. ~steph

we were blessed with some early sun for our April gathering & we and all our solanaceae are looking forward to a little early heat this weekend 🥵

in april we welcomed the Four Directions and shared stories of our connection to the plant world.

we transplanted starts and experimented with different growing techniques. in one half of the beds, we did a standard planting method, and in the other half, we encouraged folks to experiment with new techniques!

tending the land is a constant learning journey, encouraging us to study our process and engage in praxis - action and reflection - throughout the season and from year to year. and when we learn to tend the land, we learn how to better tend to our communities.

slide 2 - we used excess seed saved from prior seasons to create a seed mural. once complete it will be set in resin 🤩 keep posted for the reveal 👀

what spring seeds have you planted so far?

A word from the BLMG collective as we mourn the loss of the physical garden. This is just the beginning.

Updated weekly schedule coming soon. Intention to continue mutual aid events and gatherings in the park as usual. The garden lives on 🌱

If you were present for the destruction of the garden yesterday, or if you have a deep connection to the garden in some way, please DM any photos, videos, quotes, or stories that you’re down to share. This garden was not built and maintained by any one person and is not represented by any one single voice; we want to share about the collective work that has kept the garden thriving for the last three years.

If only we could simply enjoy views like these when we’re on the ground in the mornings. But no, we - the BLMG community - are consistently threatened with state violence thru inhumane and debilitating sweeps during cold, wet, winter weather. End winter sweeps! End sweeps period - all people deserve to have their basic needs met PERIOD - not given the smallest access as a stipulation for accepting the most menial of services this city has to offer.

Over 15,000 Palestinians have been killed since Oct 7 - over 6,000 children and 4,000 women. At least 36,000 additional people are injured, 75% are women and children.

How SHAMEFUL that this ongoing genocide is being funded by our government and corporations, by our votes and our dollars.

We stand with Palestine in demanding an end to the violent occupation by the Israeli government and military forces and an end to the genocide.

No child, no family, no HUMAN should be subject to this level of dehumanization, cruelty, and endless violence.

On Friday - while much of America frenzied in material gluttony - we gathered in solidarity and protest in the garden to create coffin props for the weekly march hosted by

So much heaviness in our hearts and minds as we built these pieces, but grateful to be creating together in resistance of these violent capitalist systems with such a dedicated and caring community.

This Friday! NO shopping while bombs are dropping. We’ll be in the garden making props to support the Saturday protest for a free Palestine on 11/25 at 2PM @ Westlake. Organizers requested that people bring child size coffins to leave in front of the federal building in protest of the over 5,000 children martyred in Palestine.

We will be supplying as many materials as we can source, but please bring your own additional materials that you can and anything to share as well.

Update from the sweeps on Nov 14 & 15. Please see and for additional accounts about this despicable action by the city. An additional point to share: The city swept encampments in three places (that we know of) on Wednesday knowing there were only 4 tiny homes available. At Cal Anderson, residents were given ONE HOUR notice. SPR Field Coordinator Kareem and two others were escorted by 16 cops, including one lieutenant. We condemn this continued violence against unhoused people across the city and demand a ban on extreme weather sweeps!
