The Farm has been a bit neglected in last few weeks, so this morning was spent weeding, harvesting and recovering what I could. Beetroot is tiny but will be grated into a salad. Garlic is hung to dry will be ready on Anzac Day. Baby Leeks will be lovely cooked on the BBQ with olive oil or sauted for a frittata. Carrots were being eaten by something so salvaged what we could and they will be roasted with garlic and be a nice accompaniment to steak, the part eaten ones have gone in the worm farm. Fennel bulb and onions will be sliced into salads and the ripe tomatoes were lucky they made it to the kitchen, but they will be in a salad tonight or tomorrow for Paul’s lunch. First zucchini coming through so fingers crossed!

Last of the Tiddly Squat carrots for the winter, now to get some sand and Tiddly Squat compost dug through and put the next crop in. Capsicum seedling growing in the background of the photo, found them in the worm farm 😄.
Broad beans lots of flowers but no bread beans ever appear (no bees left to pollinate 😡)and now covered in aphids so sprayed to stop spread to other crops and they will be pulled up on weekend, time to try something else in that spot. Watch this space!

Consistent pea harvesting and still lots more coming along, many don’t make it to the kitchen getting eaten in the way back along the lawn😆, some get to the counter then get eaten 😆and a few get steamed for dinner 😊. Also tomatoes growing again but not hot enough to ripen them so I make green tomato relish with them 😋

This mornings harvest ready for dinner tonight, carrots are getting bigger and a more sensible shape 😆

Planted fennel, onions and rhubarb today. Also planted a cos lettuce that I put in water after we used the leaves and some more perennial basil shoots which re-root in days if you put them in water. Also found some broccoli or cauliflower shooting up in the worm farm so planted those, you never know!
Pumpkin and beans coming along nicely!

The patch to the right of the leeks and garlic was supposed to be onions but the seeds didn't take and the left was supposed to be Parsnips but again the seeds didn't take. So its time to bite the bullet and buy onion seedlings and plant them either side of the leeks, they can be planted quite closely together so going to get a few packs so we can have ongoing crop of onions right through to summer. I have given up on Parsnips as we cant get the seedlings anywhere. The boots are Merry Boots, Beetroot colour, the most comfortable boots I have ever worn!

Spent the morning in the farm weeding and repotting some herbs, moving things and covering crops. We now have 7 flowers on the pumpkin so hopefully we will get a crop. Beans and Brussels moved to field #2 for deeper soil and the tomato seedlings from the worm farm thinned out and put in the palette garden. White cabbage moth grubs are eating my Brussels and broccoli so they have been covered to protect them, all had a good dose of my magic fertilizer last night. All needs a good water later because it’s been warm and sunny here today.

Our first beans making an appearance, hopefully they will have a big growth spurt!
