Friends of ours are having their first litter! If it's a big dog you desire, you can't get any better than a Berner! While we chose to focus on our mini goldendoodles, I have owned a Berner in the past and can say from experience that they are the most gentle giant breed.

For those tracking our next litter...progesterone levels are almost perfect! We should be breeding in the next 1-3 days....

I often get questions from people about puppies, and today I got a great one! The question was concerning how old should their current puppy be before they would get a second, and is it ok to get a second from the same parents?

Great question! The biggest concern is getting two puppies of the same age at the same exact time (either from the same litter or different). This can lead to what's called "littermate syndrome" and can have behavioral issues if intense training isn't involved. I'm not going to go into details about littermate syndrome, but there's tons of info online if you're interested.

I don't think there is a magic number for age when it's time to introduce another puppy. I think it's more important to gauge where you are at with your current pup. I would be in a good place with obedience and house training, and bond with the family. The new pup will learn from the current pup, so if the current dog is peeing in the house and running away...you can expect the new pup to learn those behaviors. Obviously no dog is perfect all the time, but if you are generally pleased with the behavior then you are ready.

There is not concern for getting a second pup from the same parents at a later date. Again, just avoid getting two at the same time.

Bean has great enthusiasm for investigating new things! I can imagine him loving all the sniffs he could find on a hike in the woods. He'll be big enough for longer walks - around 25lbs. One of his sisters's human parents said she's glad to have a dog sturdy enough to tumble with her kiddos.

Our waiting puppy reminds me of my dog, Sprocket, when he was brand new. Where ever there was fun happening, there was Sprocket! Bean always wants in on playtime too!

I've become doubtful of the yellow collar, but I'm biased. Do you like the green collar or his original yellow collar better for Groopert? (Please forgive the intrusion of the wild animal. I turned off the video before Groopert could be eaten.)
