Rainy Day Rabbitry

North Scott 4-H club had a meeting for their rabbit project Sunday evening and we were able to share with several members key knowledge to learn when doing showmanship with rabbits.

Showmanship was Riley's favorite class at the fairs and she mastered it well! Mom, Karrie, is stepping in to share key techniques and what all is important to learn and convey to a judge while Riley is away at college. It was fun to see several new youth excited to begin showing rabbits. :-)

It was also fun to see some of our Himalayans sold to one of the families who is now breeding their own litters and continuing to grow interest with other families in this beautiful and loveable breed. Pictured is our boy Max that we raised and sold to help them build their rabbitry.

Excited to see them at the local fairs this summer!

We know we have many young or new youth who are beginning to show rabbits and we want to share some valuable resources to help you grow in knowledge and confidence when showing your breed and trying showmanship.
ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association) has some great resources available when you click on this link.

You can and should purchase a Standards of Perfection book. This book tells you the ideals as well as flaws and DQ's for every recognized breed in ARBA.

You can get hold of other study guides you will see.

You can click on downloading Youth Contest Forms (red button) and there you will see the score card used for judging youth showmanship for rabbits and cavies. We highly recommend printing this out and practicing it often to gain the knowledge of what judges will be looking for in a showmanship contest.

Plus as you grow, look at all the fun you can have participating in youth events through ARBA.

We are finishing up the planning, loading, and will be on the road tomorrow morning at 5 a.m. to head to ARBA 101st Annual Rabbit Convention and Show. I am taking 18 rabbits and Mary Martinz is taking 2. There will be over 27,300 rabbits all under one roof! The amazing thing is they will all be shown in one day or maybe have a small number spill over into Monday morning. Can't wait to get there to see some old friends, meet some new friends, and of course see and meet some new bunnies! Bring on the fun and the good spirited competition! Good luck to all and safe travels to everyone coming to Louisville!

Great weekend show in Fond Du Lac! Friday night show was a Breast Cancer Benefit Show. Definitely very happy to help raise funds for this great cause. Had 12 Czech Frostys on the table. Rose Arbor's Big Czech was BOB even still finishing molting! Big Czech got a second and third look by the judge doing Best In Show too. When I talked to him later, he said it was too bad his coat wasn't finished! I'll take that! Glad he liked him. Rose Arbor's Suntica was BOS. Great comments on the juniors. We had 3 junior bucks and 3 junior does. We also showed 6 junior Mini Lops and got a 2nd place out of 8 with one of our homegrown junior bucks. Good night! Thanks to the show committee for a well-run show! Glad they raised a lot of money for Breast Cancer too.

Saturday was a double show. In Show B and Show C, Haze took Best of Breed under both judges. Haze is our granddaughter Aubrey's chosen bunny to show. It was her birthday so it was awesome that he won twice! Has enough legs when they come in from show committee to get his Grand Championship!

In Show B, Hardscrabble Hares Brusinka was Best Opposite of Breed. She too got a leg toward her Championship. In Mini Lops, our homegrown junior buck, Rainy Day's Black Knight took 1st place out of 8 really tough juniors. Knight received his first leg toward his championship! Way to go Knight!

Two Dwarf Hotot junior bucks hopping to new residence. Neither are showable, other than as a pet. The white boy has a partial blue eye and Checkers the sport could be used in a breeding program or would make a great pet. Both are ready now. PM for more details.

We had a good day at the Wisconsin State Rabbit Breeders Association State Convention Show on Saturday and the All-Breed show on Sunday. Thanks to the show committee for a well-run show both days. Rainy Day Rabbitry had a lot of first-time showing juniors on the table for both Mini Lops and Czech Frostys. We got a lot a very good comments on the young Mini Lops on Saturday. They were beat out on maturity and that is fine as they are about a month behind most of the juniors on the table. On Sunday, one of our super young bucks, Rainy Day's Jordan Love, was placed first in Junior Solid Buck class. There were 7 in the class, so he got his first leg toward his Grand Championship. Way to go Jordan!

We had a big group of Czech Frostys showing for the State Show. We had 24 in Open class with 6 exhibitors! There were also 7 or 8 rabbits in Youth too! So glad to see so many Frostys at the show!!

Our granddaughter Aubrey's Senior Buck, WWW's Haze was Best of Breed on both the State Show and at the All-Breed show on Sunday! Way to go Aubrey and Haze. Our young Senior Doe, WWW's Rain (Haze's sister) was BOS both days. We also had 6 of our Juniors on the table both days. Great comments on them too. I believe we got a leg on one of the juniors too, but there was so much going on, I didn't get which one won the jr. class with the leg. We'll have to wait for the show reports :) I asked Aubrey to get her picture with both BOB and BOS for Grandma. She was happy to!

I'll be posting some of our young Mini Lops. Some will be looking for different residences, but I haven't made any decisions yet. This is Rainy Day's Katie Ladecky. Born 5/27/24. Not even 3 months old yet. Chestnut doe. Out of our Grand Champion buck.

We are excited to have one of our Himalayans travel to the great state of Texas to show there. Congrats to Pearl and her sweet doe, Hot Dog. Yes that is her name. Riley chose it and Pearl kept it.😁❤️ We wish you much fun and hope you do great things together!

We have a repeat customer who bought 3 more of our Himalayans. Two of our babies- a doe and a buck, and a Sr. Buck who has qualified for grand champion status with ARBA. They are looking to expand the rabbit project within their 4-h club and specifically in this breed. It’s great to help get the younger ones started building their own successful Rabbitry. We can’t wait to see you showing them Bowden and other youth involved! Thank you for loving them so well Bowden. ❤️ Enjoy Tiny, Houdini, and Max. ❤️

Congratulations to Elizabeth Colwell and her great Czech Frosty Buck, Rainy Day's Body Czech. Best of Breed at Wisconsin State Fair in Youth and Reserve Best In Show at Same Show! They were also Best of Breed and Reserve in Show at Lodi Agricultural Fair Show as well. He looks fabulous! Great job! We are so proud.

Our babies are beginning to go to new homes. Wheaty was the first to leave and join her new friend Mahoney. They will be showing in 4-H together. Right now Wheaty is settling in and living her best life. ❤️ Congrats and enjoy her! She’s a beauty!

We are going to Columbia County Fair shortly. Already had good news from the Bunny Show. Riley Landsverk didn't show this year, but our Dwarf Hotots were represented. Snowball was out of our good homegrown doe, Rainy Day's Rico and out of a good homegrown buck, Rainy Day's Ice Tea! Way to go Ellie and Snowball! Best of Breed! We are so proud!

We have several show quality junior Himalayans available for sale. They are all the lilac variety. They are still shedding off their baby coat and some frosting but the lilac coloring is vibrant. They should look great for the fall ARBA shows. We will have some for sale at the Plymouth show next Sunday. Or message us to set up another appointment. First come, first serve. Mama has qualified for Grand Champion status with ARBA. We have 3 does and 2 bucks. This is a very fun breed. Great personalities.

Very good day at the Galesville Rabbit Show yesterday. Rose Arbor's Big Czech continued his winning ways with two Best of Breed wins. We had more competition, and it was great to have other breeders there. Thanks to the Friendly Rabbit Club for a well-run show with informative, friendly judges. The Mini Lops fared okay, but no big wins for them yesterday. Can't wait to get the young ones old enough to get them out. The trip home was eventful as the rains were horrendous at times. It was coming down so hard, I got soaked just getting out of the car. The buns were not impressed at all by the dash indoors! Carpet Squares came in very handy! Hope everyone is having a fun day today at the show. Didn't get pics yet so will post Big Czech without his new awards :). I'm so pleased with him. I just love this guy. He has been undefeated since the National Show. Way to go buddy! He is a very fun rabbit to show as he lets everyone see his fun personality too. I want to thank the judges for all their comments on him. Big Czech and a Blanc De Hotot were mentioned in Best in Show judging as excellent examples of the rare breeds. I love that the Frostys are being seriously looked at now for Best in Show!
