So proud of our chicken coop. We're big on repurpose and recycle here on our little urban homestead. This is a shed that we repurposed into a coop. It's NOT finished and they will have a big outdoor run that's also reinforced soon... as well as a large chicken tractor that we'll move them to various parts of the yard at times. They are 10 weeks and were ready to get out of the big brooder and into their own space. They have been out there a couple hours now and loving it. ❤️

It will have windows, automatic door, p**p shelf and a roosting area. Hubby works full time and had been working on this at night the last few weeks. He's done a great job.

One thing about it, I'm blessed to have a husband that can build anything at all and build it well.

Saturday morning fun here at our little "Hounds & Harvest Homestead" 🐣☀️ and on another note, I've never realized just HOW MUCH I sound like a hot pan of Cornbread. 🤦‍♀️🤯🤣 My Monday- Friday Corporate voice is so much different than my weekend at home voice. 🤣 Anyone else out there who can relate? 🤔

Well, we have a lot going on here on the homestead.
☀️Picking up a brooder box from the Amish folks in middle Tennessee tomorrow for our babies that will be using it soon.
🐣Ordered our baby chicks yesterday. 2 Chocolate Orpingtons, 2 Black Ameracaunas and 2 NJ Reds. They'll be about 3 days old when they arrive.
🏠Ordered a Chicken Coop for the girls for when they get old enough to go out there. It'll be delivered next week.

🤯So for now, we're in full prep mode. Getting gardens ready for veggies and getting things ready to welcome baby chicks when they arrive on about March 20.

Will Ya'll say a prayer and just lift our little farm up? Peace, health and abundance to all that call this little place home. May the work's we do here lift others and make just a small difference to those we reach. ❤️🙏

🌱🚜 Embracing the Homestead Hustle: Real Life Edition! 💪

Let's talk about the unfiltered, unglamorous, and downright messy side of homesteading – where perfection takes a backseat, and we're all just doing our best to keep the plants alive and the chickens clucking. 🌿🐔

Swipe left, and you won't find picture-perfect homesteads that took 10 attempts and a filter to look Insta-worthy. Nope, here's the real deal – the not-so-pretty, but oh-so-authentic snapshots of homesteading life. 📸😅 This is our version of Urban homesteading on 1 little Tennessee acre.

Ever notice how everyone's homestead highlight reel is filled with flawless houses, manicured gardens, and chicken coops fancier than a spa? Meanwhile, the average homesteader (hello, it's me!) is just a tired, overworked, overstressed mom trying to dodge the lies life and society throws our way. 💤🌽

Who needs a $4K chicken mansion when you can turn an old trampoline into a coop for four feathery friends? 🐓💰 And that loaf of sourdough? It might not have ferns and flowers etched into it, but damn, it's a labor of love that deserves a spotlight! 🍞❤️

So here's to the small patio gardens, the recycled goods, and the imperfectly perfect homesteads that may not cover 10 acres but are brimming with heart and hard work. 💚✨ Our little spot isn't fancy, but it's ours. We've poured a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it. ⬇️

Let's be a community that celebrates the real-life triumphs and not just the highlight reels. 🤝
🏡Show me your homesteading life. What pics on your roll may not have brought you a million likes online, but have brought you a million smiles instead? I know you have a few.... share the life that is making YOU happy. ♥️

Christmas Day had me in the kitchen trying a new recipe. I know, holidays are NOT the time to try something new, but what can I say....I love for Mayhem here. 🤣

I made these rolls. Milky, ye**ty deliciousness. I'm putting the recipe link ⬇️ if you want to try it. It uses simple ingredients that most of us have on hand. If you try it, let me know how you like it! Look at these beauties!! They were perfect!❤️

It's been a minute since we've posted. Life here on our little patch of earth has been chaos as usual. Going into 2024 though, my word for the year is INTENTIONAL.

Intentional with life, time, space, finances, hobbies, friendships... everything. This includes even maintaining my social media pages because I know sometimes people just like to relate to real people. That's who we are. What you see is what you get with this crew. The good, bad, ugly, funny, messy, chaotic.

Today I'm studying for a big exam on January 8th... but also doing some planning for adding more gardening space this spring.

What are you doing today? What are your plans and goals for 2024?

Welcome Home Gus, Welcome Home!!!❤️
Thank you to my sweet friend Sue Jones with Toller Rescue Inc, Lorie at McCook Humane Society and the multiple volunteers convoying him across the country... sacrificing their own time, resources and efforts to help us save a life. 🙏 You guys ROCK. I've said it before and I'll day out again, there is no community like the Toller Community!

🌺Gus is now home on our Homestead which we call Ohana.... because Ohana means family and no one gets left behind.🌺 Each of us here is a rescue story in our own right. 3 rescue dogs, 4 rescue cats, 2 adopted children and even Scott and I rescued eachother. No one fights alone or gets left behind here.

Today Gus starts his journey home to us here in Tennessee!! Thanks to Sue Jones and Toller Rescue Inc and a convoy of several volunteers, Gus is leaving the animal Shelter in Mccook Nebraska and coming home...1,100 miles!!!!

You guys know our hearts for Rescues, especially Tollers. When we learned about Gus, we just had to take him!

Lifting him, those that have cared for and grown to love him at the shelter and the many volunteers that are driving him cross country up in prayer today and sending lots of love and light. Here's to a safe and peaceful journey for all. Scott Murray leaves tomorrow morning to drive to St Louis MO to pick him up from one of the volunteers and drive him HOME. We will post updates along the way.

Just a couple of girls tending to our worm farm this morning. Love these times with her. Teaching sustainability, responsibility to Earth, recycling, commitment, ingenuity.... and even counting. She counted worms... up to 30 this morning before needing help. Impressive for 4.❤

We're worm farmers for about 2 weeks now. 🤣
When you want to compost and recycle, you get Red Wigglers (350 of them) and make a farm. CLEAN, ORGANIC Compost. Beautiful.

Thank you Frontline Gardens and all the volunteers for this amazing gift. So very thankful. ❤🙏🇺🇲
