Scooter received a new hat in the mail. It doesn't quite fit but is still cute.

09/03/2020

Scooter had a fresh bandage change and then got to spend some time on the deck.

Yesterday he met his Dad's best friend (since 2003) and went for a bath.

By the time we left he was snoring.

08/03/2020

Patsy and I are settling in. We spent the day meeting some of my new family. Then a nice nap.

06/03/2020

TODAY IS THE DAY! I am going to my new home. My new family will continue to care for my wounds and see me through heartworm treatment. I can't wait to play with Patsy!

05/03/2020

I met my new sister Patricia Marie tonight. I like her.

04/03/2020

My foster Dad decided I needed a hat today!

04/03/2020

I am excited! I am going to visit my foster to adopt home tonight so my mom and dad can learn how to change my bandages and to meet my new sister Patsy!

I will go to them Friday night so they have all weekend with me!

03/03/2020

Scooter and his foster sister Stella have decided they like each other (Scooter likes everyone - Stella is a 11 year old boxer so she can be a pain sometimes).

Enjoying their lazy day

03/03/2020

Scooter also had his right eye examined yesterday. There is no activity - this mans there is no active ulcer as there was before. What is there is now a scar and there is no treatment for it - it is a scar. He can see out of the eye so he will be a handsome boy with an eye accessory.

Good Morning Friends!

Today will be a very quiet day. Both of my foster parents are working. Mom goes in early and Dad works later.

Zeus, Stella (the other pups in the house) wil just be hanging out today.

Mom took a picture after I finished my breakfast and I nicely took my meds.

No fancy hat today.

Happy Tuesday!

02/03/2020

Dr. Lambert said I am doing very well. My wounds are healing, my teeth are nice, I will be ready for my 1st heartworm treatment in 30 days.

My foster mom took some pictures. There are a couple that show my wounds so don't look if you don't want to see.

On Wednesday my foster mom and dad will change my bandage for the first time.

Tonight I will try out a crate for 10 minutes to see how I do.

Back to Dr. Lambert in 1 week for a check up.

02/03/2020

Waiting to see Dr. Lambert...

02/03/2020

GOOD MORNING FROM SCOOTER! He has had his breakfast and meds and been outside where he nicely gave a good sample for his vet visit today.

He gets to meet all the great people at Quinebaug Valley Veterinary Hospital, LLC and have a thorough exam with Dr. Lambert.

We will discuss his plan of care which will include his right eye, wounds, ears, and a plan for heartworm treatment.

Scooter got a new harness that he can wear inside (we have not put as collar on him yet) and a sweater because he isn't used to the New England cold.

So now he is just waiting to go!

ALERT - Local to CT and want to meet Scooter? See what we have in store

SCOOTER ALERT: We have had a lot of people local to CT ask about meeting Scooter. We were going to have this be a surprise but we thought it was best to let anyone who wanted to meet him know about his first public appearance.

On 4/25 we will be at the Mashentucket Pequot Museum for out annual "Wags, Wiggles and Giggle - Just Doggone Funny" Funny 4 Funds comedy show.

Scooter will be a special guest and will be there to meet his new friends from 6:30PM until the show starts at about 7:45PM. We will have all his hats ans a photo booth for folks to get their picture taken with him. We will also have a video presentation of his journey. This Night will honor SCOOTER!

YOU MUST PURCHASE TICKETS TO THE SHOW.

After the comedy show we will schedule another meeting fro those who can't join us.

Today is a milestone day in Scooter's Journey. It is the 1st day if the second part of his three-part journey.

We will continue to update often but I need to let everyone know I am not sure if we be able to be as creative as Elizabeth when is comes to head wear.

I wanted to also continue a little on the "It Takes a Village" theme and talk about the folks involved in the transport and arrival.

Elizabeth started the day and of course she has been the town hall of the village as his foster for the past 4.5 weeks. She became a WOFAR Foster when she saw Blanche through her entire heartworm treatment. She has had Tiny Tim, Wyatt, Archie, Liam, and there may be others I forgot. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful partner "on the ground" in SC.

Robin is a personal friend of mine. I worked with he husband many years ago and we have kept in touch over the years. Robin recently moved from IN to NC where she had been active with her local Humane Society. Robin is s true rescuer - always working for those in need and to me. more importantly Robin is a wonderful soul.

Lindsey was Leg 3 - Lindsey is a "boots on the ground" rescue advocate in NC as well. Lindsey is involved in her local rescue effort and fosters for us as well. Lindsey is always ready to help in her area when we ask.

Abby was Leg 4 and his overnight stay. I have known Abby the longest - since 2004 when my daughter and Abby started high school together. They became very good friends and went on to be college roommates - she is truly considered our other daughter. Abby, like Elizabeth is a highly-skilled nurse so it was perfect to have Scooter with someone who could handle any medical issue that could arise. Abby lives in Northern VA.

The plan was for me to be flown to Southern MD o meet Abby by a wonderful local private pilot - Chris. We knew we would need a back up plan in case weather was an issue and even though it looked OK to most of us - it was too iffy. Cold temps and clouds make for possible icing on a small plane - so we went to Plan B,

Plan B included 4 of us (my husband Steven, my Son JP and JP's girlfriend Ashley) driving from eastern CT to Linthicum, MD to meet Abby. We took off at 6AM and met Abby at 12:25. We had a few minutes with Abby and off we went - for the 6-7 hour return trip. JP and Ashley will eventually be Scooter's adoptive parents - after we are sure we have the immediate medical needs under control (he still needs bandage changes every other day), Scooter will go to JP and Ashley as a foster until he has had the rest of his needs met - heartworm treatment, specialists visits and possible additional medical for his eye and ear canals and finally neuter. This will be 9-11 months.

And of course Dr. Lambert and Amy - again, we planned for the possible need for Scooter to have a need for vet care after he arrived and sure enough he did. We can not thank them enough for being there at such a late hour on a Saturday evening.

Thank you also to all who have been art of the bigger village - Scooter has the biggest village I have ever seen.

01/03/2020

Scooter had a very restful night. Has gotten up, gone out and is back to resting. We know after a long transport dogs usual just rest for a day or so

01/03/2020

We always say it takes a village to rescue. This is a perfect example.

Very close to home Scooter's bandage slipped and his wounds were exposed. I contacted his CT vet (he has appt Monday). Dr. Lambert and one of the vet techs met us at the clinic at 7:30PM on Saturday night to change his bandage.

Thank you Dr. L and Amy!

29/02/2020

The humans were hungry so we stopped at Frisco's Pizza and John brought me some meat to the car because I was afraid to go in.

29/02/2020

Welcome home Scooter!

29/02/2020

My new mom knows how to scratch

29/02/2020

Scooter loves to have his head rubbed. Sleeping now on foster dad's lap.

29/02/2020

Last transfer completed!

29/02/2020

Waiting patiently to meet foster and adoptive parents

29/02/2020

Scooter is enjoying his overnight with Abby and Sarah (and Rhagar), Sarah is reading the story Not Quite Narwhal to Scooter. He is very interested in the story about a unicorn who is adopted by Narwhals that don't know he is a unicorn - they know he is different but they accept him anyway.
