Let’s talk about matting.

I have seen an increasing number of matted dogs recently.

Grooming any dog is always welfare over vanity, always!

So what causes matting?

There are many reasons. The most common is lack of brushing at home.

Is matting painful?

Even mild matting can cause some pain, irritation and can cut of blood supply to the area.

Can matting be brushed out?

Occasionally, and it is very occasional small mats can. However, generally the safest and kindest way to remove matting is to clip/shave it off.

Whilst I appreciate people like breed standard grooms, sometimes this is not possible.

After one groom recently I had two blunt blades and a blunt pair of scissors.

Blades are £8 each to have sharpened and Scissors £15 a pair.

That cost me £31, without my time and overheads.

I will always send you pictures of any matting I find, that way you know which areas you need to focus on brushing at home.

I hate moaning, but time is precious.

Thank you to my lovely owners that block book on a regular basis to ensure the above never happens.

If you do not book on a regular schedule, I cannot guarantee I can accomodate you, but I will try.

Going forward from today any dog found needing a clip off due to matting will incur an extra £20 charge.
