❄️❄️ APPEAL ❄️❄️

Does anyone have any spare rugs/mats or carpets in the Portsmouth (UK) area and surround?

We're trying to keep the garage buns as warm as possible during the low temperatures and we're running low on soft flooring furnishings. They don't need to be pretty - just do the job 😄

We bought loads of cheap fleece rugs a few years ago for the warren and alas, only one has survived until now!

Thanks all xx

Senna & Lily
Spayed and fully vaccinated
Female,
9 months & 6 months old.
Wickham, Hampshire (currently in a foster home)

***
Senna and Lily are two 6 and 9 month old sisters who are looking for a fabulous new home.

Both were rescued after their previous owner allowed multiple litters of in**ed buns and then suggested she was going to dump them in the woods, the girls were transferred straight to a foster home.
Now both spayed and fully vaccinated, they are looking for a stable and loving forever home.

Rehoming fee will apply as will a home check 🙂

🐰HOW TO DONATE TO US🐰

Donating is a wonderful way to contibute towards the lives of rabbits that have otherwise come from difficult or misplaced backgrounds.

Donations are not mandatory as we will obviously ensure everyone is well fed and looked after, but helps to supplement towards veterinary bills, husbandry costs and ongoing upkeep.

Whether it's time, monetary or resource donation - every little helps and goes towards caring for and enriching every little floofball that comes into care, as they settle in and prepare to live out the rest of their days in peace.

So how does it work?

- You can share, share, share! We work tirelessly to educate and look after our floofs. We can't do that without word of mouth or the power of social media.
- You can donate to us via our Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/20A2QZTB4Q483..
- You can donate directly through Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/winstonswarren (please choose the friends & family option when asked)
- We also accept spare toys, food, hay, enclosures, cages, etc.
- We sometimes release a monthly list of needs, so watch out for this!

The buns thank each and every one of you for your time!

🐰DID YOU KNOW... Some rabbits like to sleep like they've just literally passed away?🐰

OH YES. Please find this collection of photos from rabbits over the years, who have given me the WORST HEART PALPITATIONS. As you can see, most of them are Bear; who has this perfected as an art form (the first photo was taken a few days ago!)

Not all rabbits prefer to sleep like this. Even if they don't, it doesn't necessarily mean that your rabbit is unhappy at all. Like us, they have favorite positions that are most comfortable for them. Older rabbits who tend to suffer from arthritis for example, will find it naturally painful to stretch their limbs out as they get older, whereas more nervous rabbits tend to favor a loaf position with their eyes open for potential dangers.

Scroll to Kairi - my black and white Dutch that passed from cancer a few years ago - I have to this day, NEVER, seen a rabbit sleep on their back with their legs in the air like that 😂😂

Hope these didn't terrify you as much as me!

Why we like to talk 💩💩💩

Your rabbit's droppings say a LOT more than you think.

👉They can tell us how hydrated they are.
👉How their colon/digestive health is.
👉How much hair they've ingested while grooming.
👉If they are eating their own caecotrophs or not.
👉If any obvious endoparasites are present.
👉How much hay they are eating.
👉If there are any intestinal blockages.
👉What the rabbit's biochemistry reads (if there is any excess calcium, etc.)

Let's keep talking 💩, don't be afraid to dig around and have a glance at your bunny's droppings.

Rough DOB: 03/04/2021
Gotcha Date: 08/10/2022
Story: Marley arrived as an emergency admission as no other rescues in the area were available to take in and rehome at the time. With the owner needing to move house ASAP, he needed a safe space as soon as possible. Already vaccinated and neutered, he arrived fresh faced and was eventually bonded into The Willow Warren where he rules happily as patriarch.

You may have seen that in the last few months there seem to have been more reports of RHD deaths in vaccinated rabbits.

There are countless reasons why this may be the case and as none are confirmed, we won't be speculating here.

We want to remind everyone that this gives us more reason than ever to vaccinate our rabbits. There are many cases where vaccinated rabbits in the same household have managed to escape the disease, and they would almost certainly not have survived if they did not have some protection from the vaccine.

If a rabbit's vaccinations have lapsed, they are at huge risk of contracting and dying from this deadly disease - even if they live indoors. Check now when their vaccinations run out and put a reminder in your diary or calendar to book them in at least a couple of weeks before they are due to give you plenty of time to arrange.

🌈MEMORIAL MONDAY 🐰

This week we have chosen sweet Kimahri.

You'll have to bear with me here because this one still hurts my soul.

Kimahri was a purebred English Angora, my first and only angora love thus far. He came all the way down from Yorkshire and settled in as a house bun pretty much right away,.

With the softest fur imaginable and the most beautiful ruby eyes, Kimahri was a heartbreaker, He was confident, affectionate and loved to be around you., We found him multiple times sleping upstairs with the cat at the top of the stairs, where he'd broken out of his enclosure during the night, Always trailing a skirt of bloody hay and litter pellets wherever he went!

He had to be groomed daily for approx 20-30 mins to be kept in good condition. And let me tell you, this boy LEARNED how to sit still when I got those clippers out. I always took the most time on his ears, trimming them carefully and brushing through his tassels. Of course; his cheeks were a nightmare when he got a hair clumpy and oh boy, did he not appreciate that!

Eventually, he was diagnosed with a papilloma tumour at the very entrance of his re**um. Although it didn't cause any issue for a few years, and only made the odd appearence from the mucosa inside,

He passed away in 2022, leaving such a crater in my heart that even now, it's unimaginable to see his photo on my 'Rainbow Bridge' album. I still expect to see him speeding around the corner, showing off whatever crappy hair cut I'd given him. I don't think it'll ever stop hurting fully.

Binky free, Kimahri🌈🐰♥

Sharing Hades's story for this week's Showcase Sunday 🥰

Hades
Male
Agouti Mixed Breed
Rough DOB: 01/01/2018
Gotcha Date: 21/01/2022
Story: Hades had a couple of different homes before finding his way to us. A local vet contacted me to discuss that Hades was having ongoing dental issues and has never been offered hay to eat. The previous owner had faced the decision of paying for possibly recurrent dentals or euthanasia. Unfortunately the latter would be the better decision financially for the owner, so very graciously agreed to sign Hades over to me to adopt him into my care. After castration, vaccination and his dental procedure, I bonded him into Kiwi and Jasmine who are notorious hay MONSTERS. Eventually, he began to learn why they got so excited when their hay rack was refilled and through spending time with his newly bonded girlfriends – he too, became used to munching on all sorts of hays, textures and flavours. He now lives as part of The Willow Warren. The best part? No dental issues since!!

Not taking on too much is a huge part of running a rabbit rescue. One of the hardest things is having to turn away rabbits every single day, but we absolutely must do it.

To take on rabbits we don't have space, time or money for, would be doing a disservice to the rabbits we have already committed to helping who are in our care.

We have moved to our new premises and we are getting closer and closer to building the housing so we have the space to take on a larger number of rabbits which is so exciting. But even if we have the space, there will be occasions when we don't have the funds, or the time to take more rabbits on.

We believe all three recourses need to be available in order to responsibly say yes to bringing another rabbit into our care. We make the promise to every resident who joins us to do the best by them so saying no is often the most ethical thing we could do.

🌈MEMORIAL MONDAY 🐰

This week we have chosen sweet Breeze.

Breeze was the second rabbit that we brought home and was the original wifebun to Winston.

Having been brought back and forth to the local Pets at Home two or three times because she was 'unrehomable', we decided to take her on and bonded her and Winston together.

We quickly understood why she hadn't flourished in her previous homes. Breeze was not a cuddle bun, by any means. She was half wild (so the original owner reported, although those cases are rare), she was independent, quick, and very very speedy. Breeze did not like to be handled in ANY capacity. Any attempt to pick her up was fraught with a panicked lifeform trying to get away, even at the risk of her own safety. She remains one of the few rabbits to this day that I struggled to handle (and believe me, there aren't many!)

Breeze was the absolute embodiment of 'strong, confident woman'. She loved Winston, but was never afraid to show him when he'd pi**ed her off. Once, she deliberately sat in front of the sliding door of their shared hutch for three days and kept closing the door to deny him access to the ramp to their bedroom. It took days for them to settle their tiff, and he was allowed to sleep next to her again. Somewhat sheepishly.

She was taken too soon by myxomatosis, I held her for hours on her last night, cradling and telling her how much I loved her. From that point on, I never knowingly let my vaccinations lapse ever again.

Bonus fact: Breeze came to visit me in my dream and say goodbye not long after she passed. She was happy and fulfilled and after she disappeared into thousands of lights, the rest of my dream continued as was before time 'froze'.

Binky free, Breeze🌈🐰♥

13/11/2023

Our QUEEN Raven is undergoing chronic pain management for arthritis.

But at almost 9 years old, we need to up her meds! Currently she is on long term Meloxicam twice a day at the highest dose. After a vet visit today, we have made a new plan to help her be as comfortable as possible for whatever time she has left.

Raven will be starting Tramadol twice daily, joint supplements and has started 1 of 6 k laser therapy sessions, which we already see a tiny bit of improvement from!

Raven's medications and care don't come cheap however. With her management plus Liono's meds and vaccinations upcoming (Liono, Clea, Hazel, Aqua, Cloud, Bear and Ivy).

Obviously we are a small private to the public, self funded Sanctuary and every little helps. If you can spare just a few pennies every few weeks, months, etc. it really does make all the difference to allow all of bunnies to live the best, comfortable life possible.

If interested in helping the buns out, please check the information below:
