Today we're featuring one of our feral residents, Puma! This guy has integrated into our feral population seamlessly. If you visit the sanctuary you probably won't see him often, unless you're around at wet food feeding time 😋

Jade and Jewel's Journey ❤️

In 2021, Jade (now named Avalon!) was rescued from a hoarding case involving over 100 cats. The conditions she was living in were unimaginable and we got her out ASAP. Shortly after, she gave birth to two kittens. Tragedy struck when they all fell ill and she lost one of them. Jade and her remaining kitten, Jewel, fought very hard and they pulled through!

Jewel was adopted quickly, but Jade’s journey wasn’t as easy. Because of the neglect and fear she experienced in a hoarding environment, she needed over six months of dedicated, patient foster care to learn to trust humans. Many cats from hoarding situations have to work through deep fears before they can open up, and Jade was no exception. But with time, love, and the incredible work of our Vice President, Christine Morris, Jade slowly blossomed into the loving cat we always knew she could be.

Jade was adopted into a home that is nothing short of perfect for her. Now, she’s living her best life—happy, content, and surrounded by the love she deserves. Jewel's family and Jade's family continue to share updates and photos, and we couldn't be more grateful for everyone who was there for these special girls.

This story is a powerful reminder of the work we do here at Fat Kitty City. With time, patience, and a lot of love, cats like Jade can transform and become the perfect companions. It takes a village, and we are so thankful to everyone who plays a role in these transformations. Thank you for supporting our mission and helping us continue to make stories like Jade’s and Jewel's possible.

12/28 UPDATE: Sadly, "Sparkplug" passed away last night. Despite our best efforts it was too late and he was sick beyond saving. We didn't have much hope when he arrived, but we gave it our best efforts. He at least passed having been named and been loved and was in a safe and warm place rather than being left in the cold. There are many more where he came from so we are formulating a plan to rescue his companions in his honor.

🚨 URGENT TRANSPORT NEEDED FOR SICK KITTEN!!! 🚨

We are in desperate need of help to transport a sick kitten from Clearlake Oaks to our sanctuary here in El Dorado Hills for immediate medical care. The kitten is in critical condition, and we must act quickly to save its life! He will likely not make it through the night without our help. 

Pick-up location: Clearlake Oaks, near the Post Office off Highway 20

If you’re able to volunteer and drive the kitten even halfway, or if you know someone who can help, please reach out ASAP. Every minute counts!

Looks like another one of our sanctuary cats is getting into the holiday spirit! We found one last letter in our mailbox, and this time it's from Mandarin. Mandarin is a semi-feral who has found his forever home with us, where he will live out the rest of his life. While he may never know the warmth of a family home, he does know the safety and care of our sanctuary, and we are so grateful to provide that for him.

Meet Dot & Muffin – Looking for Their Forever Home!

Dot and Muffin were adopted as kittens, but after life circumstances changed for their owner, they were returned to us. Now, we’re hoping to find them a quiet, loving home.

Dot is a 7 month old male. He is more outgoing and enjoys being petted and picked up. Muffin is also 7 months and a bit more reserved and cautious with new people. Together, they’re a sweet pair who would do best in a home with older children or teens.

Cat of the Week: Nicholas 😸

Nicholas’s story is one that no animal should ever have to live through—but sadly, it’s his reality. Found on the side of a freeway in SoCal, Nicholas was believed to have been either thrown from a car or hit by one. His paws were badly scraped, and his tail was broken—so severely, in fact, that we later had to amputate it to save him from infection. The pain he must’ve been in is unimaginable.

He was placed on the euthanasia list at the shelter and they were ready to give up on him. But we couldn’t. We fought for him. We fought to give him a second chance, to show him that not all humans are cruel. After a tense and stressful battle with the shelter in SoCal, we managed to convince them to wait one more day to euthanize him. We arranged for urgent transport and he was driven 9 hours to make it to safety here.

Despite all the pain and fear he’s endured, Nicholas is a fighter. He is the sweetest soul. He’s still a little shy, but his affection shines through. He loves to be brushed, and will lean into your hand for chin scritches and will give you little kisses. He’s food-motivated and will let you know when it’s time for his next meal (even if he’s already had enough 😹). He even does well with other cats, he's fine sharing his space with the other kitties in his foster home!

Nicholas deserves so much more than the hand life dealt him. He deserves a home where he can finally feel safe, loved, and pampered—where he can live without fear.

🌟 Meet Stormy: A Beautiful Survivor 🌟

This sweet girl was brought to the vet to be euthanized because she was diagnosed with diabetes. Fortunately, the vet refused and asked the owner to sign her over, giving Stormy a second chance at life!

We took her in and placed her in a loving foster home, where her incredible foster mom has worked wonders! Through a simple change in diet (no insulin needed!), Stormy has achieved remission and is thriving. She’ll need occasional at-home testing to ensure she stays healthy, but for now, she’s doing great!

Stormy is a gorgeous girl, both inside and out—cuddly, sweet, and easygoing. She’s ready for a forever home where she can continue to live her best life.

Her vet care will be covered at a discount through the local vet who saved her. If you’re looking for a loving companion with a heart full of gratitude, Stormy just might be your girl!

Meet Marcus: A Sweet, Special Boy Looking for His Forever Home 😸❤️

This adorable, resilient guy is Marcus, and while he may be blind, he’s got a heart full of love and an incredible spirit! He's only 4 years old and he's ready for his new home.

• Health: Recently had his second eye removed with no complications, and his teeth have been cleaned (some rotten ones removed). He’s feeling great!

• Personality: Marcus is a total lap cat who LOVES cuddles! He’ll happily be held like a baby, purring away as he snuggles up on your shoulder. He’s great with well-behaved dogs but unfortunately doesn’t get along with other cats.

• Adaptability: Despite his blindness, Marcus navigates the house like a pro—he even handles furniture changes with ease! Marcus is fully litter box trained (both Litter-Robot and standard boxes), and he knows how to jump onto tables and cat trees to access food and water—kept safe from the dogs!

If you’re looking for a loving companion who’s independent, yet always ready to shower you with affection, Marcus might just be the perfect match!
