Hollingsworth Hoppery Rabbit Rescue Rabbit rescue for the abandoned and neglected! Finding rabbits loving homes one hop at a time!

07/06/2021

Hi Hoppery Community!

This past week has been an expensive one at the Hoppery. I am thankful to have a full time job which helps to provide for the rescue but some weeks just hit a little harder and so I need to humbly ask for your help!

Sweet rescue Oreo had to have his ears flushed at the vet and was put on medication to help heal a bacterial ear infection he caught while living in the wild after being dumped, I had to fully restock our pellet, lettuce and hay supply (which as you can imagine happens quite often haha) and two bunnies (Nala and Brownie) are being spayed today in addition to several other miscellaneous costs for the rabbit room to upgrade the rabbit’s pens.

If you are willing and able to donate anything to help contribute to Nala and Brownie’s spay surgery bill (totalling $250) I’d be so grateful and no amount is too small!

Our Venmo is;

Or you can call SnipWell Spay and Neuter Clinic in Fort Mill, SC directly at 803-228-4208. My account is under Sara Holbrooks and they are the only bunnies being fixed there today!

Thank you so much for being a part of this community and for your support, it means so much to me and to the bunnies! 💗

Handsome boy Elvis was adopted to his forever home a couple of weeks ago after being so patient, I’m so thankful he has such a wonderful family to love him that sees how sweet and gentle he is!

Elvis was a former breeder rabbit who was kept outside in a tiny wire cage, he now lives in a rabbit room with plenty of space to run and play and is in the process of being bonded to his precious girlfriend Ruby (pictured below during their first meeting) which is going really well! 💗

Have a happy life E! 💙

Hi everyone! I’m excited to introduce you all to two very special bunnies who have been through a lot together and are now available for adoption. 💗

Maggie (L) & Lawrence (R) are two closely bonded, recently spayed female rabbits. I am unsure of their exact breed and age, but I would estimate they are New Zealand mixes who are approximately 2-3 years old.

Maggie & Lawrence came from a hoarding case in SC many of you may be familiar with. I was so glad to have a space to help BBSC when that situation arose and their wonderful organization has been such a help with their medical care!

They will require a very special adoptive family who is understanding of their shy nature. They do not appear to have been socialized much if any with people, and can be nervous though they show no signs of aggression whatsoever!

They have already blossomed so much at the Hoppery and no longer seem afraid when my husband or I enter the room or interact with them from afar. They will allow pets occasionally but are not quite there yet-but are becoming more comfortable by the day!

They are beautiful, gentle and so fun to watch interact together, they love each other so much and we adore them! Lettuce time is their absolute favorite and they also love treats and chewing on sticks haha.

I know it may be harder to find them the perfect home as they cannot be separated but I’m sure there’s the perfect, patient family out there for them somewhere! In the meantime they have a safe home at the Hoppery. ❤️

Please DM me for more information and to receive an adoption application if interested, thank you so much!

You may remember the tiny bunny found by a busy road in Kannapolis I first shared when I brought him to the Hoppery a couple months ago, well here’s handsome and gentle Mellow (or Marshmallow) all grown up, neutered and officially available for adoption! 💙

Mellow is such a good boy. He’s gentle and loving and enjoys attention from people and begging for treats! He loves to run through his tunnel but is also very chill and loves to nap which is adorable. He’s been through a journey and I can’t wait for him to find his forever family of his own to give him all the love he deserves!

Our best guess is that he’s about 6 months old and a New Zealand REW but we are not positive. He is not perfectly litter box trained but very close-he does urinate in his box!

Please message me if interested in this handsome boy and I’ll be happy to answer any questions, arrange a FaceTime “meet and greet” if you’d like and email an adoption application! Thank you! 🐇

Brownie’s face this morning when she found out she has been ADOPTED!! 🥳

I’m so excited for this sweet girl who will be able to free roam 24/7 and have Netherland Dwarf bunny siblings to play with. ❤️

She will also be the 9th bunny adopted from the Hoppery Rabbit Rescue since the beginning in February! I’m so grateful for the wonderful people and adopters and of course sweet bunnies I’ve met throughout this journey so far!

Everyone meet sweet and feisty Nala who is available for adoption! ✨

Nala is a beautiful approximately one year old Lionhead mix who adores people and attention (and head scratches and nose rubs!) but who also has a feisty personality which makes her even more entertaining! 💗

Nala was found by a wonderful family as a stray on the side of the road in Salisbury. She is very loving and adores spending time with people and will make an incredible bunny for the right (preferably rabbit experienced) family! She also loves to run and play!

Nala will require a special adoptive family who will allow her to either free roam or have a bunny room as she is the only bunny I’ve worked with so far who cannot be housed inside of an exercise pen (unless the top is securely covered.) She is an AMAZING climber and escape artist, and has climbed over every pen I have (even one that’s very very tall!) She is so determined that she would climb out, I’d pick her up and place her back in her pen and she’d promptly climb right back out again and hop back to the same spot just to prove she could. 😂

Nala will be spayed on June 7th and will be available for adoption once fully recovered! Please send me a message if interested and I can email an application! Thank you! 🐰

Thank you all so much for your continued support and I’ll be sharing some more adoptable bunnies this week!!

***ADOPTED!! 🥳🥳

Introducing sweet Brownie! She is an adorable 11 month old Netherland Dwarf from a home where she was not able to be out of her cage as much as needed- Brownie is now looking for a home that will allow her to at least have a massive exercise pen and/or a bunny room to free roam in! She has so much energy and is so fun to watch run in circles and hop and play. ❤️

She loves people and is very friendly, she likes attention and is so curious! Brownie also likes to be held and cuddle against your neck-as long as she’s had plenty of time to exercise first! She will hop over and sit on her back legs to say hello and come to your lap to be petted! She also looks like a little chipmunk when she washes her face. 😍

Brownie is scheduled to be spayed on June 7th and will be available for adoption once fully healed. If interested in adopting her please DM with your email address and I will be happy to send an application and answer any further questions you may have about her! Thank you so much!

Hi everyone! I apologize for my lack of updates and adoptable rabbit posts this week-this has been my busiest week yet in rescue so I have a whole lot to share with you! ❤️

Five new rabbits were brought to the Hoppery this week;
-a young Californian breed who was found outside in someone’s yard in Kannapolis who I’ve been nursing back to health since Tuesday
-a Lionhead who had been dumped near a road in Salisbury who was found by wonderful people
-a precious and loving owner surrender from Raleigh who needed a new home and who can do tricks!
-two bonded harlequin larger breed bunnies who I picked up yesterday to help with a rabbit hoarding situation, they are still so nervous but are becoming more comfortable and loving all of the space and care at the Hoppery!

I cannot wait to introduce them to you individually this upcoming week! ☺️

Marshmallow was also neutered this week and is doing so well and will be officially available for adoption really soon once fully healed! 💙

****TW: Loss of a Bunny 💔 ****

This week also had a massive low as I experienced my first loss of a rescue which has been both incredibly difficult and heartbreaking. I had precious Smokey for almost two weeks. She came to the Hoppery very overweight as a result of not having space to exercise. I had not yet cleared her to be adoptable due to her condition and I noticed Thursday night that she was not acting like herself-after syringe feeding her for hours she had a sudden and violent seizure and passed away in my arms. I know there was nothing else I could have done to save her but I’ll miss her so much and I wanted to be sure to share this sweet soul with you all.

Smokey was a very loving bunny who craved attention and pets and would let you just carry her around the house and love on her. She greeted me every time I entered the rabbit room as she was the first one by the door and she’s the first rabbit I’ve ever worked with that would lick me! She was thankful and so happy to be at the Hoppery with her comfy cactus bed and I’m so thankful I got to know her and give her a wonderful two weeks and that she passed knowing she was not alone and so loved. She’ll never be forgotten and will be a further motivation for what I do and to help as many as I can. Rest In Peace sweet Smokey. ❤️

****Update: I’m SO excited to share that sweet E is now adoption pending! ☺️

Here is the Hoppery’s adoptable gentle giant Elvis, or as I call him E! 💙

He is a handsome New Zealand whose approximately a year old and has been neutered! He is a large bunny weighing right at 11 pounds and is the sweetest bunny you could ever meet!

E was rescued from a meat/breeder farm outdoor cage environment and is truly the definition of a gentle giant-he has never shown a single sign of aggression. He loves attention and simply having people near him. He also loves scratches and will bump you with his head for more! He does the cutest binkies which are even better with his larger size! E is so happy having space to run and play and will require at least a large pen with some free roam time daily!

He is very trustworthy and can be left out alone in the bunny room to play and hop without destroying anything! He gets along well with our dog and doesn’t seem bothered at all by her though she is also gentle. He also seems to like the company of other rabbits and gets along well with everyone in the bunny room!

E does have a smaller tail as a result of boredom/anxiety from his prior living environment in a tiny cage-I’m excited to say his tail is growing back but even if it never returns to normal it just makes him more special! 💙

E will need a special adopter who is understanding of his slow progress with litter box training. He is getting better since being fixed but he can still be very messy! He just hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it yet. Other than that he is the perfect boy and I’m sure being the only bunny with personalized attention will help him even more!

If interested in this special, special boy please send me a DM for an application! Thank you so much! ☺️

I’d first like to say a massive thank you to Bunny Brigade SC, Inc. for the incredibly kind welcome and to their community that has been so supportive of my growing rescue! I am so grateful you all are here and thank you so much for following along! I’m excited to be able to rescue more rabbits together. ❤️

This has also been a wonderful weekend for the Hoppery Rabbit Rescue as I celebrated two more adoptions of bunnies to wonderful homes!! Mary Hoppins & Violet both went home with wonderful families yesterday and it makes my heart so happy to hear how they’re thriving and so loved already! ☺️

Mary Hoppins was picked up by a wonderful person who saw someone giving away baby bunnies out of a cardboard box in Charlotte and Violet was a breeder rabbit for years before being given to my rescue to find a wonderful home to spend the rest of her life as a beloved pet. 💜

I’m really excited and proud to officially introduce you to the finalized Hoppery Rabbit Rescue room! 🐰❤️

I’ve put a lot of time into creating a happy, loving and fun temporary home for my rescues and a welcoming space that adopters can enjoy also! I now have 6 pens which doubles the amount of bunnies I can help at a time. ☺️

I’m also so happy to now have my adopted rabbit picture wall with portraits of sweet Stormy and Winnie and room for all of the adopted rabbits to come. ❤️

Officially introducing Mork (grey)💙 & Mindy (tan)💗

These sweethearts are a bonded pair of sibling Holland Lops estimated to be around 2 or 3 years old who were rescued from a tiny cage environment with owners who no longer wanted them. They are already fixed and litter box trained-and very sweet and soft!

These two enjoy cuddling and playing and grooming each other, it’s truly precious to watch them interact together and they have the funniest expressions! They must be adopted to a home that will keep them in at least a large exercise pen (no small cage/hutch environments.)

They are friendly but a little shy at first, and do not tolerate being held but enjoy being petted and attention. They love to eat treats. They enjoy when you sent calmly in the pen with them and hopping up to say hello! Since they are bonded they must be adopted together.❤️

Please DM the Hoppery if you have any questions or may be interested in providing them a loving home! ☺️

Thelma here with an important update! 🐾

I wanted to let you know that my rescue mom says I’m up for adoption again. My almost new family couldn’t take me like planned because of allergies which we totally understand-so I’m still available and looking for my forever home and I know they’re out there somewhere waiting on me!

So here’s a little about me;

I’m a one year old 3/4 New Zealand Red and 1/4 Flemish Giant mix. I was rescued from an outdoor meat/breeding farm and a tiny wire cage and I love being at the Hoppery!

I’m fixed now and recovered well from my surgery. I am getting better at using my litter box now but rescue mom says I still don’t have it quite down. 😂

I LOVE attention and being petted and spending time with people. I like to nuzzle and bump with my nose for pets. I don’t love being picked up but once I am I like being held and snuggled! I get the zoomies and love to sprint so my new home has to give me a lot of space to run and play!

I also like my daily salads and treats and resting in my big fluffy dog bed.❤️

So far I have not enjoyed being around other rabbits, but now that I’m fixed that could change! I do get along well with dogs who are gentle! ☺️

Please let my rescue mom know if you’re interesting in meeting or adopting me! 💗

Meet the Hoppery’s newest rescue-precious Marshmallow.❤️

Marshmallow was found hopping alongside a busy road in Kannapolis in the middle of nowhere (she was most likely dumped in the woods).

A wonderful person captured her and I’m so thankful this little bunny is no longer fending for herself. She LOVES people and our puppy, is so curious, playful and enjoys being petted. I don’t know for sure yet but I feel she is pretty young.

I’ll share more about her as I get to know her better, but for now please join me in welcoming her to the Hoppery Rescue! ☺️

Introducing sweet Annie who I picked up this morning in Asheville. 💗

Annie is a broken chestnut New Zealand rabbit whose around 2 years old and has been kept on a farm for meat/breeding like all of my rescues. She’s seriously a sweetheart who allows you to pet and hold her and is so beautiful!

She is scheduled to be spayed in early May and will then be officially available for adoption but feel free to inquire about her sooner if interested, I’ll keep you posted on her personality as she settles in more at the Hoppery! ☺️

**Also I’ve been asked about a way to help with the costs involved with the upkeep and spay/neuter bills of the bunnies so I’ve created a Venmo account and all proceeds will benefit the rabbits in my care. If you’d like to make a donation of any size the rescue Venmo handle is -thank you so much! ❤️

Officially introducing handsome Elvis💙

He is a 10 month old New Zealand rescued from a meat/breeding farm and the definition of a gentle giant. Elvis is very sweet, he loves to nudge and nuzzle you for attention and to say hello. He’s fascinated with toys and ADORES mealtime-he will beg like a puppy when it’s time to eat. 😂

Elvis was kept in a smaller outside cage environment and chewed the fur off his tail out of boredom and possibly anxiety (you can see it’s not fluffy like it should be.)

Since being at the Hoppery Rescue this sweet boy has been so calm and relaxed, he loves to stretch out and nap and I haven’t seen him chewing at his tail even once! It should grow back in time, but if not it just makes him even more special. 💙

He has a neuter appointment scheduled for April 9th and after recovery will be available for adoption, but if interested feel free to message me sooner and I can keep you updated on him and/or arrange a meet and greet!

I am SO excited to introduce to you the 3 bunnies I rescued this weekend! 💗 Saturday I drove to West Jefferson and Sunday to Mt. Airy to pickup these sweet bunnies who have been living outside and bred for meat and babies.

🐰 First is Thelma Lou-fittingly named since she was picked up in Mt. Airy! She’s a 10 month old New Zealand red who is sweet and full of energy!

🐰 Second is Winter-she was picked up with snow on the ground in the mountains! She’s a 5/6 year old American Chinchilla whose so sweet and a little shy, and a big fan of toys already!

🐰 Third is Storm-she was picked up with Winter and is very sweet, confident and a big fan of treats! She is also an American Chinchilla and 5/6 years old.

They will be available for adoption soon and more details and pictures will be shared soon as well! Thank you all for your support! ❤️

I am beyond thrilled to share with you the first three Hollingsworth Hoppery rescues I will be picking up next weekend💙

these sweethearts are American Chinchilla rabbits (no relation to a Chinchilla-the name is based off of the softness and coloring of the fur!)

this particular breed of rabbit is considered a “meat rabbit” traditionally bred by farmers for meat and fur because of their larger size and beautiful coat.

Meat rabbits make just as great pets as more commonly known domestic rabbit breeds, and are often even sweeter and more used to being held due generations of being handled by farmers!

they are now being retired from breeding and I’m so excited to give them a chance at loving forever homes as pets which they so deserve☺️

the Hoppery is making a lot of progress!! I can’t wait to show you the final product once all of the work is finished!! 🤗 massive thanks to my husband and my brother for all of their help with building and moving!! 💙

I personally believe that rabbits should be kept indoors if possible-I feel it’s safer and a better quality of life in most situations-unfortunately I don’t currently have the space to house my rescue indoors or the finances to build a climate controlled facility-someday that’s the goal!!)

so for now my Hoppery will be housed outside and I will specifically be rescuing rabbits who have already been living outdoors in environments that are not so great, and rest assured the Hoppery is going to be a rabbit paradise and they will be so loved before adopted to forever homes! 🐰❤️

10/01/2021

I have wanted to start a rabbit rescue for such a long time, if you know me you know I love animals and I have a special fondness for rabbits!

Rabbits are the third most common pet in America after cats and dogs, which means they are also the third most common pet abandoned at shelters or set free as strays. There aren’t as many rabbit rescues as there are for cats and dogs either-which is one of the reasons why I feel led to create one!

My rescue for now is going to be very small, I will only be able to house about 5 rabbits maximum and more likely 2-3 at a time. Eventually I hope to grow this further and open a larger facility but for now you have to start somewhere! With every rabbit adopted into a loving home though I’ll be able to rescue another! 🤗

I do not yet have my first rescue bunnies, but am on the lookout and am working to build my small facility at our house-building actually started this week!! I will keep you all posted on the progress and I hope to have my first rescues here within at least a month to a month and a half if not sooner! ☺️

With that being said-if you hear of a rabbit that has been abandoned or needs help-please reach out through DM!

Thank you so much for being along for the journey and for your support! ❤️🐰
