Less than 30 minutes before the hail started last night, I was out in the pasture brushing our dwarf miniature senior boy, Albert (for those of you who have never met Albert, a "little" context - I am 5'4" and am on my knees in this picture). I noticed he still had a considerable amount of his winter coat left, and with the heat expected this weekend, I wanted to get as much of that coat off as possible. Besides, there is something so therapeutic about brushing a horse after a long day sitting in front af a computer.
At the time, there were few clouds directly overhead (the clouds in the picture were to the north), so like any good Midwesterner, I ignored the sirens. My oldest son eventually came out to check on me, and so I ended up walking back to the house with him. The first piece of hail fell moments later. Ethan has always watched out for me, and last night was no exception. And yes, Albert made his way to shelter as well.
