This photo speaks so many things to me.

Close to Maria’s where our team helps Maria and all the rescue pups, fires like the ones in LA started and destroyed 18 homes. These people do not have the resources like we do and right now they are asking for wipes and very basic things just so people can bathe and have some necessities. Mexican folks are tough and some are staying and cleaning up the disaster. A lovely animal advocate brought supplies and dog food to some of these people and was shocked how filthy she was when she returned home and showered.

To me this photo represents the fragility of life, the classic super resilient, street dog. ( btw he is being treated my vets) How sad and harsh life can be, and the passionate caring people that come to help.

Sandra, Carlie and myself will be heading to Rosarito in April for 2 weeks to help Maria’s pups and bring back a lucky few dogs that will find their loving home.

We may only help a few at a time, but the human connections we have made over the years is something I never expected, and am forever grateful for. That is why we will wait endless hours in line with dogs, crates and us humans crammed in a car at the Tijuana border crossing, fly to Spokane then proceed to Motel 6 for a night with the most well behaved dogs ever. After a few hours of sleep, we pack everyone up and make our way back to Nelson.
It really could be a reality show, with no scripts.

We appreciate everything our town has done to support us. From fostering, volunteering, helping us find one of the recent rescues that have bolted, finances, and simple things like dropping off a dog collar that had once belonged to your beloved family’s pet. 💗 When sorting the collars on my kitchen floor I could feel the love, and the grief as I touched all the old name and vaccine tags.

We will keep doing what we do and we are a little wiser now and have 2 tracking collars to use for our really scared dogs at the beginning of this life changing journey.

Two of our recent rescues in their new homes. It takes 2 months from start to finish. Working with all the dogs for 2 weeks in Mexico, flying them home then training and decompression for a month in foster care.

These pups have a beautiful life now and their owners are so grateful to have these sweet smart souls come into their lives.

This is our blog on Nash.."We were told he was a special pup but had no idea quite how special he is. He's brought so much joy and laughter into our home especially with his vocal skills impersonating Chewbacca. Loving his calm attitude towards kids, dogs and new people..and love watching the cogs turn with all his new experiences..a big shout out to Denise and her crew at HBB for seeing the potential in these pups..thx again.

Sweet Luna is ready to find her forever home.

This 2-year-old lab mix made the journey from Mexico back to Nelson with 3 other lucky friends.

Luna was so scared of everything when we first met her because all she knew was shelter life and her crate. She has now done a complete 180 with the love and time her foster family has given her.

She enjoys daily long walks off leash on the local trails where she and her foster brother get to explore and adventure. She’s never too far away and always looks back to make sure her humans are in sight. Excellent recall, and best of all she’s so loving and gentle.

Luna is perfect in the house; fully housetrained and can be left alone. She loves snuggling with her companions – either humans or dogs. She is quiet and calm, smart and picks up commands quickly.

Luna is grateful for this new life and is so happy now. She really just wants to please her humans and will be a wonderful addition to any family. We love her.

Spayed and fully vaccinated including rabies.

Sweet Luna is ready to find her forever home.

This 2 year old lab mix made the journey back to Nelson with 3 other lucky friends.
Luna was so scared of everything at first because all she knew was shelter life and her crate.
She has done a complete 360 now with the love and time her foster family has given her.
She enjoys daily long walks off leash on the rail trails, where her and her foster brother get to explore and adventure.
She’s never too far away and always looks back to make sure her humans are in sight.
Excellent recall, and best of all she’s so loving and submissive.

She is perfect in the house, fully housetrained and can be left alone.
She is grateful for this new life and she will be a wonderful addition to any family.

We love her.

Tonight we had a cuddle puddle with these four. It will likely be the last time Nash and Luna see each other.
Life has changed dramatically for these two in one months time. They are resilient, loyal, happy and such loving dogs.

Soon he will be making the big step to his forever family that are waiting for him. He took a bit of time and patience at the beginning but he is now a wonderful, loving, loyal boy. 💗

We didn’t get a chance to post Nash on our website until today. Thank you Tracy, Julia, Sandra and Nick and Rob for spending time with this boy. He’s been in Canada now for 3 weeks and is pretty perfect in every way. Thriving on leadership, knowing his boundaries and cuddling with his foster mom and fur foster Rosie..

Today we had a very successful meet and greet with Nash’s new family and foster dog. He will soon be residing in Burton BC. They are exactly what we had hoped for. 💗

Denise is going to miss him very much. He is loyal, loving and makes you feel safe. Being able to witness this transformation is why we do what we do. It’s something that is priceless. It’s a lot of time and work at the beginning but these dogs are smart and very grateful.

Hello, my name is Luna. I was recently rescued from a shelter in Mexico after I was found in a field with my siblings, alone and hungry.

I made the long journey to Canada and now I am settling in well with my foster family.
I was very frightened and skittish when I first arrived but I quickly grew to trust my people and get comfortable with my new surroundings. I’ve regained my confidence now and I’m very loving and affectionate.

I enjoy going for walks, I’m good on leash, and I’m getting used to all the new things here like bikes, new people, and sudden surprises. If I do get suddenly spooked the biggest risk of all is that I’ll try to take off and run back home. Some dogs get aggressive when they are afraid , but not me..I’m very submissive and just try to avoid conflict.

My foster family have a dog of their own ( also rescued from where I lived in Mexico) and we get along very well and don’t even fight over food or toys.

I’m a mixed yellow lab about 2 years old with lovely blonde fur. I’m spayed, all of my vaccines are up to date, including rabies.

My foster family have grown very fond of me and were pleasantly surprised that I came fully housetrained and have not caused any trouble or damage in their home. They can leave me alone while they go out and I just sleep.
I even enjoy car rides.
I’m ok sleeping in my crate at night, though of course I’m happiest if I’m close to my family.

I’ll miss my foster parents when I find my forever home, and you’ll need to be patient for a month or so with me. But before long I’ll be your trusted companion and never leave your side.

Babysitting one of our favourite rescues Nash in beautiful Burton BC. So fortunate to be able to spend time with him and although it must be a little confusing for him, it must be a little comforting too in knowing that we didn’t leave him forever.

After searching for 2 hours tonight we called it and then she appeared down Horlicks point ( end of Sandra’s driveway) It took some gentle coaxing but when she realized it was us she was estatic. Huge thanks to all the participated in this search. She’s truly a loving girl that just needs a bit of love and time.
