This needs to be said again and again....
Key points in not wasting anyone’s time when looking for a horse:
💥 When sending messages ask specific questions.
💥 Ask your husband BEFORE messaging.
💥 Check your bank BEFORE messaging.
💥 When I ask what your budget is, it is NOT flexible depending on the horse - I can find $1,000 horses and I can find $150,000 horses but most of mine are going to be in the $5,000-$25,000 range. I’m not going to show you $15,000 horses when your budget is $2,000.
💥 Safe, Sane, Sound, Cheap - pick 2 unless your budget is above $7,500 then you can pick a third.
💥 I am not going to cater to you on videos on a $6,000 horse, what you see is what you get. If you want a video of fluffy doing the cha cha slide you can come make it yourself.
💥 Deposits are NON refundable unless the horse is the exact opposite of what I describe it as, which has never happened. I have a good name, throwing it away on one horse isn’t worthwhile to me.
💥 Horses are not returnable - this isn’t Walmart. You bought the horse then screwed it up and want to bring it back 3 months later, that is your problem. Sell it or I’ll help you sell it.
💥 “Thanks for answering my 70 useless questions, I wish I could get a horse right now.” You’re getting blocked at this point.
💥 ”That horse looks a bit soft up front.” It’s a 20 something year old needing a trim, kid safe and extremely cheap, if it wasn’t soft up front and 20 something years old it wouldn’t be cheap.
💥 I don’t need a back story of every horse you’ve ever owned and how many horses your uncles aunt has had, I honestly do not care.
💥 No, your friend’s friend who rode a horse last year cannot come try the greenbroke 3 year old for you.
💥 No, you can’t come in a month to try the horse - it will be sold by then.
💥 “You sold him? I wanted him!” No deposit for me, no horsie for you.
💥 “Do you have PPE on file?” No Linda, I don’t have a PPE on file for a $5,500 trail horse.
💥 “That’s expensive, why is he that much?” A horse is worth whatever someone’s willing to pay - I price them at what it takes to own the horse, otherwise I’ll keep them. I’d say my prices are pretty decent considering I can’t keep stock in the barn.
💥 No. The unstarted two year old is in fact not kid safe strangely enough.
💥 “Is it kid safe?” Is your kid like mine and rides everything I do? Or is your kid like the last horse I had that got spooked by its own fart?
💥 Read the ad. Do not ask me anything that is already on the ad which includes but is not limited to - age, height, color, abilities/discipline, level of rider.
💥 “Why is Fluffy for sale?” If it’s mine it’s because I sell horses? If it’s a client I don’t know and I really don’t care?
I’m not putting this out there to scare people off of messaging me, I’m actually super nice and reasonable 99% of the time. But good lord people, figure out how to do this whole buying thing and stop tire kicking. I’ve been consigning to bigger sales recently just so I don’t have to deal with this stuff. It’s exhausting. There’s a reason I have a “therapy pen” filled with midget animals to pet, and the reason isn’t the animals.
For those who ask specific questions, are honest about what they can afford and quickly make a decision on whether to pursue further - I greatly appreciate you!
