Need a simple, low-calorie enrichment for your foodie? Winter loves when I sprinkle some shredded cheese in the grass for him. A small handful will keep him sniffing for well over 10 minutes and then he's ready for a good nap.

The last few weeks, I have had the pleasure of working with mr Orville here. He is the absolute sweetest boy! He’s shy but once he warms up to you he is ALL love. He warms up fastest with the help of a buddy and would do best with another dog in the home. His shelter bestie Sylvester was adopted this week and now it’s Orville’s turn! *Sylvester and him LOVED hanging out so they have lots of pictures together*

This is helpful in checking your pups as well. Preventative is always a yes in my house but we also love dog safe bug spray for our hikes.

Because ticks can range in size from a pepper flake to a watermelon seed, it’s essential to do a thorough tick check after spending time outside. Look all over your body, especially around the following areas:
➡ Hairline
➡ Ears
➡ Waist
➡ Belly button
➡ Groin
➡ Under arms
➡ Back of knees

WESTLAND RESIDENTS: Westland is hosting their annual dog vaccination clinic! It’s this Saturday, March 23rd 10am-2pm, held at city hall. They will have vaccines, microchips, and licenses for very low costs. Make sure you bring your ID proving to be a Westland resident. Many cities hold something similar so check your city website!

Most people swear up and down their dog would never bite but even the friendliest, most tolerant pup has their limit.

RAISING DOG FRIENDLY CHILDREN
Teach children to be dog friendly before teaching dogs to be child friendly

I’m often asked - “How can I make my dog more child friendly?”

The question really should be - “How can I make my child more dog friendly?”

Children don’t come with an inborn ability to know how to treat dogs. It’s up to us to teach them.

I’m amazed that there aren’t more dog bites considering how often I see children treating dogs like stuffed toys.

If you think about it, dogs are actually amazingly tolerant and patient with people even when their attempts to communicate through their body language, that they’re really uncomfortable, are completely ignored or not understood.

As parents, it’s an important responsibility to teach our children about how to respect and behave around dogs.

Always supervise children and dogs, even if a dog seems relaxed and friendly.

Just a little morning enrichment with our “snuffle box” for breakfast. Nirvana is a true shredder and doesn’t typically eat this type of stuff. So anytime we shred paper/cardboard, the scraps go in our big box. Breakfast is sprinkled in and boom! 15-20 minutes of fun.

*activities like this are always supervised!

Thought I’d share this little piece from tonight’s enrichment game. We like to play “search” a lot. Nirvana holds a stay in her crate while I hide some of her dinner in a seperate room. Then she searches for each piece. She absolutely loves it! But sometimes she gets a little silly with how she gets to that food. 😂

*Note: I did not create this game. Many people use it for general enrichment. We also did not start with her in a seperate room! This took time, training, and practice. Please don’t start your pup on the hardest level for any new experience. ☺️
