Walking Wild Rescue Walking Wild is a non-profit organization that rescues captive bred fox and other non-wild animals

It is a very important $5 Friday! Monday we shared the devastating news that our 19 month old daughter is beginning hospice after an 8 month battle with cancer that we haven't been able to beat.

We are currently in the middle of a fundraiser that will financial support Walking Wild for the next 5 months. This will allow us to devote all of our energy to our daughter and making memories together. These funds will allow us to quickly and with additional help finish ongoing projects as well as meet our fundraising needs for daily expenses for the next 5 months. Meeting this goal will mean the world to us and will lift one mental load during this emotionally overwhelming time.

Throughout the entire 8 months we've been battling cancer walking wild has continued to not only sustain but to grow as we've saved 27 lives, continued our advocacy work and helped with multiple rescue missions. This time in our life we want to be no different as we strive to make sure that our mission and the animals are not impacted by what is going on. They're truly are no words that can express our gratitude to everyone that has and will be donating to support Walking Wild during this time.

We would love to raise $2,500 today which would put us at 15% of our total goal. In order to meet that goal, we need 500 of our over 150,000 social media followers to donate $5.

To donate, visit walkingwildrescue.org/melody and thank you!

Despite the devastating news we are thrilled that we get to spend these last few months with Melody back at home and she is loving being back with all of her animals. Roz and Russell are two of the foxes that she had a very tight connection with before our hospital stay began back in August. Watching her reconnect with them has brought so many smiles to hers and our faces. Melody is still in great spirits right now, despite what is going on inside of her body. We are trying to make the most of every moment and have loads of fun while she is still feeling up to it.

It has been over 8 months since our last Melody Monday and it is safe to say Melody and the fox are both happy to be together again. For those of you that may not be aware Melody has been in the hospital for over 8 months fighting a rare form of leukemia.

Although we couldn't be happier to be home with Melody, the return is full of lots of emotions. Friday we found out that Melody's cancer is no longer responding to chemo and is rapidly taking over her little body. This happened faster than we were expecting. We will be beginning home hospice soon and are planning on enjoying every moment and letting this little animal lover get all the four-legged fun she wants.

With this sad news hitting us sooner than we anticipated, we are asking for your help to allow us to enjoy every moment we have left with our precious girl through relieving some of the biggest mental and time consumers of the rescue. David and I can't say thank you enough to everyone that takes a moment to visit walkingwildrescue.org/melody . Your support means more to us than we could ever express.

Just as we've shared since day one, with what is happening with Melody we are not allowing it to impact the growth of our mission or the animals in our care and nothing has changed in that regard even with this sad news.

It's Day 2 of our skunk enclosures fundraiser. We are challenging everyone who sees this post to take an extra moment to click the link and donate whatever you are able. We are so grateful for every dollar donated. https://givebutter.com/KOMgfy

Yesterday we showed a video of figuring out what healthy foods our new skunks like. These guys have spent their entire lives on a fur Farm with extremely poor nutrition and just barely enough food to survive. When they first arrived rather than just jumping straight in to fruits veggies and healthy proteins we gradually start the transition as to not upset their GI system by introducing one element at a time. The fur farm diet was just kibble so utilizing a kibble with the addition of mealworms is step one to their diet transition.

We welcomed three pairs, six total, fur farm rescue skunks. And guess what, two of the little girls are potentially pregnant. Just like with the fox pairs, we were asked to take these special little skunks due to the fact that they had the potential to be pregnant. It'll be having an ultrasound in the coming days so that we will know for sure if we're expecting any little skunks in the coming weeks.

Although these are not the first skunk to call Walking Wild home, due to the number and the potential for kits, our current skunk space is not adequate. With your help, we need to begin building our new skunk city expansion here at Walking Wild so we can get these babies out of their temporary setups and into their permanent spaces here at Walking Wild. Doing this quickly is extremely important so that any pregnant females can get their new space ready for babies. This will eliminate the stress of moving environments that can be harmful to skunks and their parenting.

We have the space and the man power ready, but we need your help to purchase the materials. Just like every animal here at Walking Wild, these little skunks will have the same climate controlled indoor space attached to their own private outdoor space. This allows them to thrive and be comfortable year round. It also ensures that any potential kits are in a space that is safe for them and their health.

We can't do this without you!

Just like us, animals have foods they like and don't like, and each one is different. On the fur farm these guys were rescued from, they received very little food and the food they did receive didn't fulfill the nutritional needs that these unique animals have for a diet. To make sure we are feeding them a well-rounded diet that they will enjoy we put together a little taste test. These guys ended up cleaning their entire taste test plate, however, it's obvious that our favorites are yogurt, chicken, apples, blueberries and watermelon. These items will be added in to their kibble and dried insect mixture.

Did you know Walking Wild is home to four species of fox? One of those species is the adorable and unique gray fox. We are home to four gray fox:

Bing B**g surrendered after being illegally owned

Dash surrendered when his owner was moving to a state where owning him would be illegal.

Edna Mode surrendered after the owner was no longer able to care for her

Ricky - seized by law enforcement for being illegally owned.

Did you know that the gray fox is not a true fox. They do not belong to genus vulpes, which all true fox belong to. Gray fox are of the genus urocyon.

Walking Wild was honored to be part of a large rescue mission coordinated and carried out by the Humane Society of the United States in Northern Ohio. Over 330 animals living in a house of horrors were placed with sanctuaries and wildlife professionals across the US and are now safe.

This is the 8th fur/urine farm we have been able to help rescue animals from and provide a forever sanctuary to.

These three survivors have already begun generating thousands of dollars in vet bills and other expenses. If you would like to pour love into the lives of these three sweet coyotes through a one-time or monthly gift, we can't say thank you enough. Your support is the only thing that allows us to continue to save lives and help when asked. No donation is too small, and we greatly appreciate every dollar!

Walking Wild did not receive any financial contribution for taking these animals.

Thank you to our friends WEST Wildlife Rehab for sharing their video footage with us. With Melody being in the hospital, we were not able to make the six hour round trip drive up to the site, but we appreciate all of our friends who captured footage and transported our crew to us.

Walking Wild Rescue

Founded in 2020 Walking Wild is a non-profit organization that rescues and provides a safe haven for captive bred fox and wolf dogs. We provide every animal with the love and respect they deserve and educate the public about the cruelty of the fur industry and what the reality of welcoming a fox or wolf dog into your family is.

Foxes: Currently, in the United States, captive bred foxes are being raised two ways, either born on a fur farm to be pelted or bred for the pet industry. Foxes come to Walking Wild from a variety of circumstances. We provide a safe haven for foxes rescued from fur farms, surrendered by owners that are no longer able to care for them and captive bred foxes that have been dumped in the wild and are not able to survive.

Many captive bred foxes are born and raised on a fur farm to be pelted. For foxes born on a fur farm a bleak existence lies ahead of them living in small cages and never touching grass, until they are pelted and hanging in someone’s closet.

Walking Wild will be working with fur farmers around the US to take foxes that they are willing to surrender. These foxes will either be pups that are injured or rejected by their mothers, foxes that are too small, sick, older foxes that are no longer of use to the farmer or foxes with coats that the farmer can’t use.
