So I’m a day late, but October 27th is National black cat day… and this little madam needs a home. We’ve been fostering her since we discovered she’d been left behind when the former tenants moved out… it’s been 9 MONTHS since she went on petfinder and not even a nibble! She’s up to date (boosters were JUST done!) on all vaccines and spayed! She’s 2-3 and the loviest lap kitty on the planet, but my 12 year old kitty does not like her (to the point where she’s licking herself bald in places) and tries to attack her whenever she can 🥺 please share miss Wicket!

All submission must be received by October 28th, 11:59PM

The photo must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, including but not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame.

The photo must be taken by the submitter or submitter’s family that do not have a Facebook account.

Violators can be removed from the contest.

Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official contest channel. Entries not submitted through the proper channel will be deleted.

Entries will be judged by the selected area artists. All decisions are final. SAHEC reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.

By entering the contest, entrants agree that photos submitted can be used by the SAHEC for advertising purposes.

Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.

The prize must be collected by the winner and is non transferable.

The winner will be contacted via facebook messenger to the submitting profile provided during entry. If no response is received after three business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.

The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Ever wondered if there is a secret to having sweet cats? There are several, in fact!!! These three are my first go-to helpful facts.

1) EVERYONE in your home should be sure to let the kitty down when the kitty wants to get down.
——Every single time? Yes! I know, it may be incredibly frustrating with adorable impatient kittens, but you’ll thank me when they’re CUDDLY adults! (This is **especially** important while they’re kittens!) It helps the cat develop positive associations with being held/handled by everyone.

2) Don’t frighten/scare/grab/sneak up on your cats on purpose!!!
——-BUT it’s so FUNNY! Yes, I know it seems fun/hilarious and make great social media posts, but it also makes for cats who fundamentally do not trust people. Specifically, they will not trust you. Insecure cats are more likely to experience high levels of anxiety, and to express that anxiety through various unwanted/inappropriate behaviors. (Ie; urinating/defecating outside litter boxes, fighting with other cats, and even attacking/biting/hissing humans)

3) Make sure your cat has a place that is specifically theirs to relax. Preferably high off the ground, but some cats prefer low/inaccessible places.
——-My cat sleeps everywhere, though! Yes, I know they WILL rest anywhere, but it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t stress them out to feel unsafe. Usually kitties pick their spots, but we can help by adding cat trees or shelves!
