Ever wonder what makes orange cats so special? Spoiler alert: It’s in their DNA! 🧬 Let’s break it down. 👇

🐾 1. 80% of orange cats are BOYS. Why? The orange gene is linked to the X chromosome. Males only need ONE copy to be orange, but females need TWO! That’s why ginger girls are rare!

🐾 2. No such thing as a solid orange cat. Every single orange cat is a tabby—even if their stripes are faint. The gene for solid orange fur? It doesn’t exist.

🐾 3. Freckles, freckles everywhere! 🐯 A lot of orange cats get little black spots on their nose, lips, and gums as they grow. It’s called lentigo—and yes, it’s 100% adorable.

🐾 4. Orange cats = extra social? 🤔 Studies suggest male orange cats tend to be friendlier and bolder than other cats. Coincidence? Science says maybe not!

🐾 5. Some are bright orange, some are creamy. Why? It’s all about pheomelanin, the pigment that creates orange fur. Some cats have more, some have less. That’s why you see different shades of ginger!

🐾 6. Big boys, big attitudes. Male orange cats tend to be larger than other cats. In the wild, bigger size = more dominance. Maybe that’s why they act like they own the place. 😼

🐾 7. Sun addicts! 🌞 Orange cats LOVE warmth. Their fur absorbs light differently, making them naturally drawn to sunny spots and warm blankets.

🐾 8. They TALK. A lot. 🗣️ Ever notice orange cats seem extra chatty? Some owners swear they’re the most vocal felines out there. Science hasn’t confirmed it—but orange cat parents KNOW.

🐾 9. They might live longer? 🧐 Some research suggests coat color could be linked to lifespan. Bigger size = survival advantage. But at the end of the day, health matters more than fur color!

🐾 10. They’ve been loved for centuries. 🏺 Ancient cultures believed orange cats brought luck, warmth, and prosperity. They knew what was up!

🔥 Orange cats = tiny tigers with BIG personalities. If you have one, you already know. 😉

MICHELLE JACKSON

When I was 16, I started working in Vet Clinics. It’s been a long career for me, and I have seen all sides of the cat business. I could attempt to sum it up by saying, it’s about the connection between you and the animal.

When I was in pre-veterinarian school at West Virginia University, I learned all about the anatomy of a feline. There are so many different breeds with interesting traits. There are many different diseases that our amazing pets deal with. There is just so much to the subject of cats, that one can easily devote their life to learning all about it. And I have. I really liked learning about these animals and how their bodies worked, how their minds worked.

After my education, I came back to Charleston, and for 6 years I was a vet-tech at Pet Vet. Then, in 1996 I joined Cats Only, where I focused on grooming just cats for the next 20 years!

Through all of that hands on experience, I learned to take full control over the process and make it an amazing experience for the cat. I also learned how to show and explain in simple terms what was going on, so that no owner was uneasy about grooming their loved one.
