Most of the time we focus. π
My personal pups don't get a lot of obedience training. At the end of my mostly 10 to 14 hour work days, we focus on search work mostly. Trying to go back and work on all the basics the last couple of weeks. Thankfully, I only take on a couple of FULL TIME (latchkey or b&t) dogs at a time to make sure they get more attention than most other pet trainers give. That means I have some time to rotate my own dogs into the daily training schedule. We are brushing up on a lot of behaviors I just let go as "the hill I don't need to die on." (Nothing major, they are really good dogs)
Equipment: leash and slip
Train fair. Teach the skill. Make it fun. Then layer in the ecollar ethically. #takeyourtime

Learning the down!
Some dogs struggle with this but we unlocked Willow's down today. Two of our biggest enemies in any training is focus and motivation. Get silly. Read the dog in front of you. Forget what you look or sound like and just have fun with the dog.
Willow did awesome today working on down, heel, recall, door manners, and not jumping on new people.

Sometimes training can be exciting when something you have been working on finally comes together. Koda is my first working dog, and I made a lot of mistakes in the beginning. I had a lot of trainers that just weren't good at conveying and emphasizing the foundations. I'm going back and "fixing" a lot of bad habits with him now. No shame. Embrace the learning process but to those that come to me for help, I harp on the foundations for a reason.
