Rosemary in bloom! This is one of our favorite garden herbs. This perennial packs in a lot of benefits. Rosemary is known to help improve gut health, boost memory, and improve mood. It also helps to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and protect the immune system. Moreover, rosemary can help protect against macular degeneration, stimulate circulation, detoxify the body, and heal many skin conditions.

When the hornworm eats the entire Chile Paquin plant…. Amazingly enough it still fruited a handful of peppers after the caterpillar had its fill. I let him be because we planted extra for this very reason.

Putting in some sweat equity this morning, to amend the soil. This big ole pile of steaming compost is going to give our produce the extra goodies they need to keep producing for us. A big dirty gift that keeps on giving 💖🌱

Have you seen this plant around? Did you know it’s not just a ‘weed’?! Solidago, or Goldenrod, can be made in to a tea to help reduce inflammation, relieve muscle spasms, fight infections, and lower blood pressure. We are drying some up to preserve for later in the year. (Note this is not the culprit for allergy sufferers, that is likely ragweed.)

It’s migrating season. Help make sure migratory critters make it to their destination by turning off your lights at night, allowing them to keep focused in the stars to guide them home.

Houston Audubon and our partners recommend buildings three stories and higher and those with exterior lighting turn LIGHTS OUT for TONIGHT, October 3, 2022. Bird migration for the region is predicted to be medium and high for the next three nights by Cornell Lab of Ornithology's BirdCast Program. This means that over 23,000 birds per kilometer per hour will be traveling over our region, possibly stopping to rest and refuel.
By turning off unnecessary lights at night, both at work and at home, during periods of migration, you can help dramatically reduce hazards from attraction to and disorientation by light, allowing our avian neighbors to safely proceed on their journeys through our region.
With grounded birds in the region for the next few days, daytime collisions at ground level will also be greatly increased. Proud farmer moment. Today I’m planting seeds that were harvested from our spring crop, meaning they were FREE! Sustainability in action. Here’s to hoping they have a decent germination rate so we have lots of broccoli this winter 💕
