Planning for Peas
Peas are usually ready 10 to 12 weeks after sowing. If the weather where you live will be cool about 70 to 80 days from now, sow round-seeded peas now (round-seeded peas are more cold-hardy than wrinkled-seeded peas). In mild-winter regions, peas can be sown until late fall. For a big yield, plant peas 6 inches (15cm) apart on opposite sides of a trellis or fence or broadcast seeds 4 inches (10cm) apart in a wide band; the plants will hold each other up. Bush peas for autumn, try: ‘Maestro’, ‘Novella’, ‘Oregon Trail’, ‘Top Pod’, or ‘Knight’. Bush peas for autumn, try: ‘Maestro’, ‘Novella’, ‘Oregon Trail’, ‘Top Pod’, or ‘Knight’.
