About the Trainer:

Amanda Posen, CPDT-KA is a certified professional dog trainer through the Certfication Council for Professional Dog Trainers and has over 13 years of professional dog training experience. Her passion for dog training sparked when she was just 8 years old, volunteering as a guide dog puppy raiser with Guide Dogs of America. She graduated from Moorpark College's Exotic Animal Tra

ining and Management (EATM) program in 2010 and holds degrees in Exotic Animal Training and Management, Animal Behavior Management, and Wildlife Education. Throughout her professional career, Amanda hasn't strictly worked as a private in-home dog trainer. She has studio training experience and has instructed basic obedience and dog training classes based on production style behaviors. Amanda also has worked at a horse rescue and trained volunteers, underprivileged children, and those with special needs, to care for the animals at the rescue. Why ARF? When you contact Amanda, rest assured that the experience will be fun – for both you and your four-legged friend. Her training is rooted in positive reinforcement and rewards, an emphasis that evolved naturally starting as a puppy raiser at age 8. Amanda’s training philosophy, based on many years of proven success, is that dog training is a lifestyle and not a set of basic obedience skills. She is dedicated to helping pet-parents and their dogs achieve their training goals to live as a happy family. Amanda encourages her clients to use the skills she teaches them for everyday life while building a stronger bond with their dog. For this reason, she works with pet-parents that are as dedicated as she is to the training process, a process that lasts throughout the lifetime of their dog. Amanda's training approach is what ARF Dog Training stands for: Actively Reinforcing Fun! Have fun training WITH your dog while proactively rewarding them for good behavior.

What is Lifetime Doggie Tech Support? 🐶 💻 📱

It’s a complimentary service I offer to all my clients for the lifetime of their dog. Even if it’s been years down the road since our last session, you can reach out and I will do my very best to provide resources and assistance to you.

I was recently gifted this amazing mug from one of my pet parents who has often referred to me as her dog, Bertie’s “life coach”. 🥰

One of the reasons Bertie and her pet parents have been so successful is because they reached out and utilized their Doggie Tech Support! 👏 👏 👏

Being a good dog trainer doesn’t just mean treats, clickers, training plans and dog behavior. 🦴

A good dog trainer is an educator that is also your biggest cheerleader. 🧑‍🏫 📣

But, a GREAT dog trainer also provides you and your dog support in any way possible. 🙌

Office enrichment with Bertie! 🐶
Bertie accompanies her dad at the office a few times a week. I love the set up he made for her! 😍 When she first started going to the office she had difficulty relaxing. Here are some tips for how to keep your dog safe, comfortable and happy in an office environment.
Barriers - baby gates to manage your pup. Keeping your dog in a secure area helps them relax in their own space and prevents them from meandering around the office and engaging with coworkers 😉
Enrichment - Snuffle mats, puzzle toys and lick mats are all great forms of enrichment to help keep your dog calm, relaxed and entertained while at work. Activities that involve sniffing and licking are great stress reducers and have been proven to help lower a dog’s heart rate!

What is your office or work from home set up with your pup?

Nice explanation on the importance of being proactive with your dog. Prevent and manage the behaviors you don’t want, while teaching your dog what you want them to do instead!

Just like adolescent children, it’s hard being an adolescent dog!

Just like adolescent children, it’s hard being an adolescent dog!

Ever wondered why a puppy's behavior seems erratic during adolescence, which occurs between six months and 18 months of age?

The neurobiology of adolescence is fascinating, with some key events that alter both the structure and function of the brain.

During canine adolescence, s*x hormones are changing which effects the animals stress responses. Adolescent dogs have a decreased ability to modulate sensory processing and subsequent behavior.

The connectivity between the frontal cortex (responsible for decision making) and amygdala (responsible for emotional processing) decreases, resulting in less behavioral control.

So what does this mean? This could mean that your dog, who used to come when called, suddenly cannot. This could mean that your dog, who didn't jump up on guests, suddenly does. Your dog that walked nicely on leash is now pulling. Or perhaps it seems like some days your dog responds to behaviors you ask of them, and some days they don't, without any rhyme or reason.

We also see increased risk taking and more sensitivity to fear.

As your puppy undergoes this transition into adulthood their inner world is intense, even chaotic. Many pet owners experience an increase in undesirable behavior and find themselves becoming increasingly frustrated. In turn, frustration and impatience sometimes cause us to act unpredictably.

This adds to your puppy’s inner turmoil. When the inside and the outside are both unpredictable it can be difficult for puppies to adjust.

By understanding this we can gain greater compassion and understanding. When we approach adolescence with patience we can help create a world that is predictable and gentle so our puppies grow up to be their best selves.

So much fun doing Day Training with Ruby!

Ruby's favorite thing she learned was going to her mat and staying there when someone is at the door. Going to a mat/bed/place is a great way to address excitable door greetings with your pup.

If your dog is stationed at a mat they do not have the opportunity to run out the door or jump on your guests! Be proactive vs. reactive. 😊
