Today, I’ve spent lots of time thinking of how I can best help Buddy and, if I’m being honest, I have worried and stressed over this. So this is what I’ve come up with to start out with and, yes, this is all based on Buddy’s response to it so things can and probably will change:
1. I’ve started Buddy on antibiotics and pain medicine. I have another guinea who was not responding to those scripts and had to be prescribed something stronger. She’s getting 0.2 cc twice a day. Her little body has been fighting so hard to rid itself of the infection and pain so I just wanted to give her a little help. She’s also receiving Vitamin C orally.
2. Buddy is on alfalfa hay for the time being. It is good for sick small animals because it has extra calcium and protein. This should help her to regain some strength (hopefully in her lower back, hips, and hind legs).
3. I started very light therapy with hopes of reminding her body that her legs CAN move. Yes was kicking back at me so I know that that is true. So I started with light massaging starting at the neck and moving down the spine. She tolerated it but let me know when to stop. I also did a couple of reps extending and flexing the legs, as well as hip abductors and adductors. She did very well with those.
4. She received lots of love and cuddles!
So right now Buddy is eating and talking to Big Mama. Big Mama is very protective of Buddy and wasn’t too happy that I was recording her 😂. But having a mama is a wonderful thing 💕.
